Friday Five

original_happy-friday-celebration-balloons

1. Girls– Okay, so I know I’m probably a little late to this party, but I felt the need to share in case any of you were still sans Lena Dunham in your life. I had bought her book, Not That Kind of Girl, a while ago on an Amazon spree, but {like many others} hadn’t gotten the chance to read it yet. Then, during a weekend long life crisis spent stressing over my life purpose, I discovered HBO’s Girls and life was okay again! Not only is Lena Dunham a literary genius full of charm and wit that has me girl crushing hard, but it’s the most relatable show I’ve ever watched. You can find a little of yourself in each of the female lead characters. I’m convinced it’s going to get me through the rest of my 20’s. Basically, if you haven’t seen it, you should probably spend your weekend binge watching!

2. Best Tote Ever– If you’re anything like me, you’ve got a million tote bags lying around your closet/entire house. But, they’re mostly Victoria’s Secret that you don’t actually want or the .99 cent grocery bag kind that you’re always forgetting to put in your car. Then, when you see a tote you actually want, it’s expensive and you feel guilty spending money on them because you’ve already got so many. Well, now’s the time to take those to Goodwill (and actually put them in your car, so you stop using plastic) because I’ve found the perfect tote bag and it’s on sale for under $30! Where does one find such an amazing deal? Target, of course!! These reversible bags are perfect for everything from the pool or beach to the farmer’s market and travel! Plus, at such a low cost, you can buy one for each of those activities!

3. H&M x CoachellaObviously, I {along with every girl in the U.S.} have been having intense Coachella F.O.M.O. I can’t be the only one who actually considered unfollowing people for the week, right?! But, I guess the next best thing is pretending you’re in the dessert by dressing the part, and H&M is here to help us out! They’ve put out a super affordable and every boho girl’s dream, Coachella themed collection to get us through all of our festival cravings. My favorite pieces are the imitation suede shorts (because I’m loving suede for spring), the adorable lace and fringe crop top (I love it in both the white and red), and of course, the “Desert Night” tank that’s perfectly suitable for lying around scrolling through everyone’s perf Coachella pics!

4. Perfect Spring Jacket– I have a serious love/hate relationship with spring weather and the only way to make it through is with a jacket that you can throw on when the chilly temps resurface! In comes Tobi to save the day and most importantly not break your budget, because the reality is you’ll really only wear something like this a few months out of the year. This vegan leather moto jacket in beautiful pastel colors is easy to wear over just about anything! I love it in the blue and lavender, but the blue is currently on sale for just $82!

5. Zinke Sale– Remember that bathing suit line that I told y’all about in a previous Friday Five post? The one with the adorable peplum one pieces and fab high waisted options?! Yeah, well, everything is now HALF OFF on their site with the code FRIENDS&FAMILY- yeah, you read that right, 50% off! I’m kind of dying inside right now and pretty sure that my summer suit wardrobe is about to be complete- and at half the cost!! Happy shopping!!

Ready for May Flowers

smc-4

Am I the only one who is totally over these April showers?! I’m so ready for the clouds to be gone and the sunshine to show it’s face! I suppose I can’t do too much complaining because we’ve definitely had a few teasers, but I want to be able to wear looks like this every day! Fortunately, we’re headed down to Miami for a family vacation and cruise next week and then leaving again for California May 6th, so guaranteed sunny skies are on my horizon! I bought this adorable floral number from II Brunettes to take on both of our trips. It’s super versatile and can easily be dressed up for dinner, as shown, or worn for a casual day exploring when paired with flat sandals or even a jean jacket and sneakers! I just love how easy breezy it is and the print is to die for!

smc-5smc-7 smc-9

I jumped on this bright pink Three Little Beads necklace the instant I saw it at Trés Carmen Boutique! It was a new color for the local jewelry designers and while I’m typically not too much of a pink girl, I knew I had to have it for summer! I initially thought it would be the perfect layering necklace, and it is, but really love how effortless it looks as a stand alone with this dress. It’s like they were made for each other! Plus, they also coordinate perfectly with my magenta sandals. Can y’all believe these were a $20 Lulu’s purchase?! Gotta love that! However, if I had the money to blow, I would sooo rock it with these fabulous Schutz shoes (that I’ve already pre-ordered in the white). Ps: if you’ve never heard of Schutz, everything of theirs is AMAZING and really not too crazy of a price point!!

smc-13smc-6smc-11

Since I already had so much color going on and nobody likes too much of a matchy matchy look, I opted to carry my simple nude GiGi New York clutch. I considered pairing it with my classic Clare V. leopard clutch, but even though the patterns coordinated perfectly, I felt it darkened this light and airy look too much. This is the perfect easy breezy dress to add to your closet, that you won’t get sick of wearing after one time! Stay tuned on social media to see how I decide to style it for vacation!!

