CHSFW 2015: Spring Bridal Show Outfit

IMG_3206

This time last year I was busy preparing for my May 10th wedding, so I certainly didn’t mind taking a trip down memory lane and attending the Charleston Fashion Week Spring Bridal Show. Besides, anything that involves bloody marys, chicken and waffle bites and a bridal fashion show, I want to be involved in! Since I had been dressing up every night, and some days, that week (plus, I had to be presentable by 11 am on a Saturday), I kept things easy breezy with this Mara Hoffman number from Finicky Filly. The lavender color makes this dress soft and understated, but Mara’s signature fun prints keep the dress from being boring! I definitely dressed it up a bit more for this event, but will spend many summer days wearing this dress with flats over a swimsuit.

I carried my Céline since this was a daytime event, and let’s face it I was running late so needed to carry a pair of sandals so I could literally run from my car to the tents. Don’t worry, the flower wasn’t decoration for my bag like those flowers people have on the dash of their Volkswagen Bug’s, it came in the gift bag.

After 4 days of having to style my hair to be around the same people, I was a little over the down curled look. Also, I was just over putting any effort into actually styling my hair at all. So, I pulled my hair into a low bun with a simple little twist secured by bobby pins. I was glad to have a rare “hair up” day because it allowed me to show off these beautiful one of a kind opal earrings courtesy of Theodosia. They were the perfect little bridal touch for the occasion and would make a touching day of gift from the groom, orrrr first anniversary present * hint hint * I also loved wearing this antique locket, also from Theodosia, for the day. It’s so unique and went so well with the colors in the Mara dress!

CHSFW 2015: Day 1 Outfit

Okay guys, so it’s looking like I’m not going to get my full runway review in until tomorrow, but I’m dying to share last night’s look with y’all!! I wore this adorable pleated BCBG dress courtesy of one of my absolute favs, Trés Carmen Boutique, who also sent this look down the runway last night. The weather in Charleston was beautiful last night, actually it was almost to the point of hot and muggy, so this style was perfect for the temps. I stayed cool and comfortable all night, plus pinch proof because after all, it was St. Patrick’s Day!

APD_3017APD_3011APD_3034

Since this dress had a good bit of color going on, I kept my bag and shoes to a neutral shade with my go-to GiGi (also from Trés Carmen) and my favorite new Dolce Vita heels from StyleXchange. The color of both the shoes and bag is so beautiful and so perfect to go with all of your bright spring colors!

Thanks to the ridiculously cool girls at Theodosia, I was set up with some awesome jewelry for the week!! I love how the color from the long stranded necklace pulls out that sea foamy color in the dress. I layered that up with their dainty, but beautiful, rose cut diamond necklace. It’s amazing what a difference a little dainty layering can do for an outfit!! Then, I kept the earrings simple with these STUNNING opal studs!! Currently begging the hubby to let me keep these babays!! Pair that with my daintily layered Moon and Lola midi rings and my accessories were complete! I loved that this gave off a bit of a boho vibe so that I was able to wear my new rounded frame Ray Bans. They’re kinda my fav ever!

Can’t wait to share with y’all my full runway review tomorrow!! That will be posted early in the a.m. with my outfit post following shortly behind!! Also, be sure to follow me on Insta – @southernmeetschic to get a play by play under the tents!!

Sunnies + Sunshine

DSC_0315

Originally, I had planned to share my next NYC recap with y’all today, but this warm weather has me feeling frisky and wanting to post something a little brighter! I’m totally that girl who rushes into sandals and tank tops at the first sight of spring and Monday’s little peek of sunshine had me doing just that for a little ladies’ midday lunch on the patio at 82 Queen. Is this not the perfect outfit for sipping mimosas on a sunny Charleston afternoon?!

DSC_0322 DSC_0336

This sweater has been my favorite to throw on for these beautiful, but still a little chilly, spring days. I’m just really into a sleeveless turtleneck at the moment and it’s so practical for the time of year! So, don’t be surprised if this continues to be on repeat throughout the next few months- sorry, not sorry! I wanted to keep this look bright and fresh, so I paired it with classic white skinnies- aka your number one spring must have. I have been dying to wear these gorg nude Prada booties ever since I snagged them on major sale at Bob Ellis, but the rain has kinda been a style cramper. I love how classy they are and the suede/bootie combo is the perfect way to keep this outfit from being too summery.

DSC_0324DSC_0353DSC_0386

I really felt that in order to keep that classic, fresh look, I needed to continue keeping things pretty neutral. My new GiGi New York bag from Trés Carmen Boutique definitely kept that going for me. I’ve had my eye on this color GiGi for quite a bit and am so happy I finally made the purchase! It’s such a classic and practical look for such a great price! Then, I topped things off with my new absolute favorite accessory, these fabbb Ray Bans! Y’all, I’m obsessed! The round frames, the tan/gold combo, the fact that they FOLD UP, oh and that I found them at Saks off 5th for 80 bucks- they’re pretty much one of the best things to ever happen to me. Not gonna lie, I just feel like a total badass wearing them. PS- they had an entire display of Ray Bans at the Saks off 5th in Tanger!!

