Pretty in…Purple?

southern-blogger-28

First, I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of love following yesterday’s post! I was beyond touched with all of your kind words and encouragement, and so thankful that I was also able to touch some of you with my experience. But, enough of the yucky feelings talk- today’s post is all about a dress that makes me feel good!! You know, that one you can put on no matter how down you are and still feel like a million bucks?! It’s all about finding the colors, shape and fit that’s flattering on your body and most importantly, makes you feel confident.

southern-blogger-30 southern-blogger-31 southern-blogger-33

My favorite trend for summer has by far been off the shoulder tops and dresses. It’s a similar problem to my 2014 romper craze and I just can’t get enough of it. There’s something so sexy about a showing a little shoulder skin and I instantly feel feminine and confident in this style. Add in the gorgeous lace and hip hugging in just the right places and you’ve got yourself the perfect dress for date night or GNO! Bonus: it’s on sale right now for HALF OFF, and if you’re not one for color, it also comes in black.

southern-blogger-36southern-blogger-32southern-blogger-39

Speaking of color, the description says “corn flower blue” and it appeared to be a soft baby blue. Clearly that is not the case. I’m not going to lie, when I got it in the mail I was really disappointed that it was more of a purple. My elementary, middle & high school colors were purple and white, so I’ve successfully kept it out of my wardrobe ever since graduation. I mean, a girl can only wear bright purple for so long. But, the more I stared at this dress in my closet, the more the color grew on me, and now I’m just plain obsessed! Purple had been so far gone from my life for so long that I almost feel like I’m discovering a new color to wear! Besides, this is more of a periwinkle than a true purple, so I don’t think I’ll get mistaken for a First Baptist student anytime soon. (because other than that I totallyyy look like I could pass as a high schooler-right?!)

Back in Action

southern-blogger-5

It’s no news to y’all that SMC has been pretty bare all summer, and I’m so excited to announce that I’m officially back to blogging for good! But, I also feel the need to share with y’all a little bit of the story behind my break.

I started my blog a year and a half ago because I wasn’t feeling fulfilled in the “house wife life.” As much as I love my man, I felt that I was meant to do more and be more. In the time since I started blogging, I’ve gotten married to my husband, moved to a new house (and just found out we’re having to move again #rentallife), been given lots of opportunities in the fashion industry- including becoming the Charleston editor of Carolina STYLE Magazine, had my husband’s daughter and her 2 children move in with us, travelled to 6 different states & 8 countries, and went through a total hair makeover (enter the year of the ombré LOB). Sounds like a pretty great year and a half- am I right?! Or at least it should have been! But, instead of being able to fully enjoy all of the amazing things taking place in my life, I was constantly battling my own self and the strive for perfection.

Perfectionism is something that was instilled in me from a very young age. My mother didn’t mean any harm and always only wanted the best for me, but she also expected me to behave a certain way. Being the little people pleaser I was/am, I attempted to always exceed expectations. As I got older, these behavioral expectations from my mother evolved into me placing a high standard for myself in anything and everything I was doing. Then, in comes the teenage years and I was hit with the dreaded INSECURITIES that all of us women go through. Seriously though, are those not the worst?! I rebelled from my perfectionist ways and decided to give the opposite a try- doing everything I knew wasn’t right. This didn’t work either and just gave me more to beat myself up about later on in life. As if I needed anymore of that!! So finally, here I was in what seemed to be the perfect life, but something still wasn’t right. In fact, I could hear that inner battle even stronger than before. It goes a little something like this- “you aren’t good enough,” “you don’t deserve this,” “you aren’t pretty enough,” “you aren’t skinny enough,” “you just aren’t PERFECT enough”… sound familiar?!

southern-blogger-1

As women especially, we torture ourselves to try to meet these insane standards that society {and ourselves} has brainwashed us with. Whether it’s about your looks, career goals, being a great mom- we strive for this perfection that will never be attained. Because the reality is nobody is perfect- not me, not you, not Kendall Jenner & GiGi Hadid- nobody! We all have flaws and that is what makes us the special people that we are. I know we grow up hearing cliché phrases like this all of our lives, but it’s taken me a really long road to be able to say the words and truly mean them. In this war against myself, I’ve thrown away countless opportunities, strained relationships, wounded friendships and really just beat myself down. There were days this summer that I didn’t even want to get out of bed, and I didn’t. It was a really low time for me, but I feel like I had to get down to the darkest place to be able to make sense of all of this for my future.

