Black Bootie Dilemma 2014

I know, I know “black bootie dilemma” is a bit dramatic, but if you’ve been on the market for a pair, then you feel my pain! First of all, I’m a little picky when it comes to black and especially black leather. There’s just always been something about it that screams “BIKER CHICK” and as much as I love Sons of Anarchy, (so sad about tomorrow night) I don’t particularly want to dress like a cast member. Then, there’s the fact that every time I fall in love with a pair, the price tag quickly crushes all of my dreams. So, assuming that I’m not the only girl on the face of the earth having these issues, I thought a little Real vs. Steal black bootie edition would be the perfect way to kick off the week! (see what I did there)

The Everyday Suede Bootie:

I’m pretty sure that this is THE ONE for me! This style can go with everything from jeans and a sweater to tights and a nice dress. The mid-height heel keeps them comfortable, but still tall enough to give your legs a little Kendall Jenner effect. BONUS: they’re suede, so that rules out any biker babe confusion.

Rag & Bone Newbury / Sole Society Livvy

The Flat Bootie:

This minimalist chic style is for the girl who wants the look, but without the bother of a heel. These are so on-trend when paired with black leather skinnies or rolled up dark denim. Also, try replacing your classic ballet flats with these to take any outfit up a notch!

Lanvin Chelsea / Aldo Alieng

The Hot Heeled Bootie:

The sky high leather bootie is the best choice for any party girl! These are the ideal booties to dress up and wear out. The thin heel and pointed toe make this a dressier option and while not as practical as the first two, will definitely make you stand out in a crowd. This is a perfect replacement for black pumps in freezing temps.

unnamedThe time has come for me to tell y’all the big surprise I’ve been hinting at all week! You may have noticed that every look on SMC this week was head to toe Gwynn’s. If you’re not familiar, Gwynn’s is the only locally owned luxury department store in the Charleston area. They carry everything from home decor and cosmetics to menswear and of course, women’s fashion. They are always my first stop for designers such as Tory Burch, Kate Spade, Jimmy Choo and J. Brand. Starting tomorrow, every single piece that you saw on the blog this week is on sale! It doesn’t stop there though, because actually the ENTIRE STORE is on sale!! No restrictions, no limits, everything is anywhere from 10% to 70% off, even the big brands that hardly ever go on sale! Even better, the sale opens to the public on Sunday, but special VIP’s (read: you guys!) will get to shop the sale starting tomorrow!! That’s one day early to beat the crowd and get that item you’ve been swooning over! Don’t live in the Charleston area? No worries! Just give Gwynn’s a call and they will assist you with your purchase, plus give you free shipping!! After you’ve finished shopping for yourself, this is the perfect chance to knock some people off your holiday gift list. You really can find something for everyone on your list here. Just a little hint (and sneak peek into my gift guide coming in December): Brackish bow ties for the boys (particularly the Clemson/Carolina colors), Nest candle for your grandmother, Hunter boot liners for your little sis and Laura Mercier body scrub for Mom!! Plus, they offer beautiful complimentary gift wrapping, so you leave with a present that can go straight under the tree!

Here’s a little recap of this week’s looks from Gwynn’s that you can now find up to 70% off!!

Holiday Affair

Okay, I feel better now, but seriously I’m obsessed!! Want to know what else I’m obsessed with? The holidays, of course! Now, I’m not one of those that rushes through Thanksgiving just to get to Christmas. I like to savor each holiday as they come. But, while it may be too early for me to start decorating, it’s never too soon to start planning my holiday party attire! Those invitations will start coming sooner rather than later and you don’t want to be rushing around the day of (in Christmas shopping craziness) looking for something to wear. If they were to have “holiday cocktail dress” in the dictionary, this emerald beauty would be the definition. It’s classy, sassy and sexy all in one dress! Oh, and it’s so much fun to wear (if you can’t tell). This black fur jacket goes beautifully over it for the chilly weather and you could even add black tights if it’s really cold (aka not in Charleston). Anything embellished just screams festive, so these jeweled kitten heels were the perfect choice. I accessorized with these beautiful black and gold statement earrings that really keep the look classy. Then, to pull out the gold and jazz things up I carried this amazing clutch! It’s flashy, without being tacky. Head to toe this is a flawless look for any holiday party you have to attend. Whether it’s work, friends or family you’ll stand out but still stay appropriate! LOVE LOVE LOVE- okay, seriously i’m finished gloating over this look now!

Don’t forget I’ve got exciting news for y’all coming tomorrow evening!! Stay tuned to SMC tomorrow at 6:00 for the big reveal!!

City Sleek

I slowly see it seeping into my wardrobe and a lot of my favorite tops to throw on and feel myself in, are black. There’s just something so chic about a full dark outfit and this one does not disappoint. This velvet navy and black sweater is to die for!! The mix of colors and textures translate beautifully making this a very versatile piece. You can easily make it super fancy with a fun skirt for a night out or dress it down with boyfriend jeans and sneakers. I went somewhere right in the middle, pairing it with equally sleek leather leggings. Throw on a pair of classic black pumps and you’ve got the city girl look down! But, we wouldn’t want a city girl to look boring now would we? That’s why I had to add this fun statement necklace. This is THE perfect statement necklace to have in your wardrobe! With the combination of colors, you can literally wear this necklace with anything. Bonus: it’s got a magnetic clip in the back. No more frustration over not being able to get your necklace hooked! For a beautiful contrast of color, I wore this with a structured cranberry handbag. I am kind of obsessed with navy and cranberry colors together for fall and these are the perfect shades to compliment each other. Throw on a dark lip and pulled back hair and you’ve got a chic look that can easily take you from the office to date night!

