NYC Recap Part 2

IMG_9798

I’m so excited to share with y’all the next two parts of our NYC adventure!! The next few days were full of more touristy stops, finally some NYFW shows and of course, lots of yummy food!! I’m going to pick up the morning where we left off- another day devoted fully to being a major tourist. This was the day that we did the most walking aka the most freezing!!

IMG_9803IMG_9794

We still had our double decker red bus passes, so we took advantage of that and rode around the city all day. Our first stop was the 9/11 Memorial to see the new Freedom Tower. Even having zero connection to the 9/11 tragedies, seeing where the awful attack happened is a pretty moving experience. Just reading the names of the people who lost their lives on that day- someone’s mother, child, brother, father- so many people were effected by it and being there just really makes you realize how blessed you are.

IMG_9820

NYC Tip: Hunter boots are a terrible idea unless you have ridiculously good boot warmers and socks. I was legit googling “frost bite” by the end of the day!!

IMG_9825 IMG_9826 IMG_9829

Dinner this night was quite the experience!! Todd was quite proud of himself for snagging a reservation at one of the hottest sushi bars in NYC, Sushi Nakazawa. However, this isn’t traditional sushi rolls. The famous Chef Nakazawa has specially crafted a tasting menu based on the style of Edomae sushi, which is basically just raw fish and vinegar rice. Read: no cream cheese or spicy mayo to get past the raw fish aspect. The only item available on the menu is the Chef’s 20 piece tasting menu, oh and the 7 course sake pairing!IMG_9830 IMG_9833

It’s definitely not something for the faint of heart {or stomach} because many of the pieces have quite the interesting flavors and textures- I have to admit there were a few I struggled to get down (see above pics to guess what). This wasn’t our best meal in NYC by any means and I can’t say I would go back, but Sushi Nakazawa was a once in a lifetime experience and a unique evening spent with my love!

IMG_9841 IMG_9842

The next day, we had no trouble with full on LOVING every bit of our meal at The Spotted Pig in West Village!! This was by far one of my favorite restaurants we went to on this trip and will definitely be returning every time I’m in the city! Warning: it’s a small little building that doesn’t take reservations, so plan to come early! We came right when they opened and had no problem getting a table, but by the time we left the line was around the corner.

IMG_9845 IMG_9847 IMG_9848

We started with the house made pickles and deviled eggs- aka a southern girl’s heaven!! And they certainly lived up to my southern taste buds as well. For the meal, we did our traditional order 2 entrees and split them both, because is there really any other way to do it when attempting to eat your way through one of the biggest cities in the world? The Spotted Pig is known for it’s burger served with roquefort and shoe string fries, so that was a given, and yes it was everything we expected and more. THEN, then there was THE SPECIAL!! Holy Cow I don’t think I’ve ever had such a delicious dish in my whole life. Yeah, you read that right, this was quite possibly the best dish I’ve ever eaten! What was it you might ask- cow’s tongue. Yep, cow’s tongue is the best food I’ve ever put on this tongue! Seriously though, the flavor was unreal!! Luckily, they served the meat on top of a crusty piece of bread that I could soak up all the juices with after I was finished. I really cannot even tell you how imperative it is that you go to The Spotted Pig if you’re in NYC!

IMG_9879

That night was spent walking through Macy’s (stressful) and then back to our hotel to get ready for the night. Our dinner that night was at Lavo, so that we could head over to the night club and see Afrojack afterwards. Dinner was surprisingly delicious for a restaurant/nightclub combo and the atmosphere was lively to say the least! Unfortunately, I couldn’t hang at the club because I had a 6 am wakeup the next morning, so I left the hubby there and went back to snuggle up and prepare for my first day of shows!!

IMG_0047

In comes my first day of NYFW shows!! On the schedule for today: Mongol and Nicole Miller!!

IMG_9893IMG_9935

Being my first NYFW show ever, Mongol could’ve sent the ugliest clothes down the runway and I still would have been in heaven!! But instead, it was a beautiful show with lots of jewel tones. I especially drooled over all of the beautiful colors in the dyed furs!! After 10 days in New York, this Charleston girl’s dying for a dyed fur (totally didn’t do that on purpose either).

IMG_9892

Although all the important stuff goes on around the runway, the media tent at NYFW is pretty killer too!! Hellooo E! Fashion Police set!! Unfortunately, I was never there at the same time as filming, but it was pretty cool to see the set up!