New Leaf

smc-32

Ever since Charleston Fashion Week, I’ve been in a bit of a slump- blogging, fashion and just life in general! It’s rough being an almost 25 year old female, am I right?! As frustrating as weeks like this can be, I truly believe they’re essential to recharge your energy and inspiration. Fortunately, we were able to get away for a long weekend at the beach and I’m feeling refreshed! Plus, I’ve also got a new official photog- Katie Capo of Catherine Ann Photography– and what better way to turn over a new leaf than with some fab new blog photos?! Seriously y’all, she’s so awesome! If you need some new Pinterest Wedding board inspo, definitely head over to her site! I’ve got several fun and festive spring looks coming for y’all, but considering I like to keep it real here on SMC, I figured it was only right to share what I’ve been living in these past few grouchy weeks. When I say living, I literally mean living. As in, I’ve considered purchasing 3 of everything seen here just so I don’t have to wash them so often. Yes, it’s become a problem! But, this laid back look isn’t near as lazy or boring as it could be {lookin’ at you yoga pants}.

smc-33 smc-36

My go to print will forever be black and white stripes. I always feel comfortable and confident in this classic style and it truly works with just about anything. Since it’s such a polished look, I paired this top with my number 1 pair of distressed denim shorts. I snagged these Lovers and Friends babes at a II Brunettes end of the season sale and they are the best denim shorts I’ve ever owned! The fit, wash, length, hole placement- everything is on point! Plus, even when they aren’t on sale, they won’t break the bank.

smc-39smc-37

I could’ve just thrown on a pair of flip flops and called it a day, but this is Southern Meets Chic and I’ve got to throw in a trendy twist. In comes one of my favorite spring trends- sneakers! I’m obsessed with sneakers lately! Not only are they comfy and hide un-pedicured toes, but I put a pair on and instantly feel cooler. The cool factor is especially high when they’re a pair of Stan Smith Adidas- therefore fulfilling all of my middle school nostalgia withdrawals of walking around saying All Day I Dream About Sports {or if you’re naughty Sex}- I can’t be the only one who remembers that!

smc-44smc-41smc-38

Throw on my YSL bag and my new $5 Forever sunnies (that you also may recognize from miss TopKnots PolkaDots because we have the same brain) and this is the perfect easy breezy look, fit for any quarter century life crisis!

CHSFW 2015: Spring Bridal Show Outfit

IMG_3206

This time last year I was busy preparing for my May 10th wedding, so I certainly didn’t mind taking a trip down memory lane and attending the Charleston Fashion Week Spring Bridal Show. Besides, anything that involves bloody marys, chicken and waffle bites and a bridal fashion show, I want to be involved in! Since I had been dressing up every night, and some days, that week (plus, I had to be presentable by 11 am on a Saturday), I kept things easy breezy with this Mara Hoffman number from Finicky Filly. The lavender color makes this dress soft and understated, but Mara’s signature fun prints keep the dress from being boring! I definitely dressed it up a bit more for this event, but will spend many summer days wearing this dress with flats over a swimsuit.

IMG_3176

I carried my Céline since this was a daytime event, and let’s face it I was running late so needed to carry a pair of sandals so I could literally run from my car to the tents. Don’t worry, the flower wasn’t decoration for my bag like those flowers people have on the dash of their Volkswagen Bug’s, it came in the gift bag.

IMG_3184

After 4 days of having to style my hair to be around the same people, I was a little over the down curled look. Also, I was just over putting any effort into actually styling my hair at all. So, I pulled my hair into a low bun with a simple little twist secured by bobby pins. I was glad to have a rare “hair up” day because it allowed me to show off these beautiful one of a kind opal earrings courtesy of Theodosia. They were the perfect little bridal touch for the occasion and would make a touching day of gift from the groom, orrrr first anniversary present * hint hint * I also loved wearing this antique locket, also from Theodosia, for the day. It’s so unique and went so well with the colors in the Mara dress!

