What do you get when you gather local bloggers in a beautiful location and serve fabulous cocktails and yummy ice cream? A Rutledge Social event! It was a lovely way to spend a Saturday afternoon, laughing with fellow creatives over delicious treats from Flute Bar Service and Ye Ole Fashioned Ice Cream & Sandwich Shop. Which if you’ll remember, my husband owns and was so gracious to provide the ice cream (hence the cutsie me holding a bowl of ice cream pic)! There was lots of swooning to be done at Ro Sham Beaux, where the event was held, as there is a gorgeous chandelier or trendy velvet sofa in every corner. Lots of time was also spent in the photo booth, complete with chalkboards to write our social media handle, and Catherine Ann Photography behind the lens. It was a beautiful day spent with beautiful people!!

I was BEYOND honored to have been asked to be a panelist for the Teen Vogue Back to School Saturday at the College of Charleston a couple of weekends ago! I’ve been so blessed to meet some truly fabulous ladies lately and Christine Pearson, who contacted me about the event, is certainly one of them! The panel consisted of fellow bloggers, Tara Langdale of Northern Lights-Southern Belles, Chloe Fusselman of Topknots and Polkadots and Taylor Brobisky of Holy City in Heels and myself. We spoke a bit about our blogs and ourselves and then opened the floor to questions about all things fashion from the CofC sorority girls! In addition to being on cloud nine about participating in a Teen VOGUE event, we also had a total blast!! You can read ALL about the #BTSS and see even more photos here on the Carolina STYLE page!

Wine, Dine and Design

When I was asked by my good friend, Jeanne Everett, to attend the Wine, Dine and Design event where she would be showing her original designs from her line Corinne and Molly, it was a no brainer. The charity event was held in Columbia and was to benefit the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind. It showcased local lines, from established brands such as Southern Tide to emerging designers like Jeanne of Corinne and Molly. The ambiance was beautiful with candlelit tables lining the runways. The Corinne and Molly collection was vibrant with rich jewel tones of sapphire green and cobalt blue. Jeanne also used a lot of metallic, from a sassy silver top to a feminine gold polka dot matching set. Her show and the event itself were a huge success! I can’t wait to see more from Jeanne with Corinne and Molly! Head here in case you missed my Insta takeover of her account- I had a blast and got some great shots of not only the show but also behind the scenes!

Dallas Trip

Last, but not least, two weekends ago my mom and stepdad, husband and I went to Dallas, Texas celebrating my stepdad’s 50th Birthday! Noooo I didn’t bring home Ebola, but we did have a wonderful time spent over family and football! Because let’s face it, as much as I adore all of this fashion stuff, family is my one true love. In fact, I love them SO much that I didn’t even drag anyone to do any shopping the whole weekend! And that’s tough because Dallas has some fabulous shopping. Okay, so we did do some window-shopping in Highland Park Village last night {drool} but that really was it. Thank goodness all of the stores were closed because this adorable area of town provides you with stores like Chanel, Louboutin, Tom Ford and the likes. It is a can’t miss and my favorite restaurant in Dallas,Patrizios, also happens to be there. (we are way spoiled by our food in Charleston, because the Dallas restaurants do not impress me, I just love the ambiance at this little spot though) However, my main favorite spot when going to the Big D is Billy Bob’s AKA the world’s largest honkey tonk. It lives up to its title by boasting an indoor LIVE bull riding arena, concert stage, restaurant and two huge dance floors to get your two stepping on! It’s exactly how you would imagine a night in Texas! It was another family vacation weekend for the books and I certainly think my stepdad would agree the perfect way to spend his last weekend being 49!

OH and I guess I also can’t forget the fact that we’ve been to every home game this Clemson football season. Yes, my life has been ruled by football lately and Yes, I love my husband very much.

If you love hearing about all of my adventures and would like to be along for the ride as they happen, be sure to follow me on Instagram & Twitter!!!