IMG_9931 IMG_9933 IMG_9934

Ran into Louise Roe and one of my favorite bloggers, Amber Fillerup of Barefoot Blonde. Ignore my borderline possessed face in this picture!! But, nobody does braids like this girl right here!! Plus, she’s got the sweets to go along with her style- she was actually an angel!!

IMG_9950 IMG_9947 IMG_9954

After the show that morning, I caught up with my {majorly hungover} hubby for a beautiful brunch at Sarabeth’s by Central Park. The food wasn’t anything really special, but it’s a New York staple and we just couldn’t miss it! Plus, it’s location right by Central Park is perfect for getting a little peek. Or, if it’s the time of year when you can actually walk around the city without freezing, you could take a nice post-brunch stroll. Needless to say, we didn’t go that route and instead went back to the hotel for a nice little between shows nap!

IMG_9975 IMG_0041 IMG_0045IMG_0006

My next show I attended was Nicole Miller, thanks to Belk!! I was ecstatic to be there and she didn’t let me down!! The show was beautiful and showed that my favorite cool weather color, hunter green, isn’t going anywhere for next season! I always love her designs and it was one of the few at NYFW, where I would actually wear everything she sent down the runway!

IMG_0049IMG_0055IMG_0053

Each night, we went to grab drinks at a cute bar before dinner. Tonight, was easily my favorite bar in NYC- Boom Boom Room. Located on the top of The Standard Hotel in The Meatpacking area, Boom Boom Room had wrap around views of the city and the classiest atmosphere and people watching. I mean, when you’re rubbing shoulders with Kelly Osbourne and Catt Sadler, you know you’re in the right place! Plus, their drinks were YUMMY!!

IMG_0061

Dinner that night was at a traditional New York steakhouse- Keen’s, and tradition sure didn’t disappoint!! Two young guys from London sat next to us and were there for the 2nd night in a row eating a portion of lamb chops each and splitting the porterhouse steak. Needless to say, I think my hubby was a little jealous that he wasn’t there with them instead of his filet eating wife! The steaks were perfectly cooked and seasoned, and we truly had no complaints about our meal. A true New York steak experience!!

IMG_0076

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY FROM NYC!!! Our morning was spent sleeping in, drinking espresso and yes, eating drug store Valentine’s candy. Basically, it was perfect!!

IMG_0079IMG_0077IMG_0081

After a morning of total laziness, we headed out for a delicious brunch at 44 & X. This was the perfect cute little place to top off a wonderful morning with each other! You can’t tell from the picture, but it was snowing the most beautiful snow that day and you could watch it right out the big restaurant windows- ah just absolutely perfect! Bonus: their bloodies were the most horseradishy bloodies I’ve ever tasted!! (Insert worshiping hands emoji)

IMG_0130 IMG_0115

Fortunately, I only had a presentation that day, so I was able to spend most of it relaxing with my Valentine!! But, the presentation I did have, Joseph Singh, was absolutely flawless and I was so glad that I went! I’m majorly coveting the grey and white long dresses!! Plus, I got to chat with some other fabulous Carolina fashion peeps at the event!!

IMG_0116

Thanks so much for reading my second part of our trip to NYC and my experience at my first NYFW!! I can’t wait to share with y’all the 3rd and look out for my only official “outfit post” from the trip tomorrow morning!! Happy Sunday Funday!!

Glamping

dandy-boutique-fall-lookbook-201

Back around Thanksgiving, I had the pleasure of getting to spend a day with some of my favorite ladies shooting for the Dandy Boutique Winter Look Book. Sarah, from 428 Main, with the help of Alden Haviland of Rutledge Social, put together this adorable campfire set. While we didn’t actually do any “glamping,” we did stuff our face with plenty of s’mores! Kate Capo, of Catherine Ann Photography, did her usual beautiful job capturing our afternoon. I thought this rainy weekend was the perfect day to share a cozy blogger campfire with y’all!

dandy-boutique-fall-lookbook-195dandy-boutique-fall-lookbook-178dandy-boutique-fall-lookbook-197dandy-boutique-fall-lookbook-198dandy-boutique-fall-lookbook-179

We all had a blast putting looks together for our glamorous “camping” adventure!! I went with something that I probably wouldn’t typically wear all together, but it made the perfect glamping attire! Take away the hat and gloves and you’ve got a great outfit for daytime in the city or even a casual night out.  With the hat and gloves, it’s a super funky warm outdoor look!