This isn’t something that is easy for me to share (because ghasp! no perfectionist wants other people to know they’re not perfect!) and even writing this now I’m toying with the idea of just publishing an outfit post and pretending that my hiatus never happened. But, not only is this essential for me to move forward, but I felt the urge to share my experience with y’all. I have yet to perfect this whole “not being a perfectionist” thing, and I’m not here to give out advice on how to change your mindset, because I feel that’s going to be a different path for everyone. What I am here to do is let you know that you aren’t alone in these feelings. I know this is something that almost every single female goes through, whether it’s at 12 or 25 or 65, we all doubt ourselves and get down on ourselves at some point in life. And if me sharing my story helps to make even one person feel better and to know that they aren’t alone in their insecurities, then this post will be totally worth it. I know that as fashion bloggers we are constantly giving y’all the best version of ourselves, but the reality is we’re insanely flawed too! I don’t ever want anyone to look at my blog and get down on themselves or think that I am this perfect person. Southern Meets Chic is meant to inspire you to be YOU- whoever that may be!! This is a platform to empower women and for me to encourage you be the best version of yourself- flaws included!!

This summer has given me the necessary time to reflect and rejuvenate myself. I’m SO excited to be back to blogging and I’ve got so much fun stuff I’m excited to share with y’all! I know in the past SMC has been all about fashion, but I’m going to be bringing in more and more lifestyle posts as well. I would love to hear what kind of topics y’all are interested in!! Check back tomorrow morning for my first outfit post back- i’m kinda obsessed with the look! Also, be sure to follow me on social media [hit social above for links] as we head to SPAIN for my 25th birthday on Wednesday!! (insert 400 salsa betch emojis) Lastly, thank y’all for continuing to read, especially this rambling emotional post- although I wish these feelings on nobody, I do hope my words will help someone somewhere. XO

Summer Nights

DSC_0593It’s been a little while since my last post, as we’ve been traveling most of spring, but I’m so excited to begin sharing our adventures with y’all! If you follow me on Instagram, you probably know I’m most excited to post about our California trip, but this evening I wanted to show you a look I wore while on a quick weekend getaway to Myrtle Beach. Now, the “dirty myrtle” isn’t the most luxurious destination, but we go every year for the Monday After the Master’s charity golf tournament, put on by Hootie and the Blowfish, and we always have a great time! Plus, it’s an easy 45 minute drive from home and who can say no to a little calabash shrimp buffet every once in a while?! (JOKING) Seriously though, it’s a weekend we look forward to every year and this year we were also able to spend it with my parents to celebrate my mom’s birthday! This evening’s look was what I wore to the M.A.M. concert that takes place after the tournament- talk about a good time!!
DSC_0602DSC_0588One of my absolute most favorite trends this summer is off the shoulder! The style is so feminine and flirty, and I love showing off my shoulders and collarbone. It’s something I can wear to be sexy without feeling overexposed. When I saw this top from one of my go-to brands, Show Me Your Mumu, I knew I had to have it! Not only does the white go with everything, but it really makes your tan skin glow after a long day on the beach. I paired the top with a pair of distressed boyfriend jeans to be sure to keep things casual and comfortable.
DSC_0620DSC_0606I accessorized with these fabulously boho layering necklaces from II Brunettes that have quite possibly been one of the best purchases I’ve ever made! I wear them together, separate, mixed with other necklaces- the options are seriously endless. I just love how the green pendant brings just a touch of color to this mainly neutral ensemble. I did stick with nude for my bag and shoes because I think it kept the outfit cohesive and classy. When in doubt- stick with neutrals!!  DSC_0590This is the perfect outfit for a summer night out to a concert, dinner date or drinks with friends. It’s super classy and put together, while still remaining casual and effortless, which is basically how I strive to look at all times {but realistically don’t}. If you wanted to dress this down even further for daytime, you could wear a pair of denim cutoffs with gladiator sandals and throw on a straw panama hat. (see below for this exact version on me!)

