CHSFW 2015: Spring Bridal Show Outfit

IMG_3206

This time last year I was busy preparing for my May 10th wedding, so I certainly didn’t mind taking a trip down memory lane and attending the Charleston Fashion Week Spring Bridal Show. Besides, anything that involves bloody marys, chicken and waffle bites and a bridal fashion show, I want to be involved in! Since I had been dressing up every night, and some days, that week (plus, I had to be presentable by 11 am on a Saturday), I kept things easy breezy with this Mara Hoffman number from Finicky Filly. The lavender color makes this dress soft and understated, but Mara’s signature fun prints keep the dress from being boring! I definitely dressed it up a bit more for this event, but will spend many summer days wearing this dress with flats over a swimsuit.

I carried my Céline since this was a daytime event, and let’s face it I was running late so needed to carry a pair of sandals so I could literally run from my car to the tents. Don’t worry, the flower wasn’t decoration for my bag like those flowers people have on the dash of their Volkswagen Bug’s, it came in the gift bag.

IMG_3184

After 4 days of having to style my hair to be around the same people, I was a little over the down curled look. Also, I was just over putting any effort into actually styling my hair at all. So, I pulled my hair into a low bun with a simple little twist secured by bobby pins. I was glad to have a rare “hair up” day because it allowed me to show off these beautiful one of a kind opal earrings courtesy of Theodosia. They were the perfect little bridal touch for the occasion and would make a touching day of gift from the groom, orrrr first anniversary present * hint hint * I also loved wearing this antique locket, also from Theodosia, for the day. It’s so unique and went so well with the colors in the Mara dress!

Feeling Floral

IMG_3455IMG_3376

I don’t think I’ve ever been so ready for spring weather!! Okay, so maybe I say that every year but after ten days in NYC and coming home to equally cold temps this girl is seriously ready for some sunshine!! And boy did we get it this week!! The temps were so high that the mosquitos were actually out- who thought I’d ever be excited to see those pesky things? Along with the warm temps and bugs, comes the change in wardrobe!! I was over the moon to pull out my pastels, florals and sandals for these beautiful spring days we’ve been having and just in time for some amazing spring fashion events! This look was perfect to kick off Charleston Fashion Week season at the Maddison Row and Bella Bridesmaid fashion show at Cannon Green, Wednesday evening.

IMG_3418IMG_3473IMG_3506

This dress is basically everything I want out of a spring go-to: flirty, fun, bright and FLORAL!! Floral is, of course, huge for spring, but this dress by JOA from StyleDwell freshens the recurring trend up with a graphic print. Add in the fact that it has pockets and retails for under $100 and I think you’ve got your number one Easter dress contender (plus, the cut is perfect for getting seconds at your Grandmother’s house on Easter Sunday). I also love that the dress ties in my number one color for spring, allowing me to wear my brand new shoes, light blue. This color is perfect in so many ways. It’s feminine without being girly and trendy without being tacky! I’ve been scooping up all the light blue in sight, so it was only natural that I had to order these badass kitten heels from Zara. I’m not normally a kitten heel kind of gal, but between the color and those adorable little studs, I figured I would give them a try! Plus, at $59 you really can’t say no to trying something new!

IMG_3398IMG_3393IMG_3529

I kept everything else pretty simple with my go-to quilted Kate Spade bag and my new favorite Gorjana earrings from Rocksbox!! UM I literally have not taken them off since I got them in my first Rocksbox!! They will definitely not be getting returned! Did y’all know that you can get your first month of Rocksbox FREE using the code southernmeetschicxoxo?! It’s a pretty awesome little deal and clearly, they send you some pretty fab goodies!

SWT: Tuscan Wedding at Boone Hall

boone-hall-wedding-249boone-hall-wedding-255

What better time to kick off my new Wedding Wednesday series than the week before Valentine’s Day?! I won’t be doing the series on a weekly basis, but when I’m feeling inspired I’ll be sharing everything from tips and tricks to real life weddings to real life fake weddings, like this one! A real life fake wedding, you ask? These images, brought to you from the always amazing Catherine Ann Photography, are from my first official experience working with Scarlet Plan and Design on the Scarlet Wedding Tour. The SWT took 3 buses of couples to 4 of the hottest wedding venues in Charleston- Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina, The Historic Rice Mill, Upstairs at Midtown and my personal favorite, Boone Hall Plantation. The talented planners set up a fake wedding in each spot, complete with a bride and groom! In this post, you’ll be seeing the Boone Hall Tuscan themed Wedding, which was created by owner of Scarlet Plan and Design, Sara Skinner.