The hat and gloves are also super versatile on their own and make a great addition to your winter accessories. The fingerless glove trend has been huge and definitely comes in handy when your texting tip gloves start to fail you (which inevitably will happen). Plus, how can you resist that beading?! I love a little fancying up of gloves!! {or anything}

This is still one of my favorite shoots I’ve ever gotten to be a part of!! I just love all of the sweet ladies involved and we had such a blast that day!! I also loved getting to play and have fun with my style for the look book. The urban/boho chic look was just too much fun to wear!! You can still shop these looks and more on the Dandy Boutique website!

NYC Recap: Tourist Time

IMG_9621

My recent trip to New York City for NYFW was an absolute dream!! I had never been to the city (I know, I know totally un-American of me) and this was my first MBFW, so I was literally in heaven!! I’m so so excited to share with y’all the 10 days that I spent eating, exploring and eating my way through the city. This is just the first of many posts with a look into the first few days of our trip. We arrived on a Monday and Fashion Week didn’t start until Thursday, so we had lots of time to do allll of the tacky tourist attractions and boy did we! Clearly, from the picture above you can see that I won’t be doing any posts on how to pack lightly anytime soon. Hey, in my defense we were there for 10 days and had to pack lots of heavy items for the freezing temps!

IMG_9624

We stayed at The Archer Hotel on West 38th between 5th and 6th (if I had a dollar for every time I had to say that on the trip). I won’t complain too much, but it definitely wasn’t our favorite of hotels and my hubby has officially cut me off from picking in the future! While the hotel is brand new and super clean, the rooms were SO tiny (even for NYC) and the staff wasn’t exactly the friendliest or most accommodating. The location was a great central spot, but I fell in love with the meatpacking district so will probably stay more in that vicinity next time. I will say, The Archer Hotel has the best salted caramels that have ever graced the face of this earth- so that pretty much made up for everything else!

IMG_9631IMG_9633IMG_9628 IMG_9629 IMG_9630

Our first night, we had dinner at what was probably my favorite restaurant of the whole trip- ABC Kitchen. I knew I would love it after seeing pictures online and finding out that it was part restaurant, part home decor store, but the food also exceeded my expectations! Like many NYC restaurants, it didn’t look like much from the outside, but the inside was absolutely beautiful!! After a day of traveling (okay, maybe just a direct 2 hour flight from CHS>JFK, but still) I needed a cocktail, and the vodka thyme lemonade was absolutely perfect! I’m not a froo froo drinks kinda gal- aka give me vodka soda- but NYC has so many fabulous specialty cocktails that I just couldn’t resist. For dinner, we started with the tuna sashimi and house made sausage (weird combo, I know) and those were delish. But, the real highlight was the entree! We like to try a little of everything, so we shared the ricotta ravioli and the black bass. Now, I’m normally not a pasta or a fish fan, I mean I eat it but it never really wows me. Both of these dishes were unreal!! Everything they serve is made with fresh, organic ingredients and it shows! The flavor on the black bass was just out of this world- rich but kept the dish light at the same time. Clearly, I couldn’t even resist the ravioli long enough to take a picture! Seriously though, this was one of the best, if not the best restaurant we went to in New York. Look at the menu, I would literally eat everything on it!!

IMG_9642 IMG_9647 IMG_9649 IMG_9653

After dinner, Todd wanted to take me to see Times Square at night. Enter my “Welcome to New York, It’s been waiting for you. Welcome to New York, Welcome to New York” moment! Seeing Times Square at night for the first time is something that will stick with me forever. Now, I will say that area turned out to be my least favorite part of the city, but seeing it is a big check off my bucket list and it was a pretty magical night!

IMG_9669IMG_9664 IMG_9665 IMG_9667

You may have seen my post on Instagram- Is it really your first morning in NYC if you don’t start it with a bagel?! I think not!! My hubby had done his research and knew that Russ & Daughter’s was the spot to go for an authentic New York bagel. However, upon walking in the shop I was a little overwhelmed with all of the fish! Luckily, I worked past that initial anxiety and even ordered a bagel with lox!! Which, I’m not a huge smoked salmon fan, but they were so nice and helped me pick a milder flavored option. This bagel was out of control y’all!! My mouth is watering just writing about it!! We ordered an everything bagel with salmon, scallion cream cheese, tomato and onion- mmm mmm perfect! We split it because this was just an appetizer to the meal we were walking a couple of blocks to next (I told you we ate our way through the city!). But, if you want a full sit down dining experience they do have an actual cafe rather than the store that just provides counter service. I prefer the counter service shop because of it’s convenience to our next stop, Katz’s Deli!