CHSFW 2015: Day 4 Runway Review

IMG_6434-2

Mosa Boutique

IMG_0918 IMG_0934 IMG_0941

Mosa Boutique may be new to Charleston, but the store has quickly become one of my favorite stops. Not only do they carry a little bit of everything- women’s, men’s, swimwear, accessories and even local art work, but they have a beer & wine bar! That’s right, you can shop while your hubby sips a beer on their comfy couches- perfection! Their debut appearance at Charleston Fashion Week showed that this King St. boutique has something for everyone’s summer needs!

IMG_0947 IMG_0949 IMG_0967

You may recognize this trendy one piece from a Friday Five post I did on Zinke Swimwear a few weeks ago. It wasn’t until a bit later that I discovered they sold them locally at Mosa! I love when I find a favorite swimwear line sold locally because bathing suits are a must try on! In fact, I’m considering heading down there sometime this week to check out this strappy purple suit. The strappy look is so on trend for swimwear and athletic wear right now. I love how Mosa styled it with the black kimono and a messy fishtail braid!

IMG_0960IMG_0991IMG_1002IMG_1008

We saw the white trend all over the CHSFW runways, and Mosa sure did it right! I love that they have options for everyone, whether you want a boho vibe or a classically chic look. These dresses are great for anyone craving a fresh, spring outfit but they’re obviously great for any bride or graduate! I could even picture the last lace one as a really boho wedding dress- think tousled hair, flower crown, field wedding.

IMG_0979 IMG_1013 IMG_1020 IMG_1028

Mosa also showed a vibrant collection of resort wear that just screams “take me on vacation!” Can y’all tell I’ve got spring fever?! I love the movement of these dresses- perfect for a pre dinner walk on the beach at sunset in Mexico…seriously y’all gotta get some beach in my life, but also gotta get into Mosa first!

Gwynn’s of Mt. Pleasant

IMG_1043

I think all of my followers know by now that I love me some Gwynn’s! Being Charleston’s only locally owned department store and carrying some of my favorite brands (think Alice & Olivia, J. Brand, Ted Baker, Kate Spade, Jimmy Choo) it’s safe to say I’m a frequent shopper! They’re truly one stop {luxury} shopping at it’s finest- with everything from mens and womenswear to beauty and home decor. They’re always a big part of CHSFW and their show never disappoints! This year, they immediately showed us it would be a hot show with a sexy swimwear look! I’m kind of dying over the necklace they styled with it!

IMG_1070 IMG_1090 IMG_1099

Each of their looks were impeccably styled, which is such a reflection of the styling assistance that you receive at Gwynn’s. I would 100% wear any of the looks shown here and feel fabulous doing so! They too showed off the all white in a bit of a trendier way, skipping the dresses and going for a modern pants look. I’m OBSESSED with both of these, so on trend but still so classy at the same time!

IMG_1163IMG_1177

Continuing on with the looks right out of Sex and the City, Gwynn’s showed colorful and fun resort wear. If this doesn’t make you want to go on vacation, I don’t know what would! Absolute perfection!

IMG_1201 IMG_1209

Of course, Gwynn’s isn’t just for the ladies! They have quite the impressive menswear department, carrying brands such as John Varvatos, Brunello Cucinelli and Peter Millar. They’re the perfect place to help your man find a suit or jacket for a special occasion or a new favorite jeans and tee for everyday.

IMG_1246IMG_1206

Gwynn’s is my go-to when getting my hubby some swim trunks (trust me, I do this often- he loves swimwear!). They carry his favorite brand, Vilebrequin, and always have a great selection!! I’ve also been admiring their spring jackets lately!

IMG_1261 IMG_1269

Of course, Gwynn’s had to end the show just as hot as it started! So, they sent two perfectly ripped models down the runway in some fun summer swimwear!! Definitely didn’t need any inspiration to get my butt back into exercising after their show!!

Daniel Velasco & Ryan Workman

IMG_1440 IMG_1457 IMG_1475 IMG_1489

These two Emerging Designers from Savannah aspire to merge art and fashion. This collection was heavily inspired by street art and tribal motifs, which you can see in the hand painted graphics. They then combined the canvas with lighter fabrics that could form better and highlight the figure of the female body. Their collection was definitely full of statement pieces and I think they did a fabulous job of making wearable art.