Keeping it Casual

Let me begin by saying, i’ve never been a military inspired fashion kinda gal, until I met this jacket. It’s even opened my eyes to the point where I actually purchased a pair of CAMO pants yesterday!! My husband is thrilled because he’s been trying to get me on board with this for years. This jacket has quickly become my most worn jacket of the season. It is so easy to throw on with practically anything and is just so fall. However, my favorite thing to wear it with is black and white stripes. I have several tops like this, but this is my only tank, which is perfect for this back and forth 80 to 60 degrees weather. I then threw on a pair of dark denim skinnies, rolled at the bottom of course. I could have worn my converse or flip flops with this, but since the outfit was already SO casual I went for my suede booties with a bit of a heel. These keep the look a bit more polished {read: not so homeless}. To accessorize I wore my everyday bangles and LV bag. This is the best outfit for running around doing errands and being comfy, but you won’t be afraid to run into someone you know! Can’t wait to share my camo pants with y’all!! Have an amazing weekend everyone!!

One Last Romp

Happy official first day of fall everyone!!! Thanks to this rainy weather, the temperatures are actually feeling more like fall too! Dare I say the last chance to wear a shorts romper is past us? This pretty little floral number is the perfect way to close out summer! The navy color and neutral floral hues are just right for fall, while the shorts are still keeping you cool in the lingering summer heat. If I were wearing this in August I would have paired it with a pair of brown wedges, but since we’re nearing the end of September I decided to go with these suede fringe booties. I love how neutral they are but still add a burst of boho style with the fringe on the back! I will definitely be getting my wear out of these all year round with leggings and a sweater on lazy days in the cool weather and festival style cut offs and crop tops in the summer. With a low cut neckline like this, I prefer to keep the chest bare. I just think it’s so pretty to show that skin, but not too much. I accessorized fairly simply with a pair of gold earrings and my everyday gold midi rings. Another way to style this romper would be a pair of knee high boots in the same color with a chunky sweater and floppy hat. This option would be perfect if you’re in an area that actually IS chilly in September (AKA not Charleston). HAPPY FALL Y’ALL!!

Rainy Day Wear

So far, so good with the weather today (knock on wood) but the past couple of days have been nasty ones here in Charleston! It’s not looking too good for the rest of the week either. But, a rainy day is not a good excuse for a lazy day look OR a good reason to ruin a nice pair of shoes or leather bag. So, what’s the compromise here? I’ve picked three outfits with umbrellas, weather-proof shoes, jackets and vegan leather purses {that won’t get ruined after a few water drops plus they’re animal friendly}. These looks are sure to keep you stylish AND dry in these crazy southern downpours!

Post Labor Day Errand Day

I hope everyone had a wonderful unofficial last weekend of summer!! Mine was spent with amazing family and friends on the beach and in the boat! Even though it was full of fun and no work, I’m still exhausted. I ate lots of unhealthy goodies, got too much sun and probably drank one too many margaritas. I am happy to get back on track this week, but still feeling like I need to recover from the weekend. This is when a good lazy, but busy day outfit comes into play. My go-to comfort style is definitely boho. Most of the pieces are loose and comfortable, but still look somewhat put together and stylish. I found this Free People blouse at Marshall’s {currently on sale for even less at Revolve}  and knew that it would be a staple in my lazy day wardrobe. Since it’s still obviously really hot out, I wore this with a pair of cut off denim shorts. To really make this public acceptable, I wore a pair of block heel gladiator sandals rather than flip-flops. They’re still really comfortable, but makes it look a little more intentional. I wore all of my everyday accessories- speedy with a strap, bangles and aviators. This look is perfect for a day when you have some running around to do, but still want to be comfortable and relaxed. The blouse can also transition to fall nicely by pairing it with distressed skinnies and a pair of booties.