IMG_9681IMG_9677IMG_9670 IMG_9673 IMG_9675

Having been around for over 100 years, Katz’s Deli is a bit of a New York tradition and definitely one they need to keep! We had originally planned to go to The Carnegie Deli, but after seeing Anthony Bourdain go to Katz’s, we quickly made a change of plans! You can either order at the counter or do table service and we chose table service to get away from the cold weather for a bit. I knew I was going to like this place as soon as they brought us out a plate of house made pickles- who knew New Yorkers liked their pickles so much?! Since we had just scarfed down the bagel, we shared their classic pastrami sandwich on rye and a side of potato latkes. As you can see above, they really just don’t give you enough meat on your sandwich! I could barely fit my mouth around the whole thing, but it was delicious!! Definitely somewhere that you must stop when in NYC and I love the convenience of hitting both Russ & Daughter’s and Katz’s in the same meal!

IMG_9685 IMG_9689

After that very hearty brunch, we needed to walk some food off so headed back to the Times Square area. I would not recommend this during the daytime, as there are people haggling you to buy stuff on every corner! Just keep walking and don’t make eye contact! But, we wanted to get tickets for one of the double decker buses- i’m telling you we were in serious tourist mode- and this was the best area for that. We wound up getting a 3 day pass with the Gray Line buses (the red ones). These were great for getting from place to place for a few days when wanting to site see, but I definitely wouldn’t rely on them for transportation your entire trip. Also, don’t count on the guides being very informative either! But, we enjoyed riding around and seeing everything in one easy swoop and having the flexibility to get off at any stop!

IMG_9692

See  ^ major tourist mode! Yes, those are Ugg boots in public and no, I do not even care. It was 20 degrees and my feet were warrrrm!! This puffy Patagonia jacket from Half Moon Outfitters was also pretty essential on casual days that we spent a lot of time outdoors. And not gonna lie, I’ve kinda grown to love it.

IMG_9702 IMG_9731IMG_9730IMG_9716IMG_9724 IMG_9719

What’s the number one tourist attraction you’ve got to see in NYC?! Top of the Empire State Building, of course!! This was another check off the ole bucket list and we so enjoyed getting to do this together!! The views are totally worth the wait in line and even the freezing wind at the top. Can you tell I’m cold in that last pic?! This was another one of those moments where you’re just in awe of where you are and how pretty freaking awesome life is! IMG_9727 IMG_9728

After freezing our booties off at the top of the Empire State Building, coffee was a must! Just so happened, there’s this awesome little food cart called Wafels & Dinges in NYC that serves BELGIAN WAFFLES with toppings AND COFFEE!!! Um, hello heaven! All I have to say is I’m glad there isn’t one of these in Charleston because I would be in trouble. I got mine nutella and strawberry topped and yes, it was just as amazing as it looks. DROOL!!

IMG_9737 IMG_9739

What does one do to top off a touristy day in New York City?! Why see a Broadway musical, of course!! Considering I’m a huge theater geek, I was going to be happy with anything on Broadway, so I let the hubs pick what we were seeing. He saw the word Vegas and that Tony Danza was in it and was sold on Honeymoon in Vegas. I had never seen the movie before, so didn’t know what to expect, but the show was hilarious and the cast very talented! Since it’s a newer show, I don’t think it was nearly as big of a production as say Chicago or Phantom, but definitely something to see with your man to keep both of you entertained! Plus, they serve wine in tumblers- right up my alley!!

IMG_9746 IMG_9749 IMG_9753 IMG_9756

Since the Lincoln Center was close by and I wanted to scope things out before the shows started, we had reservations to the Lincoln Ristorante that night. A traditional Italian menu with a New York twist, the food was perfect for lovers of charcuterie and red wine- aka my favorite meal! The ambiance was fairly quiet and laid back, with glass walls perfect for watching the people leaving the opera that night. The highlight of the meal was absolutely the buratta which was made with pomegranate and pistachios and I will forever be trying to recreate at home! After a long day of site seeing, sipping a glass of red wine and munching on some prosciutto was the perfect way to spend the rest of the evening! I couldn’t leave out a little bathroom mirror pic of what I wore that night (this is when we know I’ve had one too many glasses of wine). But, seriously I love this outfit, especially the Ted Baker coat that I scored for under $200 on sale!!

IMG_9758

When my hubby is on vacay, he doesn’t want the night to end so we headed up to our hotel’s rooftop bar- also another highlight of NYC, all the rooftop bars. I must say, while our hotel lacks in some areas, the view from the bar is not one of them! This pic isn’t great but we had the most perfect view of the Empire State Building! Talk about a way to end your second night in New York City! Like I said, this is just the first of many posts about our trip. I cannot wait to share with y’all all of the NYFW shows I attended, more yummy restaurants and of course, what I wore!! Stay tuned!!