Miss Taylor Girl, who you may know as one of my fab blogger friends, Holy City in Heels, was the perfect choice of bride for this venue! Her sweet and innocent appearance went so well with the look we were going for. Since this was an Italian themed wedding, Alden and I immediately knew this dress had to be lace! We wanted her look to have a vintage feel, but still feel fashion forward. In comes the illusion neckline! This has been a big trend in bridal for a few seasons now and I don’t see it going anywhere soon. It’s perfect for the bride who wants to stay classic and conservative, but not have a boring dress either. I’m a back kinda girl, so this dress really just does it for me with the sheer back and buttons- SWOON!

boone-hall-wedding-65boone-hall-wedding-233

Since it was January, although our fake wedding was supposed to be fall, this vintage fur stole was the most perfect addition to her look! This stole was my great grandmothers and one of the most dear things to me. Always ask your family members if you need something like this. It makes it that much more special to have a family heirloom involved in your big day. The color that Sara chose for her theme was {my favorite} marsala. I LOVE marsala for a fall wedding, what you can do with the flowers is just beautiful! Wildflower did not disappoint with this absolutely stunning bouquet and a floral headband that went perfectly with the bride’s look! I just love using a floral crown for a wedding and a headband is the perfect way to add a little flowers to the hair, but not let it read tooo boho.

boone-hall-wedding-70 boone-hall-wedding-68

Disclaimer: Taylor and our groom, Max, are totally not even a couple. In fact, they hadn’t even met until this day. But, they did a great job faking it, right?!

boone-hall-wedding-258boone-hall-wedding-246

I can’t let the bride get ALL of the attention!! Our groom, Max, looked quite dapper himself in a classic black tux from Charleston Tuxedo. Before I go into detail about his look, let me tell you a little bit about Max. He was the perfect candidate to play groom, not just because of his glorious man bun, but because he makes and sells his own olive oil! Does it get more Italian than that?! You can find him (and yes, his man bun) at the Charleston Farmer’s Market selling Holy Smoke Olive Oil, or order online for a taste! Again, we instantly knew what type of look we wanted Max to have for his “big day.” Italian, to me, says classic and traditional (trust me, i’m Italian, they don’t like change!) so what better to go with a beautiful lace gown than a classic black tux? Really, I don’t think there’s anything that looks more dapper on a man. Plus, it’s also a flattering look for any shape and size groomsmen in your lineup. Want to change things up a bit?! Throw on a white dinner jacket for the reception, or the whole event!

Sara and her team did an amazing job of setting up the very southern Boone Hall Plantation to look just like a scene out of Under the Tuscan Sun. The spread on the table of overflowing bouquets, gold votives and yes, vintage globes was absolutely impeccable. Each place setting had vintage china, gold flatware and (DYING) a baguette wrapped with rosemary and Holy Smoke Olive Oil! I mean, does it get any cuter than this?! All you need is a few bottles of red wine and a plate of meat and cheese to get this party started!

boone-hall-wedding-12 boone-hall-wedding-5boone-hall-wedding-9

Speaking of cheese!! The cake was one of the most innovative wedding cake ideas i’ve ever seen, a cheese cake. Nook, not a cheesecake, a cheese cake- cake made of cheese. Aka- what I dream about at night! This was not only a beautiful display but also would be a huge highlight of the day for any cheese lover like me!

If the promise of cheese and free booze wasn’t enough to get your man on board with this wedding, the cigar rolling and bourbon bar will definitely do the trick! Set up in a mini airstream, yes I totally just said mini airstream, this man lounge is like no other I’ve ever seen! The decor remains cohesive with the beauty of the Tuscan theme, but instantly becomes more masculine when you throw in leather, vintage suitcases and stuffed animals. Guests could go inside of the airstream to see live rolling from Cigar Row and sit outside in the lounge to enjoy their cigar. I hate to break it to ya gents, but this lounge is so fab the ladies might have to get involved also!