Top: Show Me Your Mumu | Pants: Joe’s Jeans from StyleDwell | Shoes: Dolce Vita from StyleXchange | Bag: GiGi New York from Trés Carmen Boutique | Necklaces: II Brunettes (1 available here)

New Leaf

smc-32

Ever since Charleston Fashion Week, I’ve been in a bit of a slump- blogging, fashion and just life in general! It’s rough being an almost 25 year old female, am I right?! As frustrating as weeks like this can be, I truly believe they’re essential to recharge your energy and inspiration. Fortunately, we were able to get away for a long weekend at the beach and I’m feeling refreshed! Plus, I’ve also got a new official photog- Katie Capo of Catherine Ann Photography– and what better way to turn over a new leaf than with some fab new blog photos?! Seriously y’all, she’s so awesome! If you need some new Pinterest Wedding board inspo, definitely head over to her site! I’ve got several fun and festive spring looks coming for y’all, but considering I like to keep it real here on SMC, I figured it was only right to share what I’ve been living in these past few grouchy weeks. When I say living, I literally mean living. As in, I’ve considered purchasing 3 of everything seen here just so I don’t have to wash them so often. Yes, it’s become a problem! But, this laid back look isn’t near as lazy or boring as it could be {lookin’ at you yoga pants}.

smc-33 smc-36

My go to print will forever be black and white stripes. I always feel comfortable and confident in this classic style and it truly works with just about anything. Since it’s such a polished look, I paired this top with my number 1 pair of distressed denim shorts. I snagged these Lovers and Friends babes at a II Brunettes end of the season sale and they are the best denim shorts I’ve ever owned! The fit, wash, length, hole placement- everything is on point! Plus, even when they aren’t on sale, they won’t break the bank.

smc-39smc-37

I could’ve just thrown on a pair of flip flops and called it a day, but this is Southern Meets Chic and I’ve got to throw in a trendy twist. In comes one of my favorite spring trends- sneakers! I’m obsessed with sneakers lately! Not only are they comfy and hide un-pedicured toes, but I put a pair on and instantly feel cooler. The cool factor is especially high when they’re a pair of Stan Smith Adidas- therefore fulfilling all of my middle school nostalgia withdrawals of walking around saying All Day I Dream About Sports {or if you’re naughty Sex}- I can’t be the only one who remembers that!

smc-44smc-41smc-38

Throw on my YSL bag and my new $5 Forever sunnies (that you also may recognize from miss TopKnots PolkaDots because we have the same brain) and this is the perfect easy breezy look, fit for any quarter century life crisis!

CHSFW 2015: Day 2 Outfit

APD_3383-XL APD_3387-XL

I’m SO excited to share with y’all one of my most favorite looks to date!! This is the outfit I wore for the second night of Charleston Fashion Week. In typical Charleston fashion, the weather was 85 on Tuesday and 55 on Wednesday, so this was perfect to withstand the cooler temps! This AMAZING romper I’m wearing is Annie Griffin Collection, courtesy of Finicky Filly. I’m obsessed with the print and colors!! This style of romper is a great way to transition to spring on those chilly nights.

APD_3386-XL APD_3397-X2

Considering my feet were killing me from wearing heels the entire day before and the weather, I paired this up with my Sam Edelman thigh high boots. (that I scored for $60 at Saks Off 5th) The thigh high and shorts combo is a huge trend for spring and after seeing Vanessa Hudgens rock it, I knew I had to try; and what better time than CHSFW?! I got a few crazy stares when I told people I was going to wear thigh highs and a romper, but I got a ton of compliments!! Plus, I loved the look and that’s all that really matters, right?APD_3404-XL APD_340-XL

To throw in a little pattern play, because I loveee me some pattern play, I carried my Clare V. leopard print clutch. These patterns are seriously HEAVEN together!! Sorry if I’m gloating guys, but I just really was happy with this get up!!