Monday Blues Pinks

DSC_5331

Of course, I had to kick off the Valentine’s week with a festive outfit post!! This amazing pink coat was the perfect thing to do the trick! Now, I’m normally not so much of a pink kinda gal, especially this bubblegum pink, but when I spotted this beauty at Sam’s Closet Boutique, I knew I had to have it. It’s good to step outside of your comfort zone every once in a while, right? This coat has not disappointed!! I love how I can throw it on over any simple outfit and instantly it pulls the look together, which is exactly what I did. The pink is here to stay, and not just for this week!!

DSC_5335

I couldn’t just have a statement coat with a boring outfit underneath!! Incoming to these statement cheetah print booties!! I had been eyeing these bad boys since fall, but never made the move. Then, I found them on sale in an after Christmas sale at II Brunettes and finally scooped them up. They’re really the perfect bootie! A. because cheetah/leopard is practically a neutral and can be worn with just about any color B. the pointy toe and calf hair makes them easy to dress up and finally, C. because they’re a wedge making them super comfy!! I’ve even got plans to wear them with jean shorts and a red peasant top in the warmer months!

DSC_5315

My final statement piece of this look is my new blue Céline bag!! Thinking I’m crazy right about now for spending that much on a not so practical bag? I would normally NEVER do that, but I got this one at a STEAL from Saks off Fifth! It was already a quarter of the original price, then an additional 20% off and then I negotiated my way into another 15% so this was a legit deal!! It was just so so so beautiful, I couldn’t pass it up!! I’ve been kind of obsessed with that royal/cobalt blue color lately and love mixing it with other colors. Pink is a great one, but marsala/burgundy is also a great combo. Anyways, it was my one chance to buy a fun bag for a mere fraction of the normal price! I highly recommend going to check out your local outlet stores every once in a while. Often, you can negotiate a lower price on the pricier items that have been there a while!

DSC_5345

Also, can we talk about how great this last shot is?! I’m obsessed and it’s very rare that I’m obsessed with a picture with me in it! I can thank the awesome ladies behind Amore Photography, Shauntae and Laura, for these fab pics! Bloggers, whether local or not, if you’re in Charleston and need some blog pictures done, these girls run an awesome special!! It’s such a steal and they’re so much fun to work with!! I hope everyone has a wonderful Monday!! I’m headed out to NYC today for Fashion Week!! I could not be more ecstatic (minus those freezing temps). Be sure to follow me on social media to keep up with all of my New York adventures. And, don’t forget that I’m running an Insta giveaway, so be sure to enter! XO

Sassy Pants

DSC_0149DSC_0136DSC_0131DSC_0123DSC_0099DSC_0140Sassy has officially become my favorite word ever! I use it to describe everything from my husband (most used) to in this case, an article of clothing. These pants are the DEFINITION of sassy!! They make me feel confident and fashionable, which of course equate sassiness! They’re a ton of fun to wear and trust me, you’ll get lots of compliments on these babies. They’re another piece of fashion genius from the designer behind my fab top on Tuesday, Hilton Hollis. There is actually a matching vest that completes this look as a KILLER matching set, but I chose to style it a bit differently for y’all. The high waist on these pants are perfect for elongating your legs and just begs for a crop top to go with. This black boxy crop was the perfect compliment. I always like to keep things opposite- if my pants are tight, loose shirt and vice versa. As I’ve told y’all, I’m really into the minimalist look lately (so much chicer, right?) so I wore no jewelry and instead wanted to show off this FABULOUS bag from local designer of Garb Designs. Creator & designer, Montgomery Taylor, designs all of her bags from fabrics created from geological microscopic images- HOW cool is that?! I won’t spill too many of the beans on her though, because there’s an interview coming up soon! But, basically she’s a super cool chick with an amazing handbag collection! Keeping in tune with my simplicity phase (or is it a phase) I threw on my new fav heels from Bob Ellis Shoes. They’re SO simple, but SO fab at the same time!! This is such a fun, sassy look- just throw on a hot pink lip and you’re ready to hit the town running!! Well, maybe I won’t be running in these shoes!!

Don’t forget that Hilton Hollis himself will be at Maddison Row this evening from 4:30-7:00 and you can shop his designs there all weekend!! I hope to see all of you there!!