Scarlet Styles

maddison-row-charleston-55

Finally!! I can share my newest venture with y’all! I’m so excited to announce that I have joined the Scarlet Plan & Design team as a bridal stylist! Along with fellow stylist and friend, Alden deHart, we will be launching Scarlet Styles this Saturday at the Scarlet Wedding Tour here in Charleston.

maddison-row-charleston-22

To tell you a bit about Scarlet Plan & Design it is owned by head planner and creator, Sara Skinner. She’s not your traditional planner and enjoys thinking outside of the box to bring unique, quirky weddings to the table. But, don’t worry, we love the traditional southern weddings as well! Hellooo, Southern Meets Chic- that will definitely continue to translate into my bridal style.

maddison-row-charleston-52

Alden and I will be working closely with the brides to assist with all of their bridal styling needs, from day of to honeymoon packing, we do it all! We ensure that your entire wedding party has a cohesive look, with each other, as well as the overall style and design of your wedding. We will first meet with the wedding planner to go over theme and venue, then consult with the bride on likes/dislikes, measurements and a personal style quiz. After this, we will work creatively together to curate a personalized mood board and then the fun part, dress shopping!

maddison-row-charleston-9maddison-row-charleston-59

There are several different packages to choose from and a la carte options to help each bride customize our services to her specific needs. While we are working under Scarlet Plan & Design, if you have a planner from a different company, we are happy to work with you as well!! However, Scarlet clients do receive a nice discount.

After my May 2014 wedding (that I spent 2 years planning), I could not be more thrilled to be back in the bridal world! Not only do I look forward to creating more Pinterest wedding boards or having an excuse to buy wedding magazines, but I cannot wait to create beautiful memories for Charleston brides!

maddison-row-charleston-42-2maddison-row-charleston-41

A bit on this photo shoot- you know us ladies can’t do anything without pictures to document it! So, of course, we needed some bridal styling shots for the Scarlet Styles website! With the lovely Katie Capo of Catherine Ann Photography behind the camera, gorgeous Taylor girl (aka Holy City in Heels) as our bride and the beautiful setting of Maddison Row, this shoot turned out fabulous! I’m kinda obsessed with this Kardashian-esque outfit. That’s right, I admitted it, it’s totally Kardashianish- and I’m not mad about it.

