Back in Action

southern-blogger-5

It’s no news to y’all that SMC has been pretty bare all summer, and I’m so excited to announce that I’m officially back to blogging for good! But, I also feel the need to share with y’all a little bit of the story behind my break.

I started my blog a year and a half ago because I wasn’t feeling fulfilled in the “house wife life.” As much as I love my man, I felt that I was meant to do more and be more. In the time since I started blogging, I’ve gotten married to my husband, moved to a new house (and just found out we’re having to move again #rentallife), been given lots of opportunities in the fashion industry- including becoming the Charleston editor of Carolina STYLE Magazine, had my husband’s daughter and her 2 children move in with us, travelled to 6 different states & 8 countries, and went through a total hair makeover (enter the year of the ombré LOB). Sounds like a pretty great year and a half- am I right?! Or at least it should have been! But, instead of being able to fully enjoy all of the amazing things taking place in my life, I was constantly battling my own self and the strive for perfection.

Perfectionism is something that was instilled in me from a very young age. My mother didn’t mean any harm and always only wanted the best for me, but she also expected me to behave a certain way. Being the little people pleaser I was/am, I attempted to always exceed expectations. As I got older, these behavioral expectations from my mother evolved into me placing a high standard for myself in anything and everything I was doing. Then, in comes the teenage years and I was hit with the dreaded INSECURITIES that all of us women go through. Seriously though, are those not the worst?! I rebelled from my perfectionist ways and decided to give the opposite a try- doing everything I knew wasn’t right. This didn’t work either and just gave me more to beat myself up about later on in life. As if I needed anymore of that!! So finally, here I was in what seemed to be the perfect life, but something still wasn’t right. In fact, I could hear that inner battle even stronger than before. It goes a little something like this- “you aren’t good enough,” “you don’t deserve this,” “you aren’t pretty enough,” “you aren’t skinny enough,” “you just aren’t PERFECT enough”… sound familiar?!

southern-blogger-1

As women especially, we torture ourselves to try to meet these insane standards that society {and ourselves} has brainwashed us with. Whether it’s about your looks, career goals, being a great mom- we strive for this perfection that will never be attained. Because the reality is nobody is perfect- not me, not you, not Kendall Jenner & GiGi Hadid- nobody! We all have flaws and that is what makes us the special people that we are. I know we grow up hearing cliché phrases like this all of our lives, but it’s taken me a really long road to be able to say the words and truly mean them. In this war against myself, I’ve thrown away countless opportunities, strained relationships, wounded friendships and really just beat myself down. There were days this summer that I didn’t even want to get out of bed, and I didn’t. It was a really low time for me, but I feel like I had to get down to the darkest place to be able to make sense of all of this for my future.

This isn’t something that is easy for me to share (because ghasp! no perfectionist wants other people to know they’re not perfect!) and even writing this now I’m toying with the idea of just publishing an outfit post and pretending that my hiatus never happened. But, not only is this essential for me to move forward, but I felt the urge to share my experience with y’all. I have yet to perfect this whole “not being a perfectionist” thing, and I’m not here to give out advice on how to change your mindset, because I feel that’s going to be a different path for everyone. What I am here to do is let you know that you aren’t alone in these feelings. I know this is something that almost every single female goes through, whether it’s at 12 or 25 or 65, we all doubt ourselves and get down on ourselves at some point in life. And if me sharing my story helps to make even one person feel better and to know that they aren’t alone in their insecurities, then this post will be totally worth it. I know that as fashion bloggers we are constantly giving y’all the best version of ourselves, but the reality is we’re insanely flawed too! I don’t ever want anyone to look at my blog and get down on themselves or think that I am this perfect person. Southern Meets Chic is meant to inspire you to be YOU- whoever that may be!! This is a platform to empower women and for me to encourage you be the best version of yourself- flaws included!!