Back in Black

DSC_0041DSC_0071DSC_0049DSC_0063DSC_0085DSC_0073DSC_0093Obviously, my first outfit only post back after the New Year had to have a ridiculously cheesy title! On a real note though, creating a title for each post has got to be one of the biggest challenges. As I approach SMC’s 1 year birthday/blogiversary {but really, which is it?} I seriously worry I’ll start to run out of title ideas!! But, as goobery as the title might be, it’s very true to my current style situation. I’ve never really been a black kinda girl until the last few months and suddenly it’s all I ever want to buy! The key to keep yourself from wearing the same black Piko top over and over (you know who you are) is to find a few black pieces that are fashion forward, but still keep that chic, simple look. This top from Hilton Hollis, an up and coming designer out of New York City, does just that! It’s fun and sassy but still remains true to the comfort of wearing a simple black blouse. << PS- you can shop the Hilton Hollis line this weekend at Maddison Row in Charleston!! Join me as they kick off the trunk show Thursday evening with a cocktail party benefiting an awesome charity, One80 Place.-see below for more info >> I styled the top simply with dark denim and my equally sassy thigh high boots that always take any outfit to the next level. Of course, I couldn’t do without a pop of color! This beautiful turquoise tassel necklace from Peyton William was the perfect addition! I’m absolutely obsessed with the tassel trend and this necklace is certainly no exception. Side note: they also have some pretty adorable tiny tassel earrings that mayyy need to make their way to my jewelry box. Basically, if you haven’t stopped inside this local jewelry store on lower King, you’ve got to move that to the top of your list. And, if you aren’t local and haven’t visited Charleston, you need to start packing! I also love the pop of leopard with this bag that has become clutch in my wardrobe (okay, that was too much cheesiness for one post). But, there’s just something about the leopard and the turquoise that makes me really happy. I really just love this whole look!! It’s perfect for a winter night out (because you know you’re running out of those outfits) or even paired with black flats for a daytime look. ** also, sorry if ACDC is stuck in your head now, like it is mine.. #miserylovescompany

Yes, my first post back after the New Year is totally a cheesy beach shoot accompanied by my equally cheesy {and extremely late} list of resolutions. But, don’t stop following just yet! There are some really exciting things coming to Southern Meets Chic in the next few weeks and I would love for you to stick around to see them! I could bore you with excuses of why I haven’t been blogging, like the crazy holidays, a week of houseguests, working on future projects, but instead I would rather tell you about what I’m planning for the coming year. (see what I did there)

But, before I share my goals for 2015, let me tell you about this super cozy outfit I’m wearing. I’ve been on a major Old Navy kick lately and it probably has something to do with their classic styles and ridiculously good clearance sales! This sweater was yet again another Old Navy steal and is perfect for winter days spent on the beach reminiscing on the past and looking forward to the future. (JOKING, sort of) Not only is it great to wear on a casual day out, but also it pairs perfectly with leggings and fuzzy socks for a cold night in watching Netflix. Y’all saw these jeans in my last post, but they have definitely been on repeat ever since I got them. I always love when local stores, like Styledwell, start carrying my favorite name brand denim designers! These new booties, which I wear like every day, were a product of my January 2015 winter sale-shopping spree. I mean, y’all, EVERYTHING is on sale right now!! I’ve been in heaven (although my bank account might be in hell). Luckily, these babies did not even come close to killing my budget and I will definitely be getting my money’s worth out of them. They came from one of my absolutely favorite stores in Charleston, II Brunettes. It’s one of those places that you walk in and literally want everythinggg. AKA: danger zone, but their winter sale has been killer, so i’ve loved taking full advantage of that.

Okay, so onto my goals for 2015! I’ll spare y’all from having to hear about my cliché plans to eat healthier, workout more and shop less. Although, I would love to work on all of the above (except maybe the shopping, let’s get real).