My Favorite Basics + LaaLee Giveaway

DSC_0550Today I wanted to share with y’all some of my favorite basic pieces that are essentials in my winter wardrobe. I’ve also got a super exciting giveaway with a fabulous jewelry designer that will be starting today, with the winner being announced next Friday! But, more on that a little later. This outfit is basically (hehe couldn’t resist) made up of black and white pieces that are easy to mix and match with almost anything. The coat is a Calvin Klein piece that I’ve had for years and found at, get this, Costless Outlet for under $50. Despite it’s age, it’s very on trend this year with the oversized coat phenomenon. It’s the perfect simple wool coat that can be worn over practically any winter getup. Of course, I’ve got a similar option down in the links for y’all!DSC_0546DSC_0577DSC_0555The top may not be super wintery to those of you in places that actually get cold, but here in fickle weathered Charleston, tops like this are a must have. It’s a great choice to layer under a sweater or like I did here, throw a coat over. I love that it’s so simple and comfortable with the solid white tee-shirt style back, but looks put together with the silky fabric front. Also, something about those black and white stripes just exude elegance! A pair of black pants and a pair of leather leggings are both a wardrobe essentials these days, but why not combine them and have a simple leather stripe down the side of your black pants? It avoids the whole sweating in your leather leggings situation (you know you’ve been there) but still jazzes up the basic black pant. These are SO comfortable and very flattering, so they get my vote! DSC_0607DSC_0560DSC_0589Then there’s my newest spoil myself purchase, my YSL mini bag. I’m telling you, if you want to splurge and buy yourself a nice but practical bag, this is the way to go! I’m absolutely obsessed with this minimalist chic look. Of course, I couldn’t do an all black and white outfit without a little pop of color, so I threw on these fab red suede pumps. While they definitely stand out a bit more than the other pieces, I still consider these a winter basic because they go with so much! They’re great to throw on with anything black, white, leopard and I’m especially loving mixing red and pink or purple for the holidays. DSC_0624DSC_0628Y’all know I like to keep my jewelry simple, so a few dainty layered necklaces are always my go-to look. I love this “Mrs.” necklace that just screams “I’m so married” – if you don’t get that reference and haven’t watched the video you must! Then, there’s the bar necklace that really never leaves my neck. It can be layered with just about any other necklace whether it’s another simple gold piece, a long tassel style necklace or even a statement piece. It’s so simple, but so chic! DSC_0631Now, for what y’all have either a. have been waiting for or b. just scrolled down to the bottom to see (i’m totally onto you) – the giveaway info!! So, laalee is a beautiful jewelry line designed by the super sweet southern belle, Christy Mims, out of Lafayette, Louisiana. I originally came across her designs when I was searching for jewelry for my bridesmaids to wear in our May wedding. I was instantly drawn to her fashion forward, but antique inspired pieces, styled on beautiful vintage china. Her blush champagne teardrop earrings were exactly what I had been looking for to compliment my bridesmaid’s rosewater colored dresses. Christy was SO sweet and so easy to work with which was a huge bonus for me being a busy bride. I wound up getting my entire bridal party and family’s jewelry from laalee. There are so many colors and styles to choose from, she has something for every bride and wedding party. But, Christy couldn’t get rid of me after the wedding was over! Not only does she have the best selection of bridal party jewelry, but she also makes jewelry fit for everyday purposes. In comes that FAB bar necklace!! There’s a little bit of everything on her site from dainty necklaces and bangles to trendy druzy style jewelry, and YOU have the chance to win a $50 to her shop!! All you have to do is follow me (@southernmeetschic) and laalee (@laaleedesigns) on Instagram and comment “followed and entered” on any of the pictures posted in reference to the giveaway. This will run today through next Friday the 19th at noon and I will announce a winner at 5:00 on Friday afternoon. It doesn’t stop there though!! All of my SMC readers will shop for 15% off their entire purchase with the code 15OFF in the laalee shop!! Brides, this is the perfect time for you to check jewelry off your list!!

Fine & Dandy

042A7959Fine and Dandy Boutique that is!! I was so happy to collaborate with Dandy Boutique and the adorable Taylor from Holy City in Heels on this fun, playful shoot for Rutledge Social shot by Terrence from Charleston Street Style. Dandy has quickly become one of my favorite stops when shopping in downtown Charleston and has even given me a new little twist in my style. I like to tell owner, Holly McGetrick, that shopping in her store is like shopping in Taylor Swift’s closet. The new bob and bangs T-Swift, not old school, country spiral curls T-Swift. The charming store is full of vintage inspired duds that perfectly combine classic styles with modern influences, think Allie Hamilton from the Notebook meets Audrey Hepburn. I just love how feminine and put together all of her pieces make me feel! Holly and the overall style of Dandy Boutique has definitely inspired me to add a little more of a vintage 1950’s feel to my wardrobe lately.

042A7985 042A7991 042A7993Not only is Holly super stylish, but she’s also pretty darn crafty! She hand makes STUNNING floral crowns like these and does beautiful custom bridal hair pieces. Anyone who knows me, knows I LOVE any sort of hat or head piece and ESPECIALLY floral crowns! I think they are the perfect addition to any outfit for a special event, professional photos or even just because. This dress just complimented the floral crown so beautifully. The combination of the feminine lace and the fall cranberry color make this look flawless. To keep the outfit autumnal and somewhat casual, I wore a suede bootie. This dress could also easily transition to winter by instead wearing black tights and black booties, a big flashy statement necklace and a black fur shrug with a huge fancy topknot for a glamorous holiday party look!

042A8125042A8128042A8140042A8110I have a serious obsession with embellishments this year, so be prepared to see a lot of them especially during the holiday season! A little beading or bling is just so perfect to jazz up an otherwise basic piece of clothing. But, it also still keeps things simple and understated which I love! I’m definitely a “less is more” kinda gal! This icy gray/blue sweater is ideal for the coming winter months. You can dress it up with a skirt, like I did with this navy blue quilted skirt. Or, throw it on with a pair of jeans and boots for a chic comfy look! This is that sweater you’ll wear over and over again and is just a no brainer to throw on when you feel like you’ve got nothing to wear! (Read: all the time)