Today I decided to spice things up and have some midweek FUN and that’s what this get up is all about!! This is the perfect look for a girl’s night out on the town or for me, a fun fashion event. I’ve been really into the whole matching set look for several months now, and this is the same idea but jazzed up a bit! I fell in love with this top a while ago, but didn’t have anything in my closet to pair it with (my husband would beg to differ). When I saw the skirt I just knew it would compliment it perfectly! The caged sleeves on the top have been a super hot trend and take the crop top look from boring to bold. The graphic print on the skirt is gorgeous and adds a youthful, vibrant vibe to the whole outfit. The skirt can easily go from summer to winter by throwing on tights, booties and a black crop top sweater. You could also make this work environment friendly by trading the crop top for a blazer and stilettos for a nice pair of pumps or flats. This skirt is so versatile and such a fun statement piece to have in your closet!! Since the skirt is so busy, I did something I rarely do and matched my shoes to my top. I also kept accessories to a minimum with a fun bangle that had complimenting colors. I’ve recently been really into ponytails- not sure if it’s a new trend or if my hair is just driving me crazy. But, either way they can look super chic and this one does the trick for this outfit! Keeping my hair down would’ve taken away from the caged sleeves and not looked as polished. This is such a fun outfit to wear and will make anyone feel sassy and confident!!

Pearls and scallops, that’s what southern girls are made of! Or at least what this outfit is made of. I about died when I found this adorable scallop edged neon tank, and that was before I even got it home and saw the open back! The two together are the perfect combination of sweet and sassy. In this humid, summer heat in Charleston it gives you just the right amount of breeze without being too revealing. Since it is a very open shirt, I did a rare thing for me and wore a bandeau underneath. I wasn’t a huge fan of this idea at first, but I think the pop of white looks perfect with the white pants. For my accessories I wanted to use navy blue as an accent color. I LOVE navy and neon together! There is just something about such a traditional and wild color that really compliment each other. So, I wore my favorite chandelier earrings and a cute clutch with gold detail. I also wore my pearl bangle, well, because pearls and scalloping together are a no brainer! The brown wedges I wore are so perfect because they look great and a little snazzier than typical sandals, but they are SO comfortable!! These are the wedges you want to have if you’re wearing this outfit all day! I also have a dressier brown sandal that is a stiletto heel that I would wear if I were just wearing this for a few hours. Either way, this outfit is perfect for a weeknight outing or date night. It’s also easily worn during the day because of all the bright colors.

Do you have the Monday Blues today? With the way the weather is here in Charleston, it’s hard not to. Here’s a fun colorful dress, in one of my favorite little hidden parks, shot by the amazing Susan Lloyd Photography, that is sure to cheer up your work day! This dress is one of the VERY few that I’ve had for years and will still continue to wear. Usually, I’ll wear a dress like this a couple of times and then consign it, but this baby is with me for the long haul. I’ve dressed it up with nice heels, worn it casually with a pair of Jacks, and recently I’ve been digging this in-between style by pairing it with wedges. Now, these wedges are not just a pair of plain brown shoes. With the bronze straps and the flashy gold studs on the cork heel, these are a statement shoe!! They are so much fun to wear and bring some sass and attitude to any outfit!! I love wearing them with dresses to really show them off, but they also look great with a pair of super flared jeans and a boho top. Despite my stripping of the shoes at the end of the shoot, these are actually very comfortable, especially compared to stilettos for a night out! This dress is color blocked with the orange and pink, and I could have easily accessorized with gold or orange jewelry, but that would be boring! I LOVE these aqua colored hoops with this dress! The color really pops and I just love the style of the earring. These also look great with black. This outfit is very versatile and perfect for a wedding, date night or girls’ night out on the town!

REAL vs STEAL- shoe edition

For a little treat on this rainy Friday evening, I wanted to share with y’all my first REAL vs STEAL! My favorite thing to shop for in the fashion world is shoes, so I thought that would be a great place to start. Dress from the shoes up- that’s what they say, right?! If you’re like me, you love to keep up with the latest high fashion trends and see what all of the big designer’s are coming out with and the celebrities are wearing. But, sometimes their prices are just NOT easy on a girls’ wallet! The great thing is you can find similar styles for a mere fraction of the cost!! No, I’m not talking about those fake Louis Vuitton bags you bought on your 8th grade trip (totally guilty). These aren’t “fakes” or “replicas” they’re just budget friendly versions of what is hot right now!

1. Valentino Rockstuds- Okay, so I totally have a pair of these and I absolutely LOVE them!! But, that was also before seeing these strikingly similar pair from Tobi (ps- if you’ve never heard of Tobi, you must check it out. you.will.die.). These are the perfect neutral heel to have in your closet. They’re super practical, but the studs also make them a bit edgy. They can be worn to dress up jeans and a tank or to add a bit of rock n roll to an otherwise girly dress. With the $58 version, you also won’t be worried about messing them up on a night out!

