CHSFW 2015: Day 3 Outfit

It never fails that at least one night of Charleston Fashion Week, it’s got to be rainy and gross! But, just because you’re walking around below sea level in dirty muck doesn’t mean that you can get away with wearing something practical! Everyone still brings their best fashion game to the table, even on a rainy evening. Fortunately, the downpour wasn’t too crazy and actually made for some super cool street shots that are perfect for this urban chic look.

Lately, I’ve been really into the midi length style skirts. I think it’s the older I get, the more conservative I get, so these are what I’m truly comfortable in. I could never go out in public in some of the short and tight skirts I used to wear! {here’s looking at you Herve Leger dresses} I feel so much classier and confident in pieces that are less revealing- that’s not to say I don’t love a little plunging neckline or super low back every once in a while, but there’s a time and place for everything! This skirt by Milly courtesy of Finicky Filly was perfect for fashion week! The colorful print makes it a stand out piece and the meshy style material is super on trend. The crop top, also Milly courtesy of Finicky Filly, is anything but basic with unique cutouts that show just the right amount of skin.

I loved accessorizing this look with fun jewelry courtesy of Moon and Lola! The gold chain necklace goes perfectly with the city chic look I was going for, and really could go with just about anything. I kept my earrings simple, but interesting, with a little gold and rhinestone stud in the shape of what I consider to be a super hero “pow” sign. Hope that makes total sense to someone other than me! The real highlight of my accessories though, was the hot pink Melrose ring that I wore! I’m obsessed with all of the matte ball jewelry at Moon and Lola! They’ve got the 360 studs in this style too- love! It makes such a statement, but without being too overpowering.

With the nasty weather and mucky Marion Square, I didn’t have too many options when it came to shoes. So, my simple black Stuart Weitzman’s, that aren’t easily ruined, did the trick! These have really been one of the best purchases- which you’ll see after I wear them the next 3 nights to CHSFW! I didn’t mean to be a shoe repeater, but they’re just so versatile and chic with everything! For my bag, I kept that simple as well with my black YSL mini. This was such a great look for Charleston Fashion Week, or any other stylish event you might be attending! Even though I was too exhausted to make it to any of the after parties each night, it would also make a great sassy getup for a girl’s night out!

I’m SO excited to share with y’all one of my most favorite looks to date!! This is the outfit I wore for the second night of Charleston Fashion Week. In typical Charleston fashion, the weather was 85 on Tuesday and 55 on Wednesday, so this was perfect to withstand the cooler temps! This AMAZING romper I’m wearing is Annie Griffin Collection, courtesy of Finicky Filly. I’m obsessed with the print and colors!! This style of romper is a great way to transition to spring on those chilly nights.

APD_3386-XL APD_3397-X2

Considering my feet were killing me from wearing heels the entire day before and the weather, I paired this up with my Sam Edelman thigh high boots. (that I scored for $60 at Saks Off 5th) The thigh high and shorts combo is a huge trend for spring and after seeing Vanessa Hudgens rock it, I knew I had to try; and what better time than CHSFW?! I got a few crazy stares when I told people I was going to wear thigh highs and a romper, but I got a ton of compliments!! Plus, I loved the look and that’s all that really matters, right?APD_3404-XL APD_340-XL

To throw in a little pattern play, because I loveee me some pattern play, I carried my Clare V. leopard print clutch. These patterns are seriously HEAVEN together!! Sorry if I’m gloating guys, but I just really was happy with this get up!!

I accessorized with a fabulous gold chain statement necklace courtesy of Moon and Lola. This is a must have necklace for any woman and any style! You can literally put it on with just about anything and it just takes your whole outfit up a notch! I kept the rest of my jewelry simple with Moon and Lola dainty midi rings and these understated, but super cool, earrings. I actually wish I could wear this outfit everyday of my life!! I’m not sure how i’ll top this one, but keep reading all week to see more of my looks from Charleston Fashion Week!!

Okay guys, so it’s looking like I’m not going to get my full runway review in until tomorrow, but I’m dying to share last night’s look with y’all!! I wore this adorable pleated BCBG dress courtesy of one of my absolute favs, Trés Carmen Boutique, who also sent this look down the runway last night. The weather in Charleston was beautiful last night, actually it was almost to the point of hot and muggy, so this style was perfect for the temps. I stayed cool and comfortable all night, plus pinch proof because after all, it was St. Patrick’s Day!