APD_3390-XL

I accessorized with a fabulous gold chain statement necklace courtesy of Moon and Lola. This is a must have necklace for any woman and any style! You can literally put it on with just about anything and it just takes your whole outfit up a notch! I kept the rest of my jewelry simple with Moon and Lola dainty midi rings and these understated, but super cool, earrings. I actually wish I could wear this outfit everyday of my life!! I’m not sure how i’ll top this one, but keep reading all week to see more of my looks from Charleston Fashion Week!!

CHSFW 2015: Day 1 Runway Review

CFW-2015-BakerMotorFINAL-Logo

Charleston Fashion Week is always the perfect kick off to my favorite time of year, Spring!! The weather is just starting to warm up, so everyone is in great spirits and able to have fun with their style after a long winter. Another thing I love about CHSFW, unlike NYFW, we’re also watching a lot of spring styles come down the runway. It’s exciting to see pieces that you can buy and wear now! I really enjoy seeing all of the local retailers that I work with on a daily basis show on the runway. Plus, it’s great that if I see something I have to have I can just go grab it! The emerging designers always present such innovative collections and really put up a tough fight for the Emerging Designer Competition. I love seeing such fresh talent coming and getting their chance to shine here in Charleston. But, my favorite part of the show is always the featured designers and boy did they line up some good ones this year! All this week, I’ll be sharing with y’all my outfits and runway reviews from each night. Thanks to Side Yard Studios I’ve got some amazing runway shots for y’all! Today we’re kicking things off with an awesome first night featuring Bits of Lace outfitted in Croghan’s Jewel Box and Shoes on King, Trés Carmen Boutique, 4 fabulous emerging designers and 2 CFW alumni, Anna Toth and Charleston natives Leah & Rebecca Plante. It was one hell of a first night to say the least!!

Bits of Lace – wearing Croghan’s Jewel Box & Shoes on King

IMG_5341IMG_5385

You may have found me over on Bits of Lace’s Instagram on Tuesday for a little takeover!! I was so thrilled to do it because they show every year and it’s always beautiful, so I knew this year wouldn’t disappoint. I absolutely loved all of the fun bright colors they showed! It kept things sassy and youthful, but still elegant with the beautiful lace. It looks like the high waisted trend is also here to stay! I’m personally a huge fan of this as it’s so flattering to almost any figure. That’s also going to be a big swimsuit trend again this year!

IMG_5310IMG_5462

Color is so much fun, but your classic black and neutral lace will always be in style! I love this barely blush pink set that actually opened the show. It’s so feminine and romantic, sure to make you feel absolutely beautiful! Then there’s this classic black lace look that closed the show, but it’s far from traditional. The pattern of the lace and the cut of the bottoms give a fresh update to the go-to style. These were both so stunning styled with the long robes. Such a dramatic look! I’m seriously contemplating moving to Paris, walking around my beautiful loft like this all of the time and sipping champagne all day- because that’s actually what these looks make me want to do!

IMG_5408IMG_5419

Okay ladies, you didn’t think they’d leave us hanging without any eye candy, did you? Buff boys strutted the runway in Saxx underwear. I can vouch for these as the softest undies i’ve ever felt! Why can’t they make girl boxers?! They’ve also got some pretty sweet prints to choose from!

IMG_5349 IMG_5360

Bits of Lace carries a little something for everyone, so of course, they had to get some adorable kiddos on the runway! These PJ’s from BedHead are so stinking cute!! Who says you have to succumb to the character pajamas?!

IMG_5442IMG_5427

Beautiful women’s lingerie, men’s comfiest undies eva and adorable kid’s pi’s – what else could they have, right? Swimwear, that’s what! I love this whole one piece look- another comeback swimwear trend. And those shoes with it!! Bits of Lace keeps it simple and classy with their swimwear, making it the perfect stop for women all over the spectrum.