2. Chanel Espadrilles- I’m currently OBSESSED with Espadrilles, especially these Chanel beauties. But, spending over $500 on a pair of casual shoes is kind of insane, especially since they’re white linen and I would probably dirty them the first time I wore them. These Kendall & Kylie for Madden Girl’s are a great alternative. Not only are they like a tenth of the price, but the synthetic leather material will definitely hold up better through wear and tear. The black and white is still a timelessly classic look!

3. Birkenstock Arizonas- So, Birkenstocks may not exactly be outrageously priced. But, they have been going in and out of style my entire life, most of that time spent out. I never think it’s a great idea to spend a ton of cash on a trendy item, especially when there is another option! These Sam & Libby for Target sandals are almost identical to Birks, BUT they also have gold studs!! I mean seriously, you had me at gold. Priced originally at $29.99 they’re currently on sale for $22.49, so when they go out of style again in a few months, you won’t be hating yourself for spending over a hundred bucks. Plus, if you’re like me and have the Target Red card you also save another 5%!! Yes, that’s totally what I tell myself every time I walk out of Target after spending $300 on bathing suits, office supplies and dog toys- “at least I saved 5%”

I would LOVE to hear what y’all think of my REAL vs STEAL post and if YOU have any items you’re looking for a less expensive alternative to!! Everyone have a happy and safe weekend!! XOXO

Style for a Cause

Have you noticed my new accessory in today’s post (and no, not my new Céline bag either)?! OKAY so maybe my favorite best friend, I mean iPhone, isn’t new. But, her pretty flamingo case courtesy of Kidogo Kidogo is!! How CUTE {not in a Lilly Pulitzer kind of way} is this case for summer? Not only is it keeping my phone’s style fresh, but it is a “case that cares.” For every two cases sold on the Kidogo Kidogo website, a woman in Tanzania will receive a cell phone, a sim card and credit to be able to start using her new phone. Take a moment and consider your life without your cell phone, not without Snapchat and Instagram, but without the ability to communicate with other people-unfathomable, right? Now, imagine trying to run a business like that. Kidogo Kidogo has provided phones that assist women with their businesses and maintain their livelihood. Many of these women are elderly or have many mouths to feed at home. This company was started by Kim and Kristen Waeber, two young sisters, who after traveling all throughout the world recognized this great need and felt called to do something about it. Guess what? We don’t have to start a huge company to do our part (however, if my post moves you enough to do so, by all means). Face it, you’re going to buy another cell phone case in the next few months anyways, why not help another woman in need while you’re at it?! There are several more designs (all created by a Tanzanian artist) available, with one sure to fit your taste! Share this with your friends and let’s spread the word about Kidogo Kidogo!! Keep reading for more on my outfit!

DSC_0616Okay, so after a full holiday weekend in VEGAS, I desperately needed some comfy casual outfit days. BUT, I also had some meetings and errands to run so I couldn’t make it a “work out clothes” day. This outfit is the perfect in between! I have been DYING to wear this new Equiptment top (that I got half off at II Brunettes). It is absolutely gorgeous, but also effortless. It could easily be dressed up with a pair of white skinnies, pumps and some flashy jewelry. Obviously, I chose to dress it down with a little half tuck action and these distressed boyfriend shorts. They are so so comfortable and look great on any shape or size! These shoes are one of my favorites in my closet. They are super comfy, but also give you a little wedge, which is great when wearing shorts (especially if you’re self conscious about your legs like I am). I then carried my new everyday bag and princess of the house>>my birthday Céline luggage bag!!! I’m only mildly obsessed!! OH and there’s a look alike linked below (AND it’s on sale). I couldn’t get a bag AND sunnies, so I opted for these {$12} Céline look a likes! To keep the effortlessly casual look going, I kept the accessories to a bare minimum, wearing only my go-to midi rings. There you have it, a perfect “I don’t want to be dressed, but I have to be” look!!