This summer has given me the necessary time to reflect and rejuvenate myself. I’m SO excited to be back to blogging and I’ve got so much fun stuff I’m excited to share with y’all! I know in the past SMC has been all about fashion, but I’m going to be bringing in more and more lifestyle posts as well. I would love to hear what kind of topics y’all are interested in!! Check back tomorrow morning for my first outfit post back- i’m kinda obsessed with the look! Also, be sure to follow me on social media [hit social above for links] as we head to SPAIN for my 25th birthday on Wednesday!! (insert 400 salsa betch emojis) Lastly, thank y’all for continuing to read, especially this rambling emotional post- although I wish these feelings on nobody, I do hope my words will help someone somewhere. XO

Classic B + W

DSC_0446

Yesterday was the first day of Charleston Fashion Week and for those of you who aren’t familiar, it’s quite a big to do!! I’ll be bringing y’all my looks from each night of shows and full runway reviews each day. But, to start off the week, I’m sharing with y’all my outfit for the first official event under the tents in Marion Square, the Gwynn’s Raise the Runway Brunch to benefit MUSC Children’s Hospital. This is such a lovely event for such a great cause and I wanted to wear something equally as lovely!

DSC_0449DSC_0462

What could be more lovely than a classic black and white look with a pop of pretty florals?! Yeah, pretty much nothing! I love how simply chic this outfit is!! I felt confident and fashion forward but understated all at the same time. This is an outfit that you can look back on 50 years from now and still think it’s stylish! I think it’s perfect for a daytime event like this- here’s looking at all you 20 somethings with a million bridal and baby showers to attend this spring!!

DSC_0463

Not only did Gwynn’s hook me up with seats for my hubby and I at this amazing event, but they also made sure I was looking Charleston Fashion Week ready with a fabulous makeup application by Brittany!! (not me Brittany obvi) Gwynn’s only carries absolute top of the line products like Trish McEvoy and Laura Mercier, so I knew it would be beautifully done but I had no idea how much fun she would have with it. Since it was St. Patty’s day and all, she gave me a little pop of color with GREEN eyeliner. Yep, you read that right. I’m normally not a colored eye makeup kinda gal, but I absolutely loved this look! It was super subtle, but definitely kept me pinch proof all day! She also did an amazing job with my base makeup (which I’m super picky about) and it lasted me all the way through brunch and the evening of shows and after parties! Basically, they made me feel super pretty- thanks Gwynn’s!!

DSC_0447DSC_0495

As much as I love the clean and classic look of black and white, it is spring and it is fashion week, so I couldn’t just leave it at that!! This was the perfect blank palette to take my new Ted Baker bag for a spin, and it just so happens to come from Gwynn’s so I loved being able to rep them at their own event! Have I told y’all about my recent Ted Baker obsession? It’s been going on for about a year now and I just love everything he puts out! I think I’m just really into all of the U.K. and Aussie brands lately- they know what they’re doing!!

DSC_0456DSC_0499

Just in time for Charleston Fashion Week, I finally took the plunge and made a nice midi ring purchase from Moon and Lola!! I’ve had several before, but they were cheapies and turned color pretty quickly. These are the perfect everyday delicate pieces! A couple of midi rings are a great way for people like me, who don’t love to over accessorize, to still feel like they have something on without being way over the top.

DSC_0464 DSC_0501

I just absolutely love this skirt from Trés Carmen Boutique!! Oh, and did I mention it was only $35 dollars!! Is that not a steal?! It’s really a staple skirt to keep in your closet for spring and summer. It could go so many ways and really look flattering on just about anyone! I can’t wait to pair it with a black and white stripe top and my new neon yellow sandals for a little more of a casual look!

DSC_0465DSC_0516

Stay tuned later this afternoon for my outfit from last night and a full runway review from all of the shows!! So excited to share everything with y’all this week!!  XO

Friday Five

1. Zara Spring Shoes– Holy spring shoes jackpot!! I had never shopped Zara shoes before, but they are ON POINT this season!! I ordered 3 pairs this week (you can see my personal picks here, here and here) and not only were they all under $100 but I rush shipped them for only an extra $10 and they came instantly! This is the perfect way to play with spring trends without breaking the bank!