Casey Crespo

IMG_1522 IMG_1564 IMG_1599

Although the designer used only colors of the moon and night sky {read: grey and black}, Casey Crespo’s collection was all about the drama!! Using eco friendly fabrics, she designed this collection to show different phases of the lunar cycle. While simple in color, the bold structure makes each of these a statement piece.

Sydney Smith

IMG_1672 IMG_1693 IMG_1704 IMG_1725 IMG_1742

I was totally shocked when I read that Sydney Smith came to CHSFW from North Carolina. I thought for sure she was a NYC cool girl, because that’s exactly what her designs emulate! She was one of my top favorite Emerging Designers of the week and I could see myself wearing almost every piece she showed! I was really drawn to her silhouettes- high necks and longer hems. Plus, she’s totally onto the whole rompers and thigh high boots trend that I rocked on Night 2!

Sara Ellis Clark

IMG_3700 IMG_3710 IMG_3719 IMG_3764 IMG_3775 IMG_3789

Another North Carolina designer, Sara Ellis Clark, is a girl after my own heart with her wispy “Chloé” style meets 70’s rockstar. I’m currently dying for Coachella and this is pushing me even closer to purchasing those tix! Apparently, I wasn’t the only one into Sara’s collection because she won the Emerging Designer Competition for the evening and went on to compete Saturday night. The designer drew inspiration from a quote out of Jack Kerouac’s  On The Road- “I was at the dividing line between the East of my youth and the West of my future.” With the focus of movement and direction, she used lines, tucks and pleats to represent roads and routes. This is a collection that I not only resonate with because it’s my style, but because what it stands for is very symbolic of where I am in my life right now- movement and direction!

Roy Blake Smith

IMG_1843 IMG_1853 IMG_1874 IMG_1884 IMG_1919

Emerging Designer, Roy Blake Smith, designs pieces that are right out of a fantasy! He enjoys pushing boundaries and creating wearable art for women who truly appreciate it. His show started off very dark and then evolved into more deep, colorful dyes. His use of tie-dye was unexpectedly beautiful! What really drew me into his designs were the shapes and silhouettes of the skirts. From the wrap style pencil skirt and the casually sexy slit in the tie-dye skirt to the stunning layering in the finale dress- his shapes were absolutely beautiful!

Todd Snyder New York

IMG_1954 IMG_1991 IMG_1999 IMG_2016 IMG_2048 IMG_2089 IMG_2133

Immensely successful NYC designer, Todd Snyder, was featured on Friday night. Before starting his own label, he worked at the helm of Gap, Polo Ralph Lauren and J. Crew. Now, his namesake label is sold internationally at stores such as Bergdorf’s, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Barney’s, but this was his first time making his way down to show at CHSFW! His menswear collection is modern, but simplistic for a classic minimalist look. AKA- I wish these were women’s clothes because I so dig his style. He keeps men looking stylish and comfortable, believing “form and function should be one, joined in a spiritual union.” {and I don’t know any man who would disagree} It was a real treat to see him show on the CHSFW runway and I can definitely draw inspiration from his designs for my own wardrobe!

This dress and overall look might be one of my favorites and it’s definitely my new favorite “Friday Night” getup!! I admittedly saw this dress on Stassi Schroder’s Instagram and knew I had to have it! It was sold out in the U.S. so I had to track it down to a little boutique in Australia. It’s of course, made by one of those Australian lines that I love so much- Finders Keepers. With the on trend gingham and the blue & black combo, this was the perfect dress for a night at Charleston Fashion Week!

Friday night was the Gwynn’s show at CHSFW, so I carried this absolutely FABULOUS Jimmy Choo bag, courtesy of Gwynn’s. I loved how the gunmetal metallics went perfectly with my jewelry! It was fun for me to branch out and wear a little bit of silver, when I’m typically a gold girl.

CFW N4 2015-1796 CFW N4 2015-1804 CFW N4 2015-1811

Since I was seeing the same people over and over last week, I knew I would need to switch up my hair and makeup a bit. So, for Friday night I jazzed things up big time and went for a bold smoky eye!! I used this tutorial and my Too Faced Pretty Rebel pallet to get this sultry look. Since that was so dark, I stuck to a neutral matte lip with a lipstick by Trish McEvoy from Gwynn’s.

