New Leaf

Ever since Charleston Fashion Week, I’ve been in a bit of a slump- blogging, fashion and just life in general! It’s rough being an almost 25 year old female, am I right?! As frustrating as weeks like this can be, I truly believe they’re essential to recharge your energy and inspiration. Fortunately, we were able to get away for a long weekend at the beach and I’m feeling refreshed! Plus, I’ve also got a new official photog- Katie Capo of Catherine Ann Photography– and what better way to turn over a new leaf than with some fab new blog photos?! Seriously y’all, she’s so awesome! If you need some new Pinterest Wedding board inspo, definitely head over to her site! I’ve got several fun and festive spring looks coming for y’all, but considering I like to keep it real here on SMC, I figured it was only right to share what I’ve been living in these past few grouchy weeks. When I say living, I literally mean living. As in, I’ve considered purchasing 3 of everything seen here just so I don’t have to wash them so often. Yes, it’s become a problem! But, this laid back look isn’t near as lazy or boring as it could be {lookin’ at you yoga pants}.

My go to print will forever be black and white stripes. I always feel comfortable and confident in this classic style and it truly works with just about anything. Since it’s such a polished look, I paired this top with my number 1 pair of distressed denim shorts. I snagged these Lovers and Friends babes at a II Brunettes end of the season sale and they are the best denim shorts I’ve ever owned! The fit, wash, length, hole placement- everything is on point! Plus, even when they aren’t on sale, they won’t break the bank.

I could’ve just thrown on a pair of flip flops and called it a day, but this is Southern Meets Chic and I’ve got to throw in a trendy twist. In comes one of my favorite spring trends- sneakers! I’m obsessed with sneakers lately! Not only are they comfy and hide un-pedicured toes, but I put a pair on and instantly feel cooler. The cool factor is especially high when they’re a pair of Stan Smith Adidas- therefore fulfilling all of my middle school nostalgia withdrawals of walking around saying All Day I Dream About Sports {or if you’re naughty Sex}- I can’t be the only one who remembers that!

Throw on my YSL bag and my new $5 Forever sunnies (that you also may recognize from miss TopKnots PolkaDots because we have the same brain) and this is the perfect easy breezy look, fit for any quarter century life crisis!

Autumn in Action

I was so thrilled when Alden Haviland of Rutledge Social invited me to collaborate with Charleston Street Style photographer, Terrence Edwards, on a shoot for Seeking Indigo. Shooting with Terrence and Alden is a fun treat in itself, but I was also excited to learn more about Seeking Indigo. I’ve always known they were on King St. but I never stopped in because I thought it was just a spa. I was SO wrong!! Seeking Indigo is a full service spa, wellness center and perfectly self described “urban oasis,” but before you get to the 4,000 square feet of full on relaxation, there is also a huge retail space! A boutique and a spa, what more could you want? The boutique carries everything from comfy yoga and loungewear to sexy maxi dresses and perfectly fitting skinny jeans. I have to say my favorite goodies they have are their jewelry! Lots of beaded long necklaces in beautiful colors and many with healing properties, I’ll take that! They also carry home decor, most of which is inspired by owner, Kathryn Peter’s, travels to Bali and the likes. Just walking through the front doors of Seeking Indigo automatically gives you a feeling of relaxation, but it’s walking through the doors to the spa that truly starts a beautiful, healing experience. Read more about my spa day with Seeking Indigo tomorrow on SMC (and you’ll of course see a few more of the outfits from my shoot).

This outfit that I’m highlighting today is the perfect autumn attire! The colors just scream fall and the layering is essential for this fickle Charleston weather. All of the fabrics used in the clothing at Seeking Indigo are exceptionally soft and of high quality, but this jacket is probably the softest you’ll ever feel!! I also love how versatile it is because you can roll the sleeves up or down and cinch the waist or leave it baggy. I prefer to cinch it a bit to give it some shape, but leaving it loose can be great when you’ve got bulky sweaters underneath. The rust colored basic tee really pops under the tan jacket and I love the color contrast! This could easily be kept super casual by throwing on a pair of Converse or flats, but I wanted to jazz things up a bit so I wore these great lace up heels! (now 40% off in link below) Then, I added the two statement tassel necklaces (with healing properties-yay!) and that gorgeous metallic clutch! By adding those fun accessories to a typically casual outfit this makes a great fall date night get up!