Oh, so did I mention that I have the best friends ever and Chloe {you may know her as TopKnots and PolkaDots} took these pics for me after our adorable little birthday lunch with girlfriends?! We might have had a little too much fun and made fools of ourselves on The Battery, but I think she did a pretty darn good job. Plus, when your bestie is shooting you, you get all sorts of ridiculous outtakes like these gems below! Cue: Whip My Hair Back & Forth

2015

Yes, my first post back after the New Year is totally a cheesy beach shoot accompanied by my equally cheesy {and extremely late} list of resolutions. But, don’t stop following just yet! There are some really exciting things coming to Southern Meets Chic in the next few weeks and I would love for you to stick around to see them! I could bore you with excuses of why I haven’t been blogging, like the crazy holidays, a week of houseguests, working on future projects, but instead I would rather tell you about what I’m planning for the coming year. (see what I did there)

DSC_0913DSC_0879DSC_0906

But, before I share my goals for 2015, let me tell you about this super cozy outfit I’m wearing. I’ve been on a major Old Navy kick lately and it probably has something to do with their classic styles and ridiculously good clearance sales! This sweater was yet again another Old Navy steal and is perfect for winter days spent on the beach reminiscing on the past and looking forward to the future. (JOKING, sort of) Not only is it great to wear on a casual day out, but also it pairs perfectly with leggings and fuzzy socks for a cold night in watching Netflix. Y’all saw these jeans in my last post, but they have definitely been on repeat ever since I got them. I always love when local stores, like Styledwell, start carrying my favorite name brand denim designers! These new booties, which I wear like every day, were a product of my January 2015 winter sale-shopping spree. I mean, y’all, EVERYTHING is on sale right now!! I’ve been in heaven (although my bank account might be in hell). Luckily, these babies did not even come close to killing my budget and I will definitely be getting my money’s worth out of them. They came from one of my absolutely favorite stores in Charleston, II Brunettes. It’s one of those places that you walk in and literally want everythinggg. AKA: danger zone, but their winter sale has been killer, so i’ve loved taking full advantage of that.

Okay, so onto my goals for 2015! I’ll spare y’all from having to hear about my cliché plans to eat healthier, workout more and shop less. Although, I would love to work on all of the above (except maybe the shopping, let’s get real).

  1. Blog more consistently- I know we already chatted about this a little bit at the beginning, but it’s definitely my biggest struggle with blogging. I go through these phases of blog hiatus’ because I don’t plan my posts out enough and all of my other life obligations wind up taking precedence. For 2015 my plan is to be ahead of the time and know exactly what I’m going to post and when at least two weeks ahead of time. Additionally, I’m starting a new weekly blog series tomorrow!! It’s called The Friday Five and will keep y’all up to date with what I’m loving and interested in on a weekly basis. I’m super excited to share with y’all!
  2. Create a more inspirational work space- I’m totally guilty of being that girl who sits on her couch with her laptop all the time. While I’ve actually got a great area for my office, the decor needs some major work. For example, my desk is currently a folding table. This.has.got.to.change! I’ve got some pretty great ideas and will {of course} share the before and after with y’all! Which brings me to my next goal…
  3. Add more lifestyle posts to SMC- While I LOVE fashion and that’s definitely what I want my blog’s focus to remain, I am also really into cooking, local restaurants, art and SO much more! I want to share ALL of these wonderful things with y’all!
  4. Hone my photography skills- Like most of the above goals, I’ve already started working on this one as well. This past weekend, the hubby and I went to a full day photography class! It was a ton of information and I’m certainly not going to be a professional photographer anytime soon, (or ever) but along with more lifestyle posts comes more photography. Plus, I’ve always really enjoyed taking pictures, so I’m excited to finally be learning how to take that to the next level.
  5. Actually make time to read all of the books & magazines I buy- Pretty self explanatory. But seriously, I LOVE to read!! I just never make the time to do it. So, this year is the year of carrying a book with me everywhere I go. You never know when you’ll get a few minutes to read a few pages! (hint: instead of aimlessly scrolling Twitter or Insta)

I just want to thank everyone who follows SMC and I cannot wait to continue sharing my journey with y’all in the year 2015!! I see how far I have come since I started this venture and cannot wait to see where another year will take me! xo

Oh and big thanks to one of my high school besties for taking these pics while she was visiting me!! She’s kind of the bomb.com!!

WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM!!! Since we’re in the dog days of summer, I decided to give y’all a glimpse of what I actually would like to be doing all.the.time at this point- eating ice cream!! It’s just so hot outside and the cold, sweet ice cream tastes soooo good!! These pictures were shot at my favorite spot in town for ice cream {and fries, BLT’s, hotdogs} Ye Ole Fashioned. I may be a little biased because my husband owns the two in Summerville and the rest are all owned by his family, BUT they were also voted Best Ice Cream in Charleston for a local City Paper contest {8 years in a row} that is a pretty big deal. So, the rest of Charleston agrees!! This flirty, fun dress (maxi version here for 30% off) is the perfect choice for something like going to have ice cream. The colors just pop off of it and instantly put you in a fun mood! It’s not just playful though, the low cut back also gives you a little bit of a sexy feel. Pair it with wedges for the perfect summer date night outfit! The light material makes it really breathable and great for hot summer days or nights. Since I was going for a daytime look, I dressed it down with these sandals. I like to think of these as my prettier version of a Birkenstock. They’re a little bulkier than your average sandal, but they still have the gold strap across the top that keeps them nice and feminine. They are perfect for adding a little chic-ness to this otherwise very girly dress. Considering the bright colors, I wore my blue mirrored aviators to play that up a bit more. This is a really fun summer outfit to wear that makes you feel sexy, fun and girly all in one!! Now, go get some ice cream!!! {see below for coupon}

Today’s outfit takes us away from being the hostess and brings us to attending a super casual backyard bbq. You know, the kind with hotdogs, fireball, a PBR keg and probably drunken, illegal fireworks- aka the really fun kind! This is not something that you want to get dressed up for, but you still want to be cute for those Insta pics! Chances are no matter what city you’re in on July 4th, it’s going to be HOT! So ladies, it’s time to bust out those short cutoffs! Cutoff shorts are perfect for this type of event. These are a pair that are stretchy {think jeggings} so they are also super comfortable. I wore a blue plaid shirt that I tied at the bottom- I mean come on, nothing says America more than this! I wanted to be a little extra festive, so rather than the beads and leis that are typically passed out at an event like this, I opted for a multi strand red beaded necklace. To keep my feet clear of fire ants and beer spillage, I chose my new favorite Vans, which are surprisingly breathable and perfect for all day comfort. I take any advantage {almost never}  to wear these red classic Wayfarers that I got on super sale. Again, another replacement for those tacky red, white and blue party favor glasses that will more than likely be lying around and after a few vodka soaked watermelons you might have wound up wearing…you can thank me later!

If you follow me on Instagram, then you know what I’ve been up to for the past month- having a beautiful wedding with my best friend {now husband} and then embarking on a three week long honeymoon of our dreams to Europe! We have had an exciting and amazing past few weeks. Now, I’m thrilled to be able to share all of it with y’all! The first part of our trip, we spent traveling through northern Italy, which is where all of my outfit posts were shot. We went to Venice, Milan and Florence and loved each and every city for different reasons. Collectively though, our favorite was Milan, which is where my first post will take you. The people were wonderful, food DELICIOUS, fashion breathtaking and the big city feel incomparable. I could seriously see myself living there. To walk around town and do the tourist thing, I wanted my outfit to be a combination of comfortable, yet cool. I wanted to blend in with the locals (which, with my Italian roots isn’t too hard). Europeans have this amazing effortlessly chic look to their style. I made it my mission to embody that and soak in every bit of it while I was there. Neutrals are an easy way to do effortless. This sheer taupe blouse is a great staple to have in your closet. It can go with practically anything, in practically any weather. It is comfortable, yet classy. These cropped skinny jeans are officially my new favorites! Not only are they stretchy material, but they look great with heels, wedges, flats and flip flops. The color is a lighter wash, so I like to pair them with softer colors like ivory, nudes, and pastels. My favorite color of the year, blush pink, goes perfectly with them. Everyone remember how I say to always roll your skinny jeans when you’re wearing flats? Well, with how perfectly the hem of these fall on the leg that is not necessary. These blocked heel sandals I wore are a MUST HAVE- seriously, do yourself a favor and go out and get them NOW!!! I am obsessed with these! They are comfortable and casual enough to wear walking around a big city all day and easy enough to dress up to wear them out at night. They are the perfect shoe to take on a trip to Europe because they are so multi-functional. I love them so much, that I want to order two more pair to have on backup for when these get worn out (which the way i’ve been wearing them, they will). This bag is my go-to neutral purse. A gold chain strap takes any outfit to the next level of chic! No, it’s not Chanel {I wish} but it is still a beautiful quilted white leather purse by Kate Spade that will perfectly complete almost any outfit. Now, I must tell you the one accessory that I was missing was my hair being styled! The European outlets zapped my curling wand on the first day! So, until I could get a replacement it was au-natural for me. This actually works in Europe though, the more natural the better! Do you have any tips on what to wear when in Europe? I would love to get your input! {we are already planning our next trip}