Rainy Day Wear

So far, so good with the weather today (knock on wood) but the past couple of days have been nasty ones here in Charleston! It’s not looking too good for the rest of the week either. But, a rainy day is not a good excuse for a lazy day look OR a good reason to ruin a nice pair of shoes or leather bag. So, what’s the compromise here? I’ve picked three outfits with umbrellas, weather-proof shoes, jackets and vegan leather purses {that won’t get ruined after a few water drops plus they’re animal friendly}. These looks are sure to keep you stylish AND dry in these crazy southern downpours!

Hopeless Romantic

Happy Valentine’s Day!! I feel like most people have a love/hate relationship with this holiday, completely dependent upon their current romantic relationship status. But, whether you have a hot date with your man or your girlfriends you should get all dolled up because you should love YOU! And what better way to show yourself some love than looking hot in a red dress and high heels? { bonus: if you are in a relationship, your man probably won’t hate it }This sassy little red number never fails to make me feel fabulous! I wore it with a pretty nude suede sling back peep toe pump. While this is a fairly simple shoe, it exudes femininity and is perfect for a girly Valentine’s look. I also have a pair of fierce leopard print Louboutins that I wear with this when I’m feeling wild and fearless! To top off the sweet Valentine’s look I wore a pink and orange statement necklace. It has a splash of red and really compliments the dress nicely. Considering it is February 14, chances are most Valentine’s will be pretty chilly. This is the perfect opportunity to wear your fur! (real or faux) Mine is a vintage mink stole that was my Great Grandmother’s. This is an even better reason to wear on this day particularly because it truly means so much to me and she is such a wonderful reminder of how to love. This outfit is perfect for a flirty, feminine look whether you have date night or girls night to look forward to. Either way, remember today and every day to LOVE YOURSELF!!

Love is All You Need

Pink has been my absolute favorite color since I was a little girl and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. And love is my absolute favorite thing, whether it be romantic, family, that brand new pair of red bottom shoes… So, I decided why not combine the two? This look is the perfect mid-week Valentine’s outfit. It is comfortable enough and cute enough to get you through the rest of your week with a smile on your face. This hot pink sweater was a no brainer, must buy for me. I wear it with everything from jeans and flats to yoga pants and tennis shoes. Don’t be scared of the neon if you’re not a bright colors kind of gal. Step out of your comfort zone and try this look! The hot pink really adds a fun, youthfulness to any ladies’ attire! Today I wore it with a pair of white skinny jeans. I know what most of you are thinking- “but I thought no white after Labor Day?!?!” YOU CAN WEAR WHITE ANYTIME OF YEAR, I repeat YOU CAN WEAR WHITE ANYTIME OF YEAR!!! It has actually been a super chic look this Winter, even wearing all white or two different shades of white. This has been a huge trend for celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Jessica Alba. I rolled my jean because I love a good rolled pant leg. Something so simple can really take your outfit to a more stylish place. The rolled pant can be worn with heels, sandals, wedges or flats. I paired it with another statement piece- gold glitter studded loafers- need I say more? These shoes are so fabulous and so much fun to wear! They take any outfit to a snazzier level, but because they’re a loafer also keep that classic look. To really top off my Valentine’s festivity I wore a pair of LOVE earrings. Although these can be worn anytime of the year (like the white, remember) they are especially perfect for this week. This outfit is pure fun and should be worn with a big smile on your face and in your heart! Spread the love this Valentine’s week!

Today begins the first day of a week full of Valentine’s attire posts! Why celebrate just one day when you can play dress up all week? This get up is something you can take from the office to date night. This is why I LOVE a good shift dress! They are so wearable and can be dressed up with heels or dressed down with flats. You could even wear this with tights and boots on a chilly day. Not to mention it is super comfortable! The animal print is another great, versatile aspect of this dress. Animal print=neutral and can be worn with basically any color! Given the festivities this week, I decided to add a fun pop of red this time with a pair of suede pointy toe heels. They really take what could of been a neutral, safe outfit with a pair of black heels to the next level. And this is not something you have to wait for Valentine’s Day to wear! This style can be worn anywhere from late Fall to early Spring. Now, I am somewhat addicted to lipstick, so I jump at any chance to wear a bright shade! Naturally, I took advantage of the red theme and added it on my lips too. To complete the look I added a medium sized pearl and gold bead necklace. I strongly feel that any shift style dress should ALWAYS be worn with a necklace! Otherwise, you just don’t look finished. The shift also provides a neckline that makes necklaces easy to wear, whether it be a chunky statement or a long pendant. This slightly chunky pearl necklace really polishes the look off nicely. This is a very simple outfit to put together, but gives you a classically chic look that will stand out from the rest.

Snow in the South

snow in the south 2

snow in the south 3

Here in Charleston there is rarely a need for a coat, much less full on snow gear. That is unless we’re in the middle of SnowMageddon 2014! Let’s face it, our southern “blizzard” (freezing rain and ice) is a joke to our northern friends.  But, here in South Carolina it’s a legitimate snow storm and we take full advantage of it!  I do love the excitement of one of these rare snow days, but my wardrobe majorly lacks in this area. However, all you need to look like a seasoned snow bunny are a few staples. A classic trench coat is something that can be taken from Fall to Spring, Charleston to Paris and will always be in style.  Pair it with a faux fur scarf to really take advantage of the winter look. And you can’t forget about keeping those toesies warm in a pair of fun, colorful wellies! Top it off with a statement lip and you’re ready to take on this crazy weather in style. Don’t get too comfortable though, it’s supposed to be 70 by Sunday!!