  1. Blog more consistently- I know we already chatted about this a little bit at the beginning, but it’s definitely my biggest struggle with blogging. I go through these phases of blog hiatus’ because I don’t plan my posts out enough and all of my other life obligations wind up taking precedence. For 2015 my plan is to be ahead of the time and know exactly what I’m going to post and when at least two weeks ahead of time. Additionally, I’m starting a new weekly blog series tomorrow!! It’s called The Friday Five and will keep y’all up to date with what I’m loving and interested in on a weekly basis. I’m super excited to share with y’all!
  2. Create a more inspirational work space- I’m totally guilty of being that girl who sits on her couch with her laptop all the time. While I’ve actually got a great area for my office, the decor needs some major work. For example, my desk is currently a folding table. This.has.got.to.change! I’ve got some pretty great ideas and will {of course} share the before and after with y’all! Which brings me to my next goal…
  3. Add more lifestyle posts to SMC- While I LOVE fashion and that’s definitely what I want my blog’s focus to remain, I am also really into cooking, local restaurants, art and SO much more! I want to share ALL of these wonderful things with y’all!
  4. Hone my photography skills- Like most of the above goals, I’ve already started working on this one as well. This past weekend, the hubby and I went to a full day photography class! It was a ton of information and I’m certainly not going to be a professional photographer anytime soon, (or ever) but along with more lifestyle posts comes more photography. Plus, I’ve always really enjoyed taking pictures, so I’m excited to finally be learning how to take that to the next level.
  5. Actually make time to read all of the books & magazines I buy- Pretty self explanatory. But seriously, I LOVE to read!! I just never make the time to do it. So, this year is the year of carrying a book with me everywhere I go. You never know when you’ll get a few minutes to read a few pages! (hint: instead of aimlessly scrolling Twitter or Insta)

I just want to thank everyone who follows SMC and I cannot wait to continue sharing my journey with y’all in the year 2015!! I see how far I have come since I started this venture and cannot wait to see where another year will take me! xo

Oh and big thanks to one of my high school besties for taking these pics while she was visiting me!! She’s kind of the bomb.com!!

DSC_0775DSC_0749Today’s post started out as a normal quick shoot of an outfit I threw on and happened to love so much I wanted to share it. But, when I realized how coordinated with me the hubby was (I swear I don’t pick out his outfits) I knew I had to get him in front of the camera! Don’t tell him I told you, but he didn’t hate it! You can see Mr. Model a little bit further down, but first let me tell you about this adorable, casual look that is quickly becoming my new favorite style. Also, please ignore the messy topknot. I never claimed to be a beauty blogger!
DSC_0681DSC_0687I am on a layering kick lately! I just love how adding a white button down under a sweater instantly gives you a polished look. Typically, I would also add a fun statement necklace but I wanted to keep things simple. Y’all know I am a believer that less is always more, but lately my entire style is really leaning towards that minimalist chic look-think French girl meets Taylor Swift. You can totally layer a basic white button down under tops and sweatshirts too. It’s a great way to dress up an otherwise casual shirt! If you don’t have a white button down in your closet, now is the time to change that. The one I’m wearing is half off in the link below and trust me, you will get your money’s worth!DSC_0698DSC_0693DSC_0702Since the rest of the look is so refined, I wanted to add a bit of contrast with the torn boyfriend jeans. I just bought these two weeks ago and I’m ashamed to admit how many times I’ve worn them! They just seem to make any outfit look that much more stylish and are perfect for dressing down a more formal top. Oxfords have also become a staple in my wardrobe. I’m kind of over ballet flats and these are a prime replacement that still keeps your look classic, but more fashion forward. I skipped the jewelry but put on my favorite pair of cat eye sunnies and my new black crossbody. This is a wonderful daytime outfit and can be made appropriate for the office by swapping the denim out for a pair of navy or black crop pencil pants. But, enough about me and my style, onto the star of this post!!

Now, what you’ve all been waiting for {insert drum roll} the hubby’s SMC debut!! Normally, Todd is behind the lens taking my photos for me, but the truth is he’s a pretty fashionable guy himself! Between his good taste in style and genuine interest in fashion, he stays looking put together. Every once in a while I’ll help him out with an outfit, but this one he did all on his own! Well, if you don’t count the fact that I was present for all of the purchases. And I swear we are not the couple that matches everywhere we go, this was an honest coincidence!

DSC_0787DSC_0799A thick flannel top is perfect for Winter days in Charleston, especially for the boys! If your guy is anything like mine, he hates to wear jackets and gets hot super easily. This shirt is thick enough to keep him warm, but also eliminates all of the bulk that brings the sweaty discomfort. It’s casual enough to wear during the day time, but also nice enough to for a laid back dinner or date night. Although, my favorite part about this top is the suede elbow patch detail! Something about an elbow patch on a guy just always gets me and it’s the perfect addition to an otherwise average top!DSC_0801 DSC_0802One of the many things that Todd is a collector of (sunglasses, workout clothes, tennis shoes, anything Clemson, nice button downs) is jeans. I swear, this man has more money in jeans than I do my entire wardrobe! I think he and I are both in agreement that our favorite brand on him is AG Jeans. They always fit him so well, have great washes and I love the little wrinkles that they often put in the back of the knee. Just like the elbow patch, it’s all in the details! DSC_0798 DSC_0796Most guys would easily screw up this great ensemble by wearing it with an ugly pair of shoes! Have you ever noticed that guys often have difficulty with shoes? Either they’re trying too hard or not trying enough! These grey high top sneakers are the perfect solution to that problem. I love these so much that I’m actually super jealous they don’t make them in women’s! They’re a great shoe to wear when you don’t want to wear something too dressy, but you also don’t want to wear a tennis shoe. Bonus: they’re currently half off- hello late Christmas present! This is probably my favorite shoe for Todd to wear, and he’s got some really nice options!DSC_0783I hope you enjoyed the special guest for my #ManCandyMonday post!! If you’re interested in seeing more men’s fashion on Southern Meets Chic, please let me know! Something tells me Todd wouldn’t be completely opposed to showing off his style more often!