Trés Carmen Boutique

IMG_5656IMG_5550

Trés Carmen is one of my favorite local boutiques! They carry a great combination of classic southern styles and fashion forward pieces with a little boho chic thrown in- basically they’re exactly my style. Their opening night show had everyone under the tents craving a Miami vacation in the sun! Can you not see yourself lounging on a yacht in these two looks? I’m obsessed!!

IMG_5493 IMG_5639

These two looks were styled by yours truly for a recent photo shoot I worked on with Trés Carmen! This BCBG jumpsuit is an absolute stunner! I also love the high neck navy dress. My preggo friend and fellow blogger actually wore it last night to CHSFW and looked fab! These were the perfect looks to pair with fun colored GiGi clutches- I think y’all know by now my love for those!

IMG_5529

Bitch stole mah look!!! This is the BCBG dress I wore for opening night!! LOVE it for daytime with this big floppy hat though!!

Amanda Dreeson

IMG_5801 IMG_5872 IMG_5880

North Carolina native, Amanda Dreeson started the Emerging Designer part of the night off with a bang! With models wearing ram’s horn head pieces and her inspiration coming from fantastical character’s, this was a show that captivated viewers. She specifically used the movie Pan’s Labyrinth as her muse for this collection. Incorporating several different textures from sequins and tulle to faux leather and fur, every piece was fit for a fairytale!

Hazel Cole by Sarah Hazel Cannon & Rachel Cole Cannon

IMG_5719 IMG_5727 IMG_5767

This sister duo coming from Raleigh, North Carolina absolutely killed their debut on the CHSFW runway! Their use of a grayscale color scheme was so elegant and anything but boring. I loved how they implemented fun faux fur accessories- really taking these back to an old school Russian vibe. But, the real stunner was the finale gown- holy cow!! This was something fit for a Hollywood red carpet! I could totally see someone like Blake Lively or Naomi Watts rocking this number! It’s no surprise that these 2 young designers were the People’s Choice winner for the night!

Johanna Hickey & Orea Guthrie

IMG_5997IMG_5988IMG_6014

These two ladies from Savannah aren’t just interested in creating a beautiful collection; they also want to make it sustainably. They’re passionate about all of their methods being ethically and environmentally sound. They stay true to this by using exclusively natural fibers and placing a special emphasis on craft. So, not only can you feel great about how you look, but you can also feel great about how the product was made! I love their use of on trend printed graphics. The skirt and top look is my favorite and is impeccably styled with the tights, sneakers and coral lip!

Richelle ValenzuelaIMG_5900 IMG_5920 IMG_5956
Now, onto the man of the night- Richelle Valenzuela, who will be moving on to the finals for the Emerging Designer Competition on Saturday night!  If you can’t tell from the quality of his work and the modern style, he is showing in Charleston all the way from New York. The pieces were impeccably tailored and beautifully structured. And like, can I get one of those navy studded jackets please?!

Bow + Arrow by Anna Toth

IMG_6056 IMG_6118 IMG_6131

Featured designer, Anna Toth, is no stranger to Charleston Fashion Week. She was the co-winner {alongside Plante Clothing} in last year’s Emerging Designer Competition and People’s Choice winner. This year she came back to show us what she’s been up to this last year and Bow + Arrow did not disappoint. The fellow South Carolina girl uses all American cotton to create her line of sustainable clothing. She truly caters to the All American girl and brought that out in on jumpsuits and gingham!

Plante Clothing by Leah and Rebecca Plante

IMG_6237 IMG_6249 IMG_6291 IMG_6329

What’s the perfect finale to an opening night of fashion week?! A Plante sister’s show!! These Charleston natives never disappoint in a beautiful show and collection! With models wearing their signature floral crowns, which y’all know I love, every look was beautiful coming down the runway. The sisters make great use of soft, flowy fabrics to create simple, but flirty and feminine looks! I would literally wear everything they showed!