Let me begin by saying, i’ve never been a military inspired fashion kinda gal, until I met this jacket. It’s even opened my eyes to the point where I actually purchased a pair of CAMO pants yesterday!! My husband is thrilled because he’s been trying to get me on board with this for years. This jacket has quickly become my most worn jacket of the season. It is so easy to throw on with practically anything and is just so fall. However, my favorite thing to wear it with is black and white stripes. I have several tops like this, but this is my only tank, which is perfect for this back and forth 80 to 60 degrees weather. I then threw on a pair of dark denim skinnies, rolled at the bottom of course. I could have worn my converse or flip flops with this, but since the outfit was already SO casual I went for my suede booties with a bit of a heel. These keep the look a bit more polished {read: not so homeless}. To accessorize I wore my everyday bangles and LV bag. This is the best outfit for running around doing errands and being comfy, but you won’t be afraid to run into someone you know! Can’t wait to share my camo pants with y’all!! Have an amazing weekend everyone!!

Today is one of my favorite posts yet! It may not be the most on trend fashionable outfit, but it’s a glimpse into a day in my real life and what I would be wearing for a bike ride in the park. Okay, so I MAY not always bike around with flowers in my basket, but I am a fresh flowers freak so you never know! The amazing pictures are again courtesy of Carissa Cady Photography. First, let me tell you about my baby, my bike! I absolutely LOVE her!! When I pictured myself having a beach cruiser for the first time years ago, this is exactly what I had in mind. The guys at Affordabike were so knowledgable and most importantly patient with me. I wanted specific colors for the bike, seat, handlebars, basket etc, it was all about the look for me, something that guys who work at a bike shop don’t really identify with. But, they were so nice and made sure I had my bike just the way I wanted it. Not to mention they have the most precious pit bull as their shop dog. Unfortunately, they wouldn’t let me take her home! I rode my bike home that day and the rest is history!! One of my favorite places to ride, and really just to go to in general, is Hampton Park. Up until last Friday, we lived only a block away and even just writing this post is making me a bit emotional about not being right there anymore. If you live in Charleston and haven’t been to Hampton Park, you’ve GOT to do something about it! It’s the perfect spot for a picnic, exercising or letting the dogs run around. As for my outfit, this is a pretty basic look that I feel any of you could put together. I do really love the colors of this shirt and the back button details. The white pants make the look super bright and cheery, perfect for a Spring or Summer day! The sandals are one of only two purchases {both shoes} that I made on my honeymoon in Italy. Overall, this is a pretty basic look that is easy to put together, but still adorable nonetheless.

Happy Friday everyone!! You’ve made it through the week, so why not celebrate with hot pink loafers and a casual look that will take you all through the weekend?! Disclaimer- everything I am wearing except the loafers is from TARGET! Some of you may love this and others may shake your head in disgust. For those head shakers, we just cannot be friends because Target is probably the best thing that ever happened to me (besides my husband, of course-hehe). This is a super cute laid back outfit to take you errand running (aka spending hours in Target), on a casual lunch date, or if you’re a mommy doing fun weekend stuff with the kids. Jean shirt and white shorts by itself- it’s been done, it’s pretty plain. But, add some pops of pink and you’ve instantly taken your outfit to sassy and fun! I absolutely love wearing a necklace {yes, that’s Target too} over a collar like this! It takes an otherwise simple neckline up a notch making the collar your blank canvas to jazz up however you like. Now, onto the loafers!! When we were on our honeymoon in Italy, Todd got a pair of bright blue loafers and I fell in love! So, when I saw these Manolos on sale-in Charleston-in this color-and my size was the last left-I knew it was FATE!! Now granted, I never expected my first pair of Manolos to be a pair of flats, much less loafers, but I love them! I’m not sure whether Carrie Bradshaw would be proud or she would be a head shaker right now too? Oh well! Loafers are the must have comfort shoe of the year! They effortlessly take you from season to season and are easy to throw on with practically any attire. So, put away those Tory Burch Reva flats and try out something a little more daring from the menswear world- I promise you will not be disappointed in the loafer!