2. New Coffee Spot– I’ve officially found my new favorite away from home work space- Grind & Squeeze, a coffee shop, wine bar and smoothie and juice bar in one!! Um, can you say heaven?! Not only does this one stop shop basically have everything you could ever desire in one location, but they also have the most adorable little backyard patio! In this ridiculously beautiful spring weather I could’ve stayed out there all day!

3. Sabo Skirt– I’m always sketched out by the Facebook ads that pop up with insanely good deals on really cute stuff. But, after my awesome experience with Tobi (the site where you get half off basically every purchase- and no, it’s not a scam) I’ve started clicking more often! Today, I stumbled upon yet another awesome Aussie brand, Sabo Skirt. I have yet to try them but from the looks of it they’ve got some super on trend items for really low prices! I’m kind of obsessed with everything!

4. Brody Jenner’s Girlfriend– Yep, you read that right, but bear with me here! Kaitlynn Carter is a well traveled, educated and absolutely adorable girl with a pretty fabulous fashion sense!! I mean, look at this purple number– so perfect for spring! Well, she has just launched her new blog, Western Wild, last night! It’s got a lot of lifestyle, some travel and fashion- definitely a good one to add to your feed. She’s one to watch!!

5. Aldo Party– This Sunday at Aldo Shoes on King St. I will be hosting a sip and shop event from 6-8 pm! Atendees will receive 15% off during the event, plus giveaways throughout the evening! We will have some delish cupcakes from Cupcake Down South and champs to go with! Plus, I will be on hand to assist you with all your shopping needs- just in time to grab some last minute statement shoes for Charleston Fashion Week!

Feeling Floral

IMG_3455IMG_3376

I don’t think I’ve ever been so ready for spring weather!! Okay, so maybe I say that every year but after ten days in NYC and coming home to equally cold temps this girl is seriously ready for some sunshine!! And boy did we get it this week!! The temps were so high that the mosquitos were actually out- who thought I’d ever be excited to see those pesky things? Along with the warm temps and bugs, comes the change in wardrobe!! I was over the moon to pull out my pastels, florals and sandals for these beautiful spring days we’ve been having and just in time for some amazing spring fashion events! This look was perfect to kick off Charleston Fashion Week season at the Maddison Row and Bella Bridesmaid fashion show at Cannon Green, Wednesday evening.

IMG_3418IMG_3473IMG_3506

This dress is basically everything I want out of a spring go-to: flirty, fun, bright and FLORAL!! Floral is, of course, huge for spring, but this dress by JOA from StyleDwell freshens the recurring trend up with a graphic print. Add in the fact that it has pockets and retails for under $100 and I think you’ve got your number one Easter dress contender (plus, the cut is perfect for getting seconds at your Grandmother’s house on Easter Sunday). I also love that the dress ties in my number one color for spring, allowing me to wear my brand new shoes, light blue. This color is perfect in so many ways. It’s feminine without being girly and trendy without being tacky! I’ve been scooping up all the light blue in sight, so it was only natural that I had to order these badass kitten heels from Zara. I’m not normally a kitten heel kind of gal, but between the color and those adorable little studs, I figured I would give them a try! Plus, at $59 you really can’t say no to trying something new!

IMG_3398IMG_3393IMG_3529

I kept everything else pretty simple with my go-to quilted Kate Spade bag and my new favorite Gorjana earrings from Rocksbox!! UM I literally have not taken them off since I got them in my first Rocksbox!! They will definitely not be getting returned! Did y’all know that you can get your first month of Rocksbox FREE using the code southernmeetschicxoxo?! It’s a pretty awesome little deal and clearly, they send you some pretty fab goodies!