APD_3017APD_3011APD_3034

Since this dress had a good bit of color going on, I kept my bag and shoes to a neutral shade with my go-to GiGi (also from Trés Carmen) and my favorite new Dolce Vita heels from StyleXchange. The color of both the shoes and bag is so beautiful and so perfect to go with all of your bright spring colors!

Thanks to the ridiculously cool girls at Theodosia, I was set up with some awesome jewelry for the week!! I love how the color from the long stranded necklace pulls out that sea foamy color in the dress. I layered that up with their dainty, but beautiful, rose cut diamond necklace. It’s amazing what a difference a little dainty layering can do for an outfit!! Then, I kept the earrings simple with these STUNNING opal studs!! Currently begging the hubby to let me keep these babays!! Pair that with my daintily layered Moon and Lola midi rings and my accessories were complete! I loved that this gave off a bit of a boho vibe so that I was able to wear my new rounded frame Ray Bans. They’re kinda my fav ever!

Can’t wait to share with y’all my full runway review tomorrow!! That will be posted early in the a.m. with my outfit post following shortly behind!! Also, be sure to follow me on Insta – @southernmeetschic to get a play by play under the tents!!

In this 90 degree heat and humidity it’s been impossible to practically “transition to fall.” I am not one who foregoes the forecast and jumps into my boots and sweaters sooner just to be sweating my booty off. So, my solution to this madness is to incorporate more fall colors into my wardrobe, but still wear light and breathable fabrics. Luckily, we’ve had a few cooler days lately (and by cooler I mean 80 instead of 90) and I was able to slip into a pair of jeans for a day of running around visiting with local boutiques. These pants are the only denim purchase I’ve made so far this season and I am in LOVE!! I saw them on J Brand’s Instagram a few months ago and knew that I needed a pair, but when one of my favorite local boutiques, II Brunettes, got them in it was a given! Grey jeans have been a huge trend starting last spring and have been worn by celebrities such as Alexa Chung, Cara Delavigne and Kim Kardashian. I’m a huge fan and feel like they give me a little bit of a rock & roll vibe every time I wear them. A lot of times I will play that up by wearing a cheeky graphic tee, but for my boutique visits I needed to be a little more put together. Plaid is another huge trend for fall and this white and black plaid is a perfect transitional piece with the light colors and sheer fabric still keeping you cool. Later on, you can wear the plaid trend with some darker colors and in wool or cotton fabrics {I can’t wait}. To throw in a little contrast of color I wore a pair of camel colored suede booties. I brought out some serious fall colors in a big statement necklace, which I then paired with my blue crossbody bag to pull out the blues. To add a bit of drama and another ode to fall I puckered up with a bold burgundy lip! I love a burgundy lip and unlike bright red, it’s very wearable!! This is an outfit that you can wear now and when it gets cooler just throw on a black leather jacket and go!

Something that I can never have enough of in my closet are easy little shift dresses that I can just throw on and go. They’re just so easy to wear, but still look really put together (read: instead of yoga pants and a tee shirt). So, when I saw this floral beauty, it was love at first sight! The colors are perfect for fall, without being dull. Red is actually going to be a huge color this fall, along with any other bright, rich colors. Gone are the days of sticking to grey and brown! The great thing about this dress is that it also transitions nicely. Wear it now with nothing extra, a few weeks from now with a denim jacket and when it really gets chilly add black tights, leather jacket and booties. Another trend I’m loving for fall is a big floppy hat, this girl loves any excuse for a hat!! While the reds don’t really match from the dress to the hat, I think they compliment each other really nicely. A true red would’ve been wayyy too much going on for the hat. I accessorized with a fun arm full of different bangles. For shoes I wore a pair of neutral suede booties, but this could also be worn with black. I just really like the contrast of the camel color. This is a great casual fall afternoon outfit that can easily take you into night just adding a denim or leather jacket.