CFW N4 2015-1815CFW N4 2015-1850

I know y’all are probably sick of seeing me wearing these shoes, but my Stuart Weitzman nudists from Bob Ellis were really the perfect CHSFW shoe!! Not only do they look great with everything and make my legs look deceivingly longer than they actually are, but they aren’t easily ruined therefore perfect for trudging through the Marion Square dirt and muck!

What’s the best thing to make any girl feel fancy on a Friday night?! Diamonds, of course!! I was lucky enough to get to don some gorgeous jewels by Theodosia this week and this night was for sure my favorite! This beautiful art deco style ring was the topic of conversation all night! The earrings went perfectly too, so I showed them off by pulling one part of my hair to the side. This dress is definitely going to be a repeat offender!!

CHSFW 2015: Day 3 Outfit

untitled-0038untitled-0037

It never fails that at least one night of Charleston Fashion Week, it’s got to be rainy and gross! But, just because you’re walking around below sea level in dirty muck doesn’t mean that you can get away with wearing something practical! Everyone still brings their best fashion game to the table, even on a rainy evening. Fortunately, the downpour wasn’t too crazy and actually made for some super cool street shots that are perfect for this urban chic look.

untitled-0033untitled-0070

Lately, I’ve been really into the midi length style skirts. I think it’s the older I get, the more conservative I get, so these are what I’m truly comfortable in. I could never go out in public in some of the short and tight skirts I used to wear! {here’s looking at you Herve Leger dresses} I feel so much classier and confident in pieces that are less revealing- that’s not to say I don’t love a little plunging neckline or super low back every once in a while, but there’s a time and place for everything! This skirt by Milly courtesy of Finicky Filly was perfect for fashion week! The colorful print makes it a stand out piece and the meshy style material is super on trend. The crop top, also Milly courtesy of Finicky Filly, is anything but basic with unique cutouts that show just the right amount of skin.

untitled-0069untitled-0090untitled-0131untitled-0097

I loved accessorizing this look with fun jewelry courtesy of Moon and Lola! The gold chain necklace goes perfectly with the city chic look I was going for, and really could go with just about anything. I kept my earrings simple, but interesting, with a little gold and rhinestone stud in the shape of what I consider to be a super hero “pow” sign. Hope that makes total sense to someone other than me! The real highlight of my accessories though, was the hot pink Melrose ring that I wore! I’m obsessed with all of the matte ball jewelry at Moon and Lola! They’ve got the 360 studs in this style too- love! It makes such a statement, but without being too overpowering.

untitled-0028untitled-0103

With the nasty weather and mucky Marion Square, I didn’t have too many options when it came to shoes. So, my simple black Stuart Weitzman’s, that aren’t easily ruined, did the trick! These have really been one of the best purchases- which you’ll see after I wear them the next 3 nights to CHSFW! I didn’t mean to be a shoe repeater, but they’re just so versatile and chic with everything! For my bag, I kept that simple as well with my black YSL mini. This was such a great look for Charleston Fashion Week, or any other stylish event you might be attending! Even though I was too exhausted to make it to any of the after parties each night, it would also make a great sassy getup for a girl’s night out!

Mosaic

IMG_6747 IMG_6762 IMG_6767

I hadn’t heard of this Lake City boutique, located about an hour outside of Charleston, until a chance encounter with owner, Leah Norwood, at the NYFW Nicole Miller show. Upon hearing about her store and the high end brands she carries, I quickly learned that small town didn’t mean small time! On night two, Mosaic Clothing made their Charleston Fashion Week debut and the show did not disappoint! They started out with airy bright whites- perfect for your spring travels.

IMG_6783

Can we talk about this killer Mara Hoffman suit?! Seriously considering this one for my own summer wardrobe! Does this not scream Miami?! And the models braid!!! The entire look is just killer!!

IMG_6827 IMG_6835 IMG_6883

Mosaic then took things in an edgy/boho direction with fringe layered over bold graphic prints. I especially love this last look! It looks effortless styled with black gladiators, but could easily be dressed up with a pair of black heels.

IMG_6900

The last look was my absolute favorite of the night and definitely one of my top from the week! They took a super on trend high waisted black two piece and “Almost Famoused” it up with a shag throw situation, fabulous fringed heels and THAT HAIR!! I was in absolute 70’s heaven when she came down that runway!! Mosaic Clothing killed it with their first ever CHSFW show and I’m now officially dying to get in their store {and to explore Lake City}.