Here are some highlights from the beautiful evening!! Big thanks to Maddison Row and Bella Bridesmaid for a great time!! XO

Friday Five

MKA1. Rocksbox– If you haven’t heard of Rocksbox, well then you must be living under a rock, because the craze the all over social media these days!! Basically, it’s a monthly subscription for jewelry. You pay $19 a month for a stylist to personalize a box of designer jewelry for you each month. You get it in the mail, wear it for a month and then send it back for your next box. Or, don’t send it back and get a great discount on pieces you love!! It’s basically the best monthly subscription I could possibly think of! In my first box, I received pieces from two of my favorites- Gorjana and Loren Hope!! Helllooo fabulousness!! If you like what you hear, sign up here and get your first month ON ME with code southernmeetschicxoxo and tag me to show me what Rocksbox pretties you scored!!

2. Book Suggestion– Loved Gone Girl?! Then, you won’t be able to put down author Gillian Flynn’s debut novel, Sharp Objects. Equally as well written and twisted, this murder mystery will keep you on the edge of your sit (or for me, bathtub) the entire book! Disclaimer: If the extent of your reading is Nicholas Sparks and PLL, then this probs isn’t the thing for you. But, if you like some effed up craziness in your books, then you’re in for a treat!

3. Jessie James Decker– Are you familiar with this Southern diva?! Between being wife to NFL hottie Eric Decker, mommy to a presh baby girl with another on the way AND continuing her passion of country music, this momma is a busy lady!! But, she still found time to help design a fab bikini line with Amore & Sorvente just in time for Spring Break!! A lot of her pieces are super {hot} mommy friendly like this one, but I’ve got my eye on another that will be great on us non-mommas too! My only dilemma is the gingham vs the floral?! Decisions, decisions!! OH and I almost forgot, they come in baby sizes too!! How freaking adorable?!

4. J. Crew Style Guide– For a stylist, this is heaven. Gayle Spannaus and Jenna Lyons killed it with every page in this catalogue. Every look, every detail- flawless!! For a shopper, this is hell, because you will want everything. I’m not sure whether I should apologize or you should thank me?

5. Insta Giveaway– I’ve teamed up with some awesome bloggers to bring y’all another BIG Insta giveaway, like $500 big!! So, head on over and follow me for details!! Good luck!!

Friday Five

a1e34a3bef56690131a668b320589cba

Couldn’t be more excited for Friday this week!! #1 I worked last weekend & it’s been a loooongg {but also super awesome} week & #2 When Monday comes I’ll be headed to NYC!! Woohoo!! I hope all of y’all are enjoying your Friday as much as I am! Have a great weekend!! Now, onto the Friday Five!! (that was a lot of exclamation marks, wasn’t it?)

1. The New Android Commercial– Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m an iPhone girl all the way. But, if there’s anything that could get me to make the switch, it’s this commercial right here! My heart literally melts every time I see it! If this doesn’t brighten your day, then I don’t know what could.

2. Target Home SaleToday & tomorrow get 20% off rugs & free shipping. Plus, spend $75 or more on your home purchase & save 15%. Thennnn if you’re a Target Red Card holder (like the addict I am) you’ll save an additional 5%. This is PERFECT for me as I’ve been working on some major home upgrades!! I’ve been eying this rug for quite some time, so making my move!!

3. Currently Craving– Am I the only one who didn’t know that there was a Jeffrey Campbell for Free People collection?! Where have I been?! There are some fab styles in the whole collection, but my favorite is the Hierro Heel. They’re a super on trend style and don’t break the bank!! My only problem is, what color to buy?! I originally wanted the grey, but now they’ve got this fabulous light blue color that I’m kind of dying over! Decisions, decisions…

4. Pioneer Woman Breakfast Quesadillas– Okay, so I know I gave y’all a recipe last Friday {anyone try it by the way?} but when I saw this breakfast quesadilla from Pioneer Woman, I couldn’t resist sharing! First of all, Lee Drummond (The Pioneer Woman) is God- at least of the kitchen! She’s the only woman that I would not only allow, but praise my husband for cheating on me with. And then, I would hope she would move in so a Sister Wives type scenario could happen and she could be like the “cook wife.” Basically, everything I make of hers is amazing and I haven’t tried these amazing looking quesadillas, but I’m sure they’ll be no different. If they turn out as pretty as they are tasty, I’ll be sure to Insta a pic this Sunday!!