I hope everyone had a wonderful unofficial last weekend of summer!! Mine was spent with amazing family and friends on the beach and in the boat! Even though it was full of fun and no work, I’m still exhausted. I ate lots of unhealthy goodies, got too much sun and probably drank one too many margaritas. I am happy to get back on track this week, but still feeling like I need to recover from the weekend. This is when a good lazy, but busy day outfit comes into play. My go-to comfort style is definitely boho. Most of the pieces are loose and comfortable, but still look somewhat put together and stylish. I found this Free People blouse at Marshall’s {currently on sale for even less at Revolve}  and knew that it would be a staple in my lazy day wardrobe. Since it’s still obviously really hot out, I wore this with a pair of cut off denim shorts. To really make this public acceptable, I wore a pair of block heel gladiator sandals rather than flip-flops. They’re still really comfortable, but makes it look a little more intentional. I wore all of my everyday accessories- speedy with a strap, bangles and aviators. This look is perfect for a day when you have some running around to do, but still want to be comfortable and relaxed. The blouse can also transition to fall nicely by pairing it with distressed skinnies and a pair of booties.

Today I decided to spice things up and have some midweek FUN and that’s what this get up is all about!! This is the perfect look for a girl’s night out on the town or for me, a fun fashion event. I’ve been really into the whole matching set look for several months now, and this is the same idea but jazzed up a bit! I fell in love with this top a while ago, but didn’t have anything in my closet to pair it with (my husband would beg to differ). When I saw the skirt I just knew it would compliment it perfectly! The caged sleeves on the top have been a super hot trend and take the crop top look from boring to bold. The graphic print on the skirt is gorgeous and adds a youthful, vibrant vibe to the whole outfit. The skirt can easily go from summer to winter by throwing on tights, booties and a black crop top sweater. You could also make this work environment friendly by trading the crop top for a blazer and stilettos for a nice pair of pumps or flats. This skirt is so versatile and such a fun statement piece to have in your closet!! Since the skirt is so busy, I did something I rarely do and matched my shoes to my top. I also kept accessories to a minimum with a fun bangle that had complimenting colors. I’ve recently been really into ponytails- not sure if it’s a new trend or if my hair is just driving me crazy. But, either way they can look super chic and this one does the trick for this outfit! Keeping my hair down would’ve taken away from the caged sleeves and not looked as polished. This is such a fun outfit to wear and will make anyone feel sassy and confident!!

Continuing on with our Maxi Monday Month of August is our last super summery goddess gown. This dress is literally the maxi of your dreams. I know that when I want to wear a long dress, it’s because I want something comfortable and easy breezy. This blue tie dye by Ava Sky is just that! It’s super easy to throw on and go, but at the same time makes a huge statement! Because it’s such a bold dress, I like to keep the accessories to a minimum. I wore a bangle on one arm and a nifty hand ring/bracelet on the other. They added just the perfect amount of boho to this carefree look. The length of the dress easily allows for a wedge, but I love how it flows with flats. I paired it with a simple pair of nude flats for an almost barefoot hippie look. This attire is perfect for just about any occasion, but I love it for a beach lunch or even a music festival. It is SUCH a fun look to wear and sure to take your maxi wardrobe up to the next level!

Today is one of my favorite posts yet! It may not be the most on trend fashionable outfit, but it’s a glimpse into a day in my real life and what I would be wearing for a bike ride in the park. Okay, so I MAY not always bike around with flowers in my basket, but I am a fresh flowers freak so you never know! The amazing pictures are again courtesy of Carissa Cady Photography. First, let me tell you about my baby, my bike! I absolutely LOVE her!! When I pictured myself having a beach cruiser for the first time years ago, this is exactly what I had in mind. The guys at Affordabike were so knowledgable and most importantly patient with me. I wanted specific colors for the bike, seat, handlebars, basket etc, it was all about the look for me, something that guys who work at a bike shop don’t really identify with. But, they were so nice and made sure I had my bike just the way I wanted it. Not to mention they have the most precious pit bull as their shop dog. Unfortunately, they wouldn’t let me take her home! I rode my bike home that day and the rest is history!! One of my favorite places to ride, and really just to go to in general, is Hampton Park. Up until last Friday, we lived only a block away and even just writing this post is making me a bit emotional about not being right there anymore. If you live in Charleston and haven’t been to Hampton Park, you’ve GOT to do something about it! It’s the perfect spot for a picnic, exercising or letting the dogs run around. As for my outfit, this is a pretty basic look that I feel any of you could put together. I do really love the colors of this shirt and the back button details. The white pants make the look super bright and cheery, perfect for a Spring or Summer day! The sandals are one of only two purchases {both shoes} that I made on my honeymoon in Italy. Overall, this is a pretty basic look that is easy to put together, but still adorable nonetheless.