CHSFW 2015: Day 1 Outfit

APD_3009

Okay guys, so it’s looking like I’m not going to get my full runway review in until tomorrow, but I’m dying to share last night’s look with y’all!! I wore this adorable pleated BCBG dress courtesy of one of my absolute favs, Trés Carmen Boutique, who also sent this look down the runway last night. The weather in Charleston was beautiful last night, actually it was almost to the point of hot and muggy, so this style was perfect for the temps. I stayed cool and comfortable all night, plus pinch proof because after all, it was St. Patrick’s Day!

APD_3017APD_3011APD_3034

Since this dress had a good bit of color going on, I kept my bag and shoes to a neutral shade with my go-to GiGi (also from Trés Carmen) and my favorite new Dolce Vita heels from StyleXchange. The color of both the shoes and bag is so beautiful and so perfect to go with all of your bright spring colors!

APD_3012 copyAPD_3022APD_3020

Thanks to the ridiculously cool girls at Theodosia, I was set up with some awesome jewelry for the week!! I love how the color from the long stranded necklace pulls out that sea foamy color in the dress. I layered that up with their dainty, but beautiful, rose cut diamond necklace. It’s amazing what a difference a little dainty layering can do for an outfit!! Then, I kept the earrings simple with these STUNNING opal studs!! Currently begging the hubby to let me keep these babays!! Pair that with my daintily layered Moon and Lola midi rings and my accessories were complete! I loved that this gave off a bit of a boho vibe so that I was able to wear my new rounded frame Ray Bans. They’re kinda my fav ever!

APD_3029 APD_3032

Can’t wait to share with y’all my full runway review tomorrow!! That will be posted early in the a.m. with my outfit post following shortly behind!! Also, be sure to follow me on Insta – @southernmeetschic to get a play by play under the tents!!

Classic B + W

DSC_0446

Yesterday was the first day of Charleston Fashion Week and for those of you who aren’t familiar, it’s quite a big to do!! I’ll be bringing y’all my looks from each night of shows and full runway reviews each day. But, to start off the week, I’m sharing with y’all my outfit for the first official event under the tents in Marion Square, the Gwynn’s Raise the Runway Brunch to benefit MUSC Children’s Hospital. This is such a lovely event for such a great cause and I wanted to wear something equally as lovely!

DSC_0449DSC_0462

What could be more lovely than a classic black and white look with a pop of pretty florals?! Yeah, pretty much nothing! I love how simply chic this outfit is!! I felt confident and fashion forward but understated all at the same time. This is an outfit that you can look back on 50 years from now and still think it’s stylish! I think it’s perfect for a daytime event like this- here’s looking at all you 20 somethings with a million bridal and baby showers to attend this spring!!

DSC_0463

Not only did Gwynn’s hook me up with seats for my hubby and I at this amazing event, but they also made sure I was looking Charleston Fashion Week ready with a fabulous makeup application by Brittany!! (not me Brittany obvi) Gwynn’s only carries absolute top of the line products like Trish McEvoy and Laura Mercier, so I knew it would be beautifully done but I had no idea how much fun she would have with it. Since it was St. Patty’s day and all, she gave me a little pop of color with GREEN eyeliner. Yep, you read that right. I’m normally not a colored eye makeup kinda gal, but I absolutely loved this look! It was super subtle, but definitely kept me pinch proof all day! She also did an amazing job with my base makeup (which I’m super picky about) and it lasted me all the way through brunch and the evening of shows and after parties! Basically, they made me feel super pretty- thanks Gwynn’s!!

DSC_0447DSC_0495

As much as I love the clean and classic look of black and white, it is spring and it is fashion week, so I couldn’t just leave it at that!! This was the perfect blank palette to take my new Ted Baker bag for a spin, and it just so happens to come from Gwynn’s so I loved being able to rep them at their own event! Have I told y’all about my recent Ted Baker obsession? It’s been going on for about a year now and I just love everything he puts out! I think I’m just really into all of the U.K. and Aussie brands lately- they know what they’re doing!!