5. Bits of Lace– I’ve got a super exciting Valentine’s Day giveaway coming up for y’all tomorrow on Instagram!! Be sure to follow me at @southernmeetschic to get all the deets on how you can win something for you and maybeeee even your man, from Bits of Lace. Also, if you’re looking for something sexy to wear next weekend, be sure to check them out!! They’ve got some seriously HOT stuff!!

Friday Five

tumblr_n6icoqj6pc1rhneybo1_500

1. Chloé Susanna Bootie Look-a-like– Have you been craving the celeb favorite, Chloé Susanna bootie, like I have, but don’t want to pay the crazy price?! Well, on a recent King St. shopping trip (read: pulling for photo shoots while making the occasional purchase for myself) I walked into Aldo and found her cousin- the Bugiano! For literally a teeny fraction of the price of the designer version, you can get the look for less. Plus, they’re on sale an additional half off right now! This means you can totally get the funky red pair too!

2. My Fitness Pal– Before this week I never would have written about this. A. Because I wasn’t into healthy anything (we’ll see how long this realistically lasts) and B. I assumed everyone already knew about this handy little app! But, throughout the week I’ve mentioned it to several people and they had no clue what I was talking about, so I decided I must share it with y’all too! It’s a super easy to use fitness ap (duh) that helps you log your food and counts your calories and nutritional value. Also, if you’ve got the iPhone 6 it will count how many steps you take a day and how many calories that has burned. It’s really nifty and a great way to help you stay accountable for what you’re putting in your body everyday! Oh, and it’s FREE!

3. Tavi Gevinson– This Refinery 29 article about this cool girl. I’m not sure how I’ve never seen her before, but I kind of want to be her. Okay, I do want to be her, or at least have her closet!! (insert wide eyed emoji)

4. My Favorite Football Recipe– Since the Super Bowl is coming up this Sunday, I figured it would only be appropriate to share with y’all my favorite game day recipe- bacon wrapped little smokies. Don’t listen to the comments on the recipe page saying they’re time consuming, just enlist a helper to assist in doing the bacon wrapping and your delicious snack will be ready in no time! I make these for tailgating during college football season and they’re often the first to go and my most requested! They’re by no means healthy though, so maybe wait to download My Fitness Pal til Monday!

5. Vacation Envy– Because, in the middle of winter, who doesn’t want to lust after warm weather and fruity cocktails? What better way to do so than checking out the resort Julia Engel of Gal Meets Glam, stayed in on her most recent trip to Antigua. This was her vacation from her vacation in St. Lucia. I mean seriously, the girl is everywhere! Instead of being jealous (like me), just grab a mai tai and flip through her Insta for a little Caribbean Friday pick me up!

Friday Five

friday-2-300x300

1. Illesteva– I discovered this sunglasses line via good ole Instagram, of course! I’m literally DYING to get a pair, specifically this pair. I just love the rounded shape (hopefully it looks good on my rounded face) and the combo of the tortoise with mirrored lenses. Usually you see mirrored lenses with metal frames and I love how this Italian made brand switched things up. I’m convinced my life will instantly approve upon wearing these sunnies. However, I’m not exactly sure how I would tell people who makes them because I don’t know if it’s pronounced in a fancy Italian accent or they’re just the Illest sunglasses Eva. I’m gonna go with Illest Eva!!

2. The Daily’s Juice– My life changed this week when I was introduced to the fresh made juice at The Daily! Between all of the gorgeous Insta pics and the fact that it’s owned by the same peeps as Butcher and Bee (my favorite), I knew I would love it here. But, I had no clue about their juice! I’m definitely not a typical “juice” girl either, aka I’m not a healthy eater. This combo of orange, pineapple, honey and lavender (pretty sure there was some cayenne and other goodness in there too) has won me over!! If you’re ever in Charleston, you MUST visit The Daily and Butcher and Bee!! The kale slaw is also a winner…dare I say these two are turning me healthy?! Okay okay, I won’t get too carried away!!