Ike Behar

IMG_6921 IMG_6992

Ike Behar, aka every Charleston prepster boy’s dream, came back for it’s second Charleston Fashion Week! The Miami based company has a store locally here on King St. that is run by local men’s fashion expert, Taylor Eubanks. He styled this show to perfection, combining classic menswear staples with innovative and fresh concepts. I really enjoyed his use of their ties as belts; the pattern play in the first look with the “belt” and jacket was fabulous!!IMG_7020 IMG_7047 IMG_7075

Ike absolutely killed the hat game on the runway!! The models had this swagger about them that definitely had something to do with their perfectly tailored jackets and sassy hats!

IMG_7117

What would a menswear runway show be without a tux?! Ike did formal wear perfectly in my favorite tux jacket color, navy. Bonus: there was a man bun involved!!

Annina King

IMG_7335 IMG_7367 It’s no surprise that Annina King uses the words “feminine and strong” to describe herself, because that’s exactly what I would also say about her Fall 2015 Ready to Wear collection. The emerging designer says she uses influence from nature, “everything from a bare winter branch to storm skies and trees,” to inspire her designs. It was definitely a very wearable collection, with fits that would flatter women of any shape or size!

Elyssa Wingard

IMG_7437 IMG_7461 IMG_7474 IMG_7499 IMG_7537

Lowcountry native, Elyssa Wingard, was by far my favorite of the evening!! It wasn’t just me either because she went on to be People’s Choice winner in the Emerging Designer Competition f0r Wednesday night. I loved her bright and fun Resort collection! The prints and colors were so perfect for summers in Charleston and the movement of her gowns was absolutely stunning! The entire crowd gasped when her opening gown came down the runway. Bravo Elyssa!! I can’t’ wait to see what more comes from this Charleston girl!!

Julia Le & Sean Mueller

IMG_7576 IMG_7598 IMG_7607

This design duo are both still students at North Carolina State University, Julie pursuing a degree in fashion and textile management and Sean in studio art. Considering their interest in visual arts, it’s no surprise that they are heavily influenced by Jackson Pollock’s action paintings. Upon seeing the artist’s work in Florence, Italy, the two decided to bring that to the runway. What became was a beautiful collection of flawlessly structured pieces featuring that signature paint splattered look. Julie and Sean have successfully combined art and fashion in their Fall 2015 collection shown at Charleston Fashion Week, and they haven’t even graduated college! I know these two have a bright future in any arts they decide to pursue!

Gloria Forehand
IMG_7674 IMG_7693 IMG_7756 IMG_7773

Gloria Forehand not only wound up winning the Wednesday night portion of the Emerging Designer Competiton, but also went on to win the whole shebang!! No surprise that this designer comes to Charleston Fashion Week from NYC with a degree from F.I.T. Gloria has lived in the U.S. since she was 21, however, it was her Korean roots that inspired this collection. The quality of her work is undeniable and I definitely think that her gowns are red carpet worthy!! Fern Mallis even mentioned she could picture her working for someone such as Carolina Herrera- which has to be a huge honor for an emerging designer!

Christian Caldwell   IMG_7837 IMG_7854 IMG_7882

Christian designs specifically for the real life woman- one who isn’t afraid to have fun with fashion, but also wants it to be comfortable, functional and affordable! Anyone else love hearing about designers like this?! I loved all of her stand out pieces and could definitely see myself wearing most of her collection!

Harbison
IMG_7898 IMG_7917 IMG_7937 IMG_7945 IMG_7961 IMG_7970 IMG_8024 IMG_8040

The Harbison show is quite possibly the highlight of Charleston Fashion Week for me!! Not only did he dress BEYONCE for the Kanye West x Adidas show at NYFW, but Queen Bey’s got it right- his designs are out of this world!! Bonus: he’s also superrr nice and down to earth! I love how his collection perfectly embodies the strong and feminine of the women. His more structured and color blocked pieces {looking at you Beyonce coat} really stand for that strength. Then, the more flowy fabrics with ruffled edges and in soft colors, really show the more feminine side of a woman. The show was just absolutely flawless and I’m officially dying for some Harbison in my life!! He’s definitely going to go far and fast!!