DSC_0456DSC_0499

Just in time for Charleston Fashion Week, I finally took the plunge and made a nice midi ring purchase from Moon and Lola!! I’ve had several before, but they were cheapies and turned color pretty quickly. These are the perfect everyday delicate pieces! A couple of midi rings are a great way for people like me, who don’t love to over accessorize, to still feel like they have something on without being way over the top.

DSC_0464 DSC_0501

I just absolutely love this skirt from Trés Carmen Boutique!! Oh, and did I mention it was only $35 dollars!! Is that not a steal?! It’s really a staple skirt to keep in your closet for spring and summer. It could go so many ways and really look flattering on just about anyone! I can’t wait to pair it with a black and white stripe top and my new neon yellow sandals for a little more of a casual look!

DSC_0465DSC_0516

Stay tuned later this afternoon for my outfit from last night and a full runway review from all of the shows!! So excited to share everything with y’all this week!!  XO

SWT: Tuscan Wedding at Boone Hall

boone-hall-wedding-249boone-hall-wedding-255

What better time to kick off my new Wedding Wednesday series than the week before Valentine’s Day?! I won’t be doing the series on a weekly basis, but when I’m feeling inspired I’ll be sharing everything from tips and tricks to real life weddings to real life fake weddings, like this one! A real life fake wedding, you ask? These images, brought to you from the always amazing Catherine Ann Photography, are from my first official experience working with Scarlet Plan and Design on the Scarlet Wedding Tour. The SWT took 3 buses of couples to 4 of the hottest wedding venues in Charleston- Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina, The Historic Rice Mill, Upstairs at Midtown and my personal favorite, Boone Hall Plantation. The talented planners set up a fake wedding in each spot, complete with a bride and groom! In this post, you’ll be seeing the Boone Hall Tuscan themed Wedding, which was created by owner of Scarlet Plan and Design, Sara Skinner.
boone-hall-wedding-87 boone-hall-wedding-84boone-hall-wedding-63

Miss Taylor Girl, who you may know as one of my fab blogger friends, Holy City in Heels, was the perfect choice of bride for this venue! Her sweet and innocent appearance went so well with the look we were going for. Since this was an Italian themed wedding, Alden and I immediately knew this dress had to be lace! We wanted her look to have a vintage feel, but still feel fashion forward. In comes the illusion neckline! This has been a big trend in bridal for a few seasons now and I don’t see it going anywhere soon. It’s perfect for the bride who wants to stay classic and conservative, but not have a boring dress either. I’m a back kinda girl, so this dress really just does it for me with the sheer back and buttons- SWOON!

boone-hall-wedding-65boone-hall-wedding-233

Since it was January, although our fake wedding was supposed to be fall, this vintage fur stole was the most perfect addition to her look! This stole was my great grandmothers and one of the most dear things to me. Always ask your family members if you need something like this. It makes it that much more special to have a family heirloom involved in your big day. The color that Sara chose for her theme was {my favorite} marsala. I LOVE marsala for a fall wedding, what you can do with the flowers is just beautiful! Wildflower did not disappoint with this absolutely stunning bouquet and a floral headband that went perfectly with the bride’s look! I just love using a floral crown for a wedding and a headband is the perfect way to add a little flowers to the hair, but not let it read tooo boho.

Disclaimer: Taylor and our groom, Max, are totally not even a couple. In fact, they hadn’t even met until this day. But, they did a great job faking it, right?!

I can’t let the bride get ALL of the attention!! Our groom, Max, looked quite dapper himself in a classic black tux from Charleston Tuxedo. Before I go into detail about his look, let me tell you a little bit about Max. He was the perfect candidate to play groom, not just because of his glorious man bun, but because he makes and sells his own olive oil! Does it get more Italian than that?! You can find him (and yes, his man bun) at the Charleston Farmer’s Market selling Holy Smoke Olive Oil, or order online for a taste! Again, we instantly knew what type of look we wanted Max to have for his “big day.” Italian, to me, says classic and traditional (trust me, i’m Italian, they don’t like change!) so what better to go with a beautiful lace gown than a classic black tux? Really, I don’t think there’s anything that looks more dapper on a man. Plus, it’s also a flattering look for any shape and size groomsmen in your lineup. Want to change things up a bit?! Throw on a white dinner jacket for the reception, or the whole event!

