Black Bootie Dilemma 2014

I know, I know “black bootie dilemma” is a bit dramatic, but if you’ve been on the market for a pair, then you feel my pain! First of all, I’m a little picky when it comes to black and especially black leather. There’s just always been something about it that screams “BIKER CHICK” and as much as I love Sons of Anarchy, (so sad about tomorrow night) I don’t particularly want to dress like a cast member. Then, there’s the fact that every time I fall in love with a pair, the price tag quickly crushes all of my dreams. So, assuming that I’m not the only girl on the face of the earth having these issues, I thought a little Real vs. Steal black bootie edition would be the perfect way to kick off the week! (see what I did there)

The Everyday Suede Bootie:

I’m pretty sure that this is THE ONE for me! This style can go with everything from jeans and a sweater to tights and a nice dress. The mid-height heel keeps them comfortable, but still tall enough to give your legs a little Kendall Jenner effect. BONUS: they’re suede, so that rules out any biker babe confusion.

The Flat Bootie:

This minimalist chic style is for the girl who wants the look, but without the bother of a heel. These are so on-trend when paired with black leather skinnies or rolled up dark denim. Also, try replacing your classic ballet flats with these to take any outfit up a notch!

The Hot Heeled Bootie:

The sky high leather bootie is the best choice for any party girl! These are the ideal booties to dress up and wear out. The thin heel and pointed toe make this a dressier option and while not as practical as the first two, will definitely make you stand out in a crowd. This is a perfect replacement for black pumps in freezing temps.

Effortlessly Chic

This laid back look truly embodies everything that is my everyday wear. I live for {and in} comfy skinnies, a cute top & a pair of booties. It is what I feel my best and most comfortable in. The effortless look is really where it’s at and with a few little details can be so chic! I have had this top for a while, but just hadn’t made it a number one priority on my long list of outfits to wear. However, after seeing how huge the metallic trend was on the Oscar’s Red Carpet Sunday night I knew I HAD to wear it right away! A-listers like Angelina Jolie, Cate Blanchett and Kate Hudson (one of my personal best dressed’s of the night) were all wearing some hue of a shiny, glamorous metallic. But, who says the trend has to be saved for black tie events like the Academy Awards? This top is casual metallic heaven!! It feels like you’re wearing a t-shirt with the grey cotton that has a hint of glitter to it, but it is the faux leather rose gold sleeves that really MAKE the top. I also love the black collar lining. It is something so simple, but it just wouldn’t be as good without it. I wore it with my favorite “legging pants” as I like to call them. A simple cuff at the bottom instantly makes these stylish! LADIES- DO NOT TUCK YOUR PANTS INTO BOOTIES IF THE LEGS ARE GOING TO BE BUNCHY!!!! This is {clearly} a huge pet peeve of mine, and it just does not look good. Give your skinnies & booties the polished look by either cuffing them once or doing a tiny roll a couple of times. These happen to be my favorite booties of all time and they really look fabulous with anything and everything. It doesn’t hurt that they give you the comfort of a flat, but the confidence of a heel. Since I was going for the less is more appearance, I kept my accessories to a major minimum. The bracelet I am wearing is actually a necklace, but works great as both and has all sorts of wonderful metallic colors in there that really compliment my outfit. Finally, one of the most important factors with such a low key outfit is that {unless you’re just running to Target} you’ve got to have your hair/makeup looking fabulous! You can still give your hair that tousled bed head look, but make sure it isn’t REALLY bed head. I love a bold smoky eye with this because it really plays up such a simple outfit. This is a hot look that can be worn in the daytime or perfect for dinner or a night out! No matter where it is worn, you will look so chic and like you didn’t even try!

My Objection to Mr. Groundhog

So apparently Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow on Sunday, supposedly bringing us six more weeks of winter weather!! However, the 75 degree weather here in Charleston begs to differ. And I refuse to surrender another six weeks of my wardrobe to the cold temps! An easy way to transition to Spring {while only in the first week of February} is a pair of leather shorts. Sure, they’re shorts, but they’re LEATHER- for winter hellooo. These will become a staple in your closet during any season because they are SO versatile. They can be worn with basically any style top from a dressy blouse to a casual sweater and will look great dressed up with heels and booties or dressed down with flats and even a pair of Converse. The sweatshirt style top I paired with the leather shorts is very on trend as floral was huge on the Spring 2014 runways for designers like Elie Saab and Oscar de la Renta. Floral is also very easy to implement into your wardrobe. You can tone it down by wearing soft, romantic styles or make it super trendy by pairing a bold style with another pattern, such as stripes. I pulled in a bit of the pattern mixing with the black and white bracelet, but you can really take it to the next level with a black and white stripe skinny jean or skirt. With this look I decided to go right in the middle of safe and sassy and wear a funky floral with the leather shorts and then top it off with a contrasting color cognac bootie. Booties have been an essential in my Winter wardrobe and are not going anywhere anytime soon! This suede open-toed bootie is also a great piece to transition into Spring. Now, let’s just keep our fingers crossed the weather cooperates and we can prove that meteorologist groundhog wrong!