My Favorite Basics + LaaLee Giveaway

DSC_0550Today I wanted to share with y’all some of my favorite basic pieces that are essentials in my winter wardrobe. I’ve also got a super exciting giveaway with a fabulous jewelry designer that will be starting today, with the winner being announced next Friday! But, more on that a little later. This outfit is basically (hehe couldn’t resist) made up of black and white pieces that are easy to mix and match with almost anything. The coat is a Calvin Klein piece that I’ve had for years and found at, get this, Costless Outlet for under $50. Despite it’s age, it’s very on trend this year with the oversized coat phenomenon. It’s the perfect simple wool coat that can be worn over practically any winter getup. Of course, I’ve got a similar option down in the links for y’all!DSC_0546DSC_0577DSC_0555The top may not be super wintery to those of you in places that actually get cold, but here in fickle weathered Charleston, tops like this are a must have. It’s a great choice to layer under a sweater or like I did here, throw a coat over. I love that it’s so simple and comfortable with the solid white tee-shirt style back, but looks put together with the silky fabric front. Also, something about those black and white stripes just exude elegance! A pair of black pants and a pair of leather leggings are both a wardrobe essentials these days, but why not combine them and have a simple leather stripe down the side of your black pants? It avoids the whole sweating in your leather leggings situation (you know you’ve been there) but still jazzes up the basic black pant. These are SO comfortable and very flattering, so they get my vote! DSC_0607DSC_0560DSC_0589Then there’s my newest spoil myself purchase, my YSL mini bag. I’m telling you, if you want to splurge and buy yourself a nice but practical bag, this is the way to go! I’m absolutely obsessed with this minimalist chic look. Of course, I couldn’t do an all black and white outfit without a little pop of color, so I threw on these fab red suede pumps. While they definitely stand out a bit more than the other pieces, I still consider these a winter basic because they go with so much! They’re great to throw on with anything black, white, leopard and I’m especially loving mixing red and pink or purple for the holidays. DSC_0624DSC_0628Y’all know I like to keep my jewelry simple, so a few dainty layered necklaces are always my go-to look. I love this “Mrs.” necklace that just screams “I’m so married” – if you don’t get that reference and haven’t watched the video you must! Then, there’s the bar necklace that really never leaves my neck. It can be layered with just about any other necklace whether it’s another simple gold piece, a long tassel style necklace or even a statement piece. It’s so simple, but so chic! DSC_0631Now, for what y’all have either a. have been waiting for or b. just scrolled down to the bottom to see (i’m totally onto you) – the giveaway info!! So, laalee is a beautiful jewelry line designed by the super sweet southern belle, Christy Mims, out of Lafayette, Louisiana. I originally came across her designs when I was searching for jewelry for my bridesmaids to wear in our May wedding. I was instantly drawn to her fashion forward, but antique inspired pieces, styled on beautiful vintage china. Her blush champagne teardrop earrings were exactly what I had been looking for to compliment my bridesmaid’s rosewater colored dresses. Christy was SO sweet and so easy to work with which was a huge bonus for me being a busy bride. I wound up getting my entire bridal party and family’s jewelry from laalee. There are so many colors and styles to choose from, she has something for every bride and wedding party. But, Christy couldn’t get rid of me after the wedding was over! Not only does she have the best selection of bridal party jewelry, but she also makes jewelry fit for everyday purposes. In comes that FAB bar necklace!! There’s a little bit of everything on her site from dainty necklaces and bangles to trendy druzy style jewelry, and YOU have the chance to win a $50 to her shop!! All you have to do is follow me (@southernmeetschic) and laalee (@laaleedesigns) on Instagram and comment “followed and entered” on any of the pictures posted in reference to the giveaway.