Sara and her team did an amazing job of setting up the very southern Boone Hall Plantation to look just like a scene out of Under the Tuscan Sun. The spread on the table of overflowing bouquets, gold votives and yes, vintage globes was absolutely impeccable. Each place setting had vintage china, gold flatware and (DYING) a baguette wrapped with rosemary and Holy Smoke Olive Oil! I mean, does it get any cuter than this?! All you need is a few bottles of red wine and a plate of meat and cheese to get this party started!

Speaking of cheese!! The cake was one of the most innovative wedding cake ideas i’ve ever seen, a cheese cake. Nook, not a cheesecake, a cheese cake- cake made of cheese. Aka- what I dream about at night! This was not only a beautiful display but also would be a huge highlight of the day for any cheese lover like me!

If the promise of cheese and free booze wasn’t enough to get your man on board with this wedding, the cigar rolling and bourbon bar will definitely do the trick! Set up in a mini airstream, yes I totally just said mini airstream, this man lounge is like no other I’ve ever seen! The decor remains cohesive with the beauty of the Tuscan theme, but instantly becomes more masculine when you throw in leather, vintage suitcases and stuffed animals. Guests could go inside of the airstream to see live rolling from Cigar Row and sit outside in the lounge to enjoy their cigar. I hate to break it to ya gents, but this lounge is so fab the ladies might have to get involved also!

Friday Five

a1e34a3bef56690131a668b320589cba

Couldn’t be more excited for Friday this week!! #1 I worked last weekend & it’s been a loooongg {but also super awesome} week & #2 When Monday comes I’ll be headed to NYC!! Woohoo!! I hope all of y’all are enjoying your Friday as much as I am! Have a great weekend!! Now, onto the Friday Five!! (that was a lot of exclamation marks, wasn’t it?)

1. The New Android Commercial– Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m an iPhone girl all the way. But, if there’s anything that could get me to make the switch, it’s this commercial right here! My heart literally melts every time I see it! If this doesn’t brighten your day, then I don’t know what could.

2. Target Home SaleToday & tomorrow get 20% off rugs & free shipping. Plus, spend $75 or more on your home purchase & save 15%. Thennnn if you’re a Target Red Card holder (like the addict I am) you’ll save an additional 5%. This is PERFECT for me as I’ve been working on some major home upgrades!! I’ve been eying this rug for quite some time, so making my move!!

3. Currently Craving– Am I the only one who didn’t know that there was a Jeffrey Campbell for Free People collection?! Where have I been?! There are some fab styles in the whole collection, but my favorite is the Hierro Heel. They’re a super on trend style and don’t break the bank!! My only problem is, what color to buy?! I originally wanted the grey, but now they’ve got this fabulous light blue color that I’m kind of dying over! Decisions, decisions…

4. Pioneer Woman Breakfast Quesadillas– Okay, so I know I gave y’all a recipe last Friday {anyone try it by the way?} but when I saw this breakfast quesadilla from Pioneer Woman, I couldn’t resist sharing! First of all, Lee Drummond (The Pioneer Woman) is God- at least of the kitchen! She’s the only woman that I would not only allow, but praise my husband for cheating on me with. And then, I would hope she would move in so a Sister Wives type scenario could happen and she could be like the “cook wife.” Basically, everything I make of hers is amazing and I haven’t tried these amazing looking quesadillas, but I’m sure they’ll be no different. If they turn out as pretty as they are tasty, I’ll be sure to Insta a pic this Sunday!!

5. Bits of Lace– I’ve got a super exciting Valentine’s Day giveaway coming up for y’all tomorrow on Instagram!! Be sure to follow me at @southernmeetschic to get all the deets on how you can win something for you and maybeeee even your man, from Bits of Lace. Also, if you’re looking for something sexy to wear next weekend, be sure to check them out!! They’ve got some seriously HOT stuff!!