3. #Zeddlena– I might be a total loser for actually caring about this, but I’m not ashamed about it!! First off, anyone who knows me knows I’m a HUGE Selena fan. She’s basically perf (minus her whole Justin Bieber situation) and I want to be besties with her and TSwift, and Karlie and Cara and Kendall and Lena. I mean, come on, if you’re a female in your 20’s and don’t want to be in that circle of friends, you’re just lying! Anyways, I’m thrilled for her to finally have another guy in her life other than that mega loser, Justin. Also, my husband is a huge EDM fan so we’ve seen Zedd several times and he’s pretty awesome! I’m officially giving my stamp of approval on this relationship (because they were totally waiting for it) and duh, Selena you should definitely go to the Grammy’s with Zedd! End preteen rant!!

4. Sam Smith Radio on Pandora– Do I really need to elaborate on this?! He has the voice of an ANGEL!! I’m literally addicted to listening to his station on Pandora. It started with Sam Smith then Ed Sheeran and then John Legend…I mean, what more could a girl want?!

5. Shop My Closet– Did you know that I’ve now got an Instagram shop my closet page?! I’ve been doing some major cleaning out and purging all of the things that I simply just don’t wear that often. Most of the items sold that are listed now, but I’ll be adding more this evening so follow and keep an eye out!! Everything is in excellent condition, if not brand new with tags (totally guilty). It’s @shopmycloset_smc so don’t forget to follow for some fab finds at great prices!!

HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!!! xoxo

The Friday Five

As promised, I will now be doing a weekly blog series every Friday afternoon. You guessed it, at 5:00! I’m going to be sharing with y’all the top five pieces of information that I feel you need to know. The topics will range from new designers and sales to recipes and funny YouTube videos. Basically, it’s what i’m into that week! They will typically be pretty short and sweet posts that are easy for y’all to quickly browse. Because, let’s face it, we all know I can ramble and keep you reading for a while! Anywhoo, I hope you enjoy this new series and as always, feel free to tell me what you think! Oh, and of course it will always be accompanied by a #basic TGIF image!

**Disclaimer: OBVIOUSLY for whatever reason, my post scheduling button failed me and it didn’t post at 5:00 but at 12:00. So, don’t think i’m just lying up above!! For the future, Friday Five will be at 5:00.

9026c9e76677a9aa444941e399f5ef98

1. Tibi Sale 70% off plus extra 15% off- need I say more? And no, it’s not just weird stuff that didn’t sell or size 00 that only toddlers can fit. I would give you my top pick, but that’s basically everything on their sale page. You just can’t go wrong.

2. Uptown Funk Been on major repeat; i’m beyond obsessed!! I will spare y’all the video of me dancing and singing, and instead give you the one that also involves Ellen- you’re welcome.

3. Zinke Swimwear I’m always excited to discover a new swimwear line, and with Zinke’s adorable high waisted and one piece options, this one might be my new favorite! They’ve also got some really great resort wear, like this matching set that will definitely be making it’s way into my closet!

4. Blakely Made Art I’m on a huge art kick lately! Make it a local, Charleston girl and i’m in heaven! Blakely Little paints coastal scenes with fresh, bright colors that is sure to add some happiness to your walls {and life}. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I would have to go with this beautiful piece of the Ashley River. Takes me back to summer boat days- where are y’all by the way?! Oh and guess what! I’m sitting down to interview Blakely on Monday, so this is definitely not the last you’ll hear of her!

5. The Grand Budapest Hotel You may have heard of this beautiful film from the recent Oscar nominations. It leads the race with 9 nominations, including the coveted Best Picture. When my girlfriend and I watched it last week, we had no idea that it was going to be the talk of the town! It’s a really fun movie, but the highlight is the cinematography and set design. Literally, Instagram movie. You could pause it at any point and it would be an impeccable Instagram pic. Just a beautiful movie!