While I am always into trying new trends and making statements with fashion, I also have a signature style, so to speak. I think everyone has this {lately for most girls it’s a Piko top and leggings} but it is something you can easily throw on and feel comfortable and confident wearing anytime. For me this style is “vanilla.” Being the only brunette in my high school trio of besties, my girly blonde friends gave me this title. I always gravitated towards loose, flowy fabrics in neutrals, pastels and soft colors. Still to this day, I get text messages from them saying “I found something SO vanilla for you at Anthro!” and it never fails to put a big smile on my face. I have branched out since my high school days, but if I can’t find anything to wear, vanilla is the route I take. This outfit is the epitome of a “Brittany Vanilla Look.” These slouchy pants are the softest fabric ever and such a beautiful nude color. A pair of these are a must have in your closet for Spring because of their versatility and comfort! I wore it with this blouse that is one of my favorite colors and perfect for a nice Spring afternoon. Since it was such a relaxed, casual look I wanted to jazz it up a bit in the shoe area so I wore these amazing strappy wedges. These hotties will give you the look of a heel, but the comfort of a flat!! With such a simple vibe, I had to take things up a notch in the accessories department. Anyone who knows me, knows- ya girl LOVES a headband or head wrap! I literally have about a million and my collection just continues to grow! One like this could be worn as pictured or across the forehead, but for today and my {rare} straight hair I decided to keep it back on my head. I stuck with my new favorite simple go to necklace that is just a dainty little gold bar, but in it’s simplicity it is also so chic. My new favorite fashion vice {other than headbands} are Bourbon and Boweties bangles. O-M-G!!! I had always seen them, but never took the plunge until a trunk show at one of my favorite boutiques, Trés Carmen, and now I.can’t.stop! I want them all!! Not to mention their owner Carley is an absolute sweetheart; you gotta love supporting young women in business! They have a wide variety of colors and stones and you are bound to find one {or 10} you love. I started with a very vanilla mix of ambers, browns and blush pinks, but have since branched out a bit and have quite the nice little stash going. So now that you know my signature style, what is your go-to outfit that you feel your best in?!

B is for Brittany

B is for Brittany and C is for Casual! I’m keeping it super casual on this lazy Saturday before next week’s dressed up, red and pink filled Valentines themed posts. But, you can do laid back and lazy without UGG boots and sweatpants involving words on your bum. This look is comfortable and casual but still manages to look polished and put together. The sweatshirt was a find on the clearance rack at Old Navy and has become my best friend for days when I have to go out in public, but truly don’t even feel like getting out of bed. The “built in necklace” as I like to call it is EVERYTHING! Just that little bit of bling makes all the difference. This top can even be taken from day to night by adding a pair of leather pants and heels. Voilá, you’ve got a super comfy dinner and drinks outfit! I paired it with a pair of “legging pants” that are also one of my wear again and again items and my chambray Converse. I am not often a tennis shoes kind of girl, but these have somewhat swayed my view. The chambray really takes them to the next level and to me makes them a little dressier (well, as dressy as a tennis shoe can be.) The color can practically be worn with anything and brings a bit of playfulness to any outfit. Not to mention they are way comfy! So, next time you go reaching for that workout outfit that you have no intentions of putting to use that day or the go-to yoga pants with your ex boyfriend’s old frat t-shirt, think of what you can put together that is comfortable while still staying chic!