CHSFW 2015: Day 2 Outfit

APD_3383-XL APD_3387-XL

I’m SO excited to share with y’all one of my most favorite looks to date!! This is the outfit I wore for the second night of Charleston Fashion Week. In typical Charleston fashion, the weather was 85 on Tuesday and 55 on Wednesday, so this was perfect to withstand the cooler temps! This AMAZING romper I’m wearing is Annie Griffin Collection, courtesy of Finicky Filly. I’m obsessed with the print and colors!! This style of romper is a great way to transition to spring on those chilly nights.

Considering my feet were killing me from wearing heels the entire day before and the weather, I paired this up with my Sam Edelman thigh high boots. (that I scored for $60 at Saks Off 5th) The thigh high and shorts combo is a huge trend for spring and after seeing Vanessa Hudgens rock it, I knew I had to try; and what better time than CHSFW?! I got a few crazy stares when I told people I was going to wear thigh highs and a romper, but I got a ton of compliments!! Plus, I loved the look and that’s all that really matters, right?APD_3404-XL APD_340-XL

To throw in a little pattern play, because I loveee me some pattern play, I carried my Clare V. leopard print clutch. These patterns are seriously HEAVEN together!! Sorry if I’m gloating guys, but I just really was happy with this get up!!

I accessorized with a fabulous gold chain statement necklace courtesy of Moon and Lola. This is a must have necklace for any woman and any style! You can literally put it on with just about anything and it just takes your whole outfit up a notch! I kept the rest of my jewelry simple with Moon and Lola dainty midi rings and these understated, but super cool, earrings. I actually wish I could wear this outfit everyday of my life!! I’m not sure how i’ll top this one, but keep reading all week to see more of my looks from Charleston Fashion Week!!

CHSFW 2015: Day 1 Runway Review

CFW-2015-BakerMotorFINAL-Logo

Charleston Fashion Week is always the perfect kick off to my favorite time of year, Spring!! The weather is just starting to warm up, so everyone is in great spirits and able to have fun with their style after a long winter. Another thing I love about CHSFW, unlike NYFW, we’re also watching a lot of spring styles come down the runway. It’s exciting to see pieces that you can buy and wear now! I really enjoy seeing all of the local retailers that I work with on a daily basis show on the runway. Plus, it’s great that if I see something I have to have I can just go grab it! The emerging designers always present such innovative collections and really put up a tough fight for the Emerging Designer Competition. I love seeing such fresh talent coming and getting their chance to shine here in Charleston. But, my favorite part of the show is always the featured designers and boy did they line up some good ones this year! All this week, I’ll be sharing with y’all my outfits and runway reviews from each night. Thanks to Side Yard Studios I’ve got some amazing runway shots for y’all! Today we’re kicking things off with an awesome first night featuring Bits of Lace outfitted in Croghan’s Jewel Box and Shoes on King, Trés Carmen Boutique, 4 fabulous emerging designers and 2 CFW alumni, Anna Toth and Charleston natives Leah & Rebecca Plante. It was one hell of a first night to say the least!!

Bits of Lace – wearing Croghan’s Jewel Box & Shoes on King

IMG_5341IMG_5385

You may have found me over on Bits of Lace’s Instagram on Tuesday for a little takeover!! I was so thrilled to do it because they show every year and it’s always beautiful, so I knew this year wouldn’t disappoint. I absolutely loved all of the fun bright colors they showed! It kept things sassy and youthful, but still elegant with the beautiful lace. It looks like the high waisted trend is also here to stay! I’m personally a huge fan of this as it’s so flattering to almost any figure. That’s also going to be a big swimsuit trend again this year!

IMG_5310IMG_5462

Color is so much fun, but your classic black and neutral lace will always be in style! I love this barely blush pink set that actually opened the show. It’s so feminine and romantic, sure to make you feel absolutely beautiful! Then there’s this classic black lace look that closed the show, but it’s far from traditional. The pattern of the lace and the cut of the bottoms give a fresh update to the go-to style. These were both so stunning styled with the long robes. Such a dramatic look! I’m seriously contemplating moving to Paris, walking around my beautiful loft like this all of the time and sipping champagne all day- because that’s actually what these looks make me want to do!

IMG_5408IMG_5419

Okay ladies, you didn’t think they’d leave us hanging without any eye candy, did you? Buff boys strutted the runway in Saxx underwear. I can vouch for these as the softest undies i’ve ever felt! Why can’t they make girl boxers?! They’ve also got some pretty sweet prints to choose from!