2015

DSC_0930

Yes, my first post back after the New Year is totally a cheesy beach shoot accompanied by my equally cheesy {and extremely late} list of resolutions. But, don’t stop following just yet! There are some really exciting things coming to Southern Meets Chic in the next few weeks and I would love for you to stick around to see them! I could bore you with excuses of why I haven’t been blogging, like the crazy holidays, a week of houseguests, working on future projects, but instead I would rather tell you about what I’m planning for the coming year. (see what I did there)

DSC_0913DSC_0879DSC_0906

But, before I share my goals for 2015, let me tell you about this super cozy outfit I’m wearing. I’ve been on a major Old Navy kick lately and it probably has something to do with their classic styles and ridiculously good clearance sales! This sweater was yet again another Old Navy steal and is perfect for winter days spent on the beach reminiscing on the past and looking forward to the future. (JOKING, sort of) Not only is it great to wear on a casual day out, but also it pairs perfectly with leggings and fuzzy socks for a cold night in watching Netflix. Y’all saw these jeans in my last post, but they have definitely been on repeat ever since I got them. I always love when local stores, like Styledwell, start carrying my favorite name brand denim designers! These new booties, which I wear like every day, were a product of my January 2015 winter sale-shopping spree. I mean, y’all, EVERYTHING is on sale right now!! I’ve been in heaven (although my bank account might be in hell). Luckily, these babies did not even come close to killing my budget and I will definitely be getting my money’s worth out of them. They came from one of my absolutely favorite stores in Charleston, II Brunettes. It’s one of those places that you walk in and literally want everythinggg. AKA: danger zone, but their winter sale has been killer, so i’ve loved taking full advantage of that.

DSC_0954

Okay, so onto my goals for 2015! I’ll spare y’all from having to hear about my cliché plans to eat healthier, workout more and shop less. Although, I would love to work on all of the above (except maybe the shopping, let’s get real).

  1. Blog more consistently- I know we already chatted about this a little bit at the beginning, but it’s definitely my biggest struggle with blogging. I go through these phases of blog hiatus’ because I don’t plan my posts out enough and all of my other life obligations wind up taking precedence. For 2015 my plan is to be ahead of the time and know exactly what I’m going to post and when at least two weeks ahead of time. Additionally, I’m starting a new weekly blog series tomorrow!! It’s called The Friday Five and will keep y’all up to date with what I’m loving and interested in on a weekly basis. I’m super excited to share with y’all!
  2. Create a more inspirational work space- I’m totally guilty of being that girl who sits on her couch with her laptop all the time. While I’ve actually got a great area for my office, the decor needs some major work. For example, my desk is currently a folding table. This.has.got.to.change! I’ve got some pretty great ideas and will {of course} share the before and after with y’all! Which brings me to my next goal…
  3. Add more lifestyle posts to SMC- While I LOVE fashion and that’s definitely what I want my blog’s focus to remain, I am also really into cooking, local restaurants, art and SO much more! I want to share ALL of these wonderful things with y’all!
  4. Hone my photography skills- Like most of the above goals, I’ve already started working on this one as well. This past weekend, the hubby and I went to a full day photography class! It was a ton of information and I’m certainly not going to be a professional photographer anytime soon, (or ever) but along with more lifestyle posts comes more photography. Plus, I’ve always really enjoyed taking pictures, so I’m excited to finally be learning how to take that to the next level.
  5. Actually make time to read all of the books & magazines I buy- Pretty self explanatory. But seriously, I LOVE to read!! I just never make the time to do it. So, this year is the year of carrying a book with me everywhere I go. You never know when you’ll get a few minutes to read a few pages! (hint: instead of aimlessly scrolling Twitter or Insta)

I just want to thank everyone who follows SMC and I cannot wait to continue sharing my journey with y’all in the year 2015!! I see how far I have come since I started this venture and cannot wait to see where another year will take me! xo

Oh and big thanks to one of my high school besties for taking these pics while she was visiting me!! She’s kind of the bomb.com!!