IMG_5349 IMG_5360

Bits of Lace carries a little something for everyone, so of course, they had to get some adorable kiddos on the runway! These PJ’s from BedHead are so stinking cute!! Who says you have to succumb to the character pajamas?!

IMG_5442IMG_5427

Beautiful women’s lingerie, men’s comfiest undies eva and adorable kid’s pi’s – what else could they have, right? Swimwear, that’s what! I love this whole one piece look- another comeback swimwear trend. And those shoes with it!! Bits of Lace keeps it simple and classy with their swimwear, making it the perfect stop for women all over the spectrum.

Trés Carmen Boutique

IMG_5656IMG_5550

Trés Carmen is one of my favorite local boutiques! They carry a great combination of classic southern styles and fashion forward pieces with a little boho chic thrown in- basically they’re exactly my style. Their opening night show had everyone under the tents craving a Miami vacation in the sun! Can you not see yourself lounging on a yacht in these two looks? I’m obsessed!!

IMG_5493 IMG_5639

These two looks were styled by yours truly for a recent photo shoot I worked on with Trés Carmen! This BCBG jumpsuit is an absolute stunner! I also love the high neck navy dress. My preggo friend and fellow blogger actually wore it last night to CHSFW and looked fab! These were the perfect looks to pair with fun colored GiGi clutches- I think y’all know by now my love for those!

IMG_5529

Bitch stole mah look!!! This is the BCBG dress I wore for opening night!! LOVE it for daytime with this big floppy hat though!!

Amanda Dreeson

IMG_5801 IMG_5872 IMG_5880

North Carolina native, Amanda Dreeson started the Emerging Designer part of the night off with a bang! With models wearing ram’s horn head pieces and her inspiration coming from fantastical character’s, this was a show that captivated viewers. She specifically used the movie Pan’s Labyrinth as her muse for this collection. Incorporating several different textures from sequins and tulle to faux leather and fur, every piece was fit for a fairytale!

Hazel Cole by Sarah Hazel Cannon & Rachel Cole Cannon

IMG_5719 IMG_5727 IMG_5767

This sister duo coming from Raleigh, North Carolina absolutely killed their debut on the CHSFW runway! Their use of a grayscale color scheme was so elegant and anything but boring. I loved how they implemented fun faux fur accessories- really taking these back to an old school Russian vibe. But, the real stunner was the finale gown- holy cow!! This was something fit for a Hollywood red carpet! I could totally see someone like Blake Lively or Naomi Watts rocking this number! It’s no surprise that these 2 young designers were the People’s Choice winner for the night!

Johanna Hickey & Orea Guthrie

IMG_5997IMG_5988IMG_6014

These two ladies from Savannah aren’t just interested in creating a beautiful collection; they also want to make it sustainably. They’re passionate about all of their methods being ethically and environmentally sound. They stay true to this by using exclusively natural fibers and placing a special emphasis on craft. So, not only can you feel great about how you look, but you can also feel great about how the product was made! I love their use of on trend printed graphics. The skirt and top look is my favorite and is impeccably styled with the tights, sneakers and coral lip!

Richelle ValenzuelaIMG_5900 IMG_5920 IMG_5956
Now, onto the man of the night- Richelle Valenzuela, who will be moving on to the finals for the Emerging Designer Competition on Saturday night!  If you can’t tell from the quality of his work and the modern style, he is showing in Charleston all the way from New York. The pieces were impeccably tailored and beautifully structured. And like, can I get one of those navy studded jackets please?!

Bow + Arrow by Anna Toth

IMG_6056 IMG_6118 IMG_6131

Featured designer, Anna Toth, is no stranger to Charleston Fashion Week. She was the co-winner {alongside Plante Clothing} in last year’s Emerging Designer Competition and People’s Choice winner. This year she came back to show us what she’s been up to this last year and Bow + Arrow did not disappoint. The fellow South Carolina girl uses all American cotton to create her line of sustainable clothing. She truly caters to the All American girl and brought that out in on jumpsuits and gingham!

Plante Clothing by Leah and Rebecca Plante

IMG_6237 IMG_6249 IMG_6291 IMG_6329

What’s the perfect finale to an opening night of fashion week?! A Plante sister’s show!! These Charleston natives never disappoint in a beautiful show and collection! With models wearing their signature floral crowns, which y’all know I love, every look was beautiful coming down the runway. The sisters make great use of soft, flowy fabrics to create simple, but flirty and feminine looks! I would literally wear everything they showed!
